Same, since it's all digital these days anyway the time of performance isn't that big a deal. but playing live whilst recording should be a given if it's advertised as live everywhere.

"live" is getting a whole new meaning then - a performance that was recorded on another day using prerecorded vocals/instrumentals that have additionally been edited prior to broadcast. Let's be honest, we'll never hear HP entirely live, it is what it is. but there's a difference between using some recorded elements and this. it should not be called "live" in this case. Worthy Farm is supposed to be a live performance too but I have my doubts now honestly.

Track 02 - Higher Power | Music of the Spheres
Exactly, what about EL? It's true that it got hardly any promo. The critics liked it nonetheless and in the recent interviews that I've seen interviewers kept asking about it as well. So there is still interest in and recognition for less trendy music like that. If EL had been promoted more it likely would have sold better too, but they made the decision not to go big with that one. Then there was also that recent Dell Technologies event, a very intimate set, which was not mentioned on Coldplay's social media at all. These more "quiet" or experimental albums and events are flying under the radar. They don't really fit their more "fun" and colourful branding anymore. like you said there is a trend with collabs and following trends and we can speculate about the exact reasons. Probably it's a mixture of what has been mentioned, having fun, staying relevant, critical acclaim, making money. They could still achieve all that by making different music if they wanted to though (examples are Billie Eilish or Bruno Mars). Someone mentioned how big a role influence by other people plays, I also have the impression that this is the case, e.g. Chris described Max as their "5th band member". They probably care a lot about what those people tell them and what they think about them. Max works a lot with Ariana btw so I could see that collab coming up.

Track 02 - Higher Power | Music of the Spheres
For a song where Max Martin was involved the lyrics are actually alright.? If you look up his methodology ("Melodic Math"), if this was applied to HP in some ways then it's not surprising that some people perceive it as sounding "generic". It's the most common criticism I've seen about the song. I believe it was heartfelt to begin with, but in the end result it got a bit lost.

Track 02 - Higher Power | Music of the Spheres
I suppose no matter what they release there'll always be people who love it and people who don't. Comments on here and on Youtube seem to be very mixed. I also preferred the live version. There's something beautiful about actually being able to hear all band members. I'm still not sure if I love the synths in the chorus. Chris's vocals were next level!! I'd be curious to know who exactly they consider to be their core fan base these days. regardless, they clearly wanted to go big with this song and land a hit, so working with Max Martin makes sense as does the 80s sound. I checked out Max's track record and saw many, many extremely popular songs but honestly not many that I'd say I love. Normally, I do enjoy a lot of mainstream songs as well as 80s music so maybe it's something about his style, it definitely is when I compare HP live vs the recorded version. It's hard to predict which songs will be successful and which ones won't. Bruno Mars for example just ignored all the trends and created something completely different and it took off.

Track 02 - Higher Power | Music of the Spheres
The launch was super exciting, I really enjoyed watching the interview with Thomas Pesquet. The song itself is nice, easy to listen to and very upbeat. Overall, I'd probably enjoy the song more if it had been mixed differently and without the choir. I find that in some parts of the song the arrangement is kind of drowning out Chris's vocals and the other instruments. It's like a beautiful picture that's been photoshopped a bit too much and has had too many stickers and text added on it. It'll be interesting to see how the song will sound when performed live and how the album will compare.

[2021-05-05] Chris Martin @ Dell Technologies World 2021
I agree, the vocals were amazing. And I also agree that the piano only songs were super good, but I'm a big fan of their acoustic performances generally. I've had One For My Baby stuck in my head since yesterday, so beautiful. ?

If that had anything to do with it, mybe they'll start collaborating with other companies with cosmic brand or product names now too? Android or Tesla for example? ?

Has anyone told lady gaga's fans yet that there's another artist using the space theme for their album?! ? Theoretically, they could perform together at the brit awards, who knows...

Will Coldplay ever Tour Again?
It was a big statement from Chris. The way their marketing is going the next tour should be a big one. Maybe they'll do things like introduce more recycling or using more sustainable materials in their production - baby steps basically. And their ocean clean up partnership could be one of the ways in which they intend to offset the environmental impact of their shows. It's not perfect but more than most bands do. For us, it could mean a ticket price increase or limiting ticket sales to locals, who knows. Maybe they've come up with some great ideas whilst jetting around the world on their private planes...?

Yeah, that's definitely a pattern, and it seems like a lot of long term fans prefer the more artsy albums. I wouldn't necessarily call it one for the label, one for the band. Everyday life got hardly any promo and still sold quite well. Plus i'm pretty sure the band wouldn't release an album they didn't fully believe in themselves. With them being one of the biggest acts around they hold the cards rather than the label, I'm pretty sure any other label would be quick to sign them even if they decided to abandon the mainstream stuff. So I assume the band actually enjoy being more mainstream nowadays, including the big stadium tours, tv shows like American idol etc. Of course the label wouldn't discourage it either. Personally, I love the 80s revival trend. I love some of coldplay's mainstream songs like something just like this, others like a sky full of stars not so much. On average, I also prefer their more artsy albums. With all the hype and promo that's been happening my expectations are definitely very high for the next album.

Do they usually release songs earlier for critics and radio stations, in preparation of the launch? If so, someone could've leaked the lyrics. On the German rollingstone website there's an article stating the record label suggested there'll be a tour in late 2021, around the same time when the album will be released, and another single inbetween higher power and the album.

I think popularity alone doesn't make a song a masterpiece. Most songs that are very popular have catchy melodies, and usually they readily evoke emotions in many people. Other factors like branding and personality can help too. I don't even think that came about with social media, and it's happening in other arts too. Being artsy alone won't qualify a song as a masterpiece either. I think ultimately most people care more about how a song makes them feel than the actual composition. A true masterpiece like bohemian rhapsody will have that emotional impact and be easily palatable, and additionally will be more innovative or technically advanced.

I nominate those symbols as internet rabbit hole of the week. Someone suggested that each song on the new album may have one symbol assigned to it. The music of the spheres theory explains how the same geometrical concepts apply to both musical and cosmic harmony. Based on that, geometry could indeed be used to express or represent music. On social media there are five symbols that have been featured more prominently than the others been so far: The 3 stars, spiral, infinity, triangle and the orbit symbol. I focused on those 5 symbols for now. What Iโve found is that while they all have different meanings, each of them can be related back to astronomy as well as (ancient/sacred) geometry. Something else that stood out to me was that, looking at their earlier meanings, these symbols have all been used in connection with religion, deity or other higher power. Higher Power is most commonly thought of as a religion or a deity. However, theoretically it could refer to just about anything. This is where spirituality comes into play - Believing in a power thatโs greater than ourselves can help us reach universal consciousness.

Do you mean on here or in general? Have they gotten many views/comments on YouTube? I haven't watched any of them to be honest, I don't usually watch music videos in general. I'm a bad fan I guess :P
