  1. Solid in production. Don't worry about standard formats and arrangements in pop creation. You are good at developing a build. My only suggestion would be more vocals, this track, September as well. Now on teleport, you just bring the vocals right away, which is good, almost imogen heapish with the harmony. I don't know if you have mp3 distribution yet (itunes/amazon), but if you are interested in getting that going, I'd invest in you for sure.
  2. I'm out on the road, but when I get in I will take a look. I've been waiting to put up a YT on this anyway.
  3. Nice cover, musically without question. As far as the vocals, I would be interested to hear you try the falsetto, because your full voice is damn near dead on Chris. In fact, that full voice, with a touch of reverb, and a little bit more confidence(don't hold back), it's pretty much the closest thing to CM I've heard on youtube.
  4. sounds like some storytelling type of lyrics, you might want to listen to bruce springsteen or billy joel for guidance, that's their gig. (more story than melody) - just my opinion
  5. He nailed it. Alot of us wish we could sound quite so melodic in our friends basement. :)
  6. nice song, easy on piano, to make it really easy, just drop the top note from the right hand (the E or Eb) at least until you are comfortable, and then add it back. Verse LH / RH combined (each RH combination is played 4 times each) E _/ E Ab B_ E Db / E Ab Db E Ab / E Ab B_ Eb Db / E Ab Db E Chorus LH / RH combined B_ / Eb Gb B_ Eb Db / E_ Ab Db E Ab / Eb Ab B_ Eb Db / E_ Ab Db E B_ / Eb Gb B_ Eb Db / E_ Ab Db E Ab / Eb Ab B_ Eb B_ / Eb Gb B_ Eb
  7. i agree with Ols here, and using his chords and bass you will be playing the thing properly. it's just a matter of wording, but i would just go ahead and call the 5th chord Cminor, only for someone to cover the song, and maybe play it a little differently than chris, like maybe myself :) i think the RH fingering is Bb Eb G C Eb Ab Bb Eb G Bb Eb F to Bb D F
  8. i appreciate everything you said here, but I would urge you, (as a previous "keep it more to myself" 16 year old), I am not suggesting you put up a youtube site or anything for that kind of "sharing". I am rather suggesting emailing me an mp3, at petermichaelw (at) ptd (dot) net for just an opinion. trust me when i say, now at 16 is time to do more learning, be it guitar, keyboard, theory, software, or whatever. pay the dues now. because then you can really express yourself. i was the same way with software, not wanting to learn the sequencer fully, "just enough to go now". and i kept my creativity to myself, not avoiding people with it, just not sharing it with anyone. oh to go back in time. you really want to be able to press record, and fluidly EXPRESS yourself onto the canvas. just my .02
  9. I will answer this question (i try to avoid reading music, and one of the benefits is not having to remember clefs, mixolydian scales and other such things) :) No really - look at the wikipedia on clef Anyway, it sounds like you are not separating the chord from the melody line. SUPPOSED TO BE DIFFERENT. would sound terrible otherwise. The melody should have a definite main note that is complimentary to the chord. But the creativity comes with how you get there. I will use the masters for an example. "parachutes" in a haze a stormy haze there are only 2 chords here, but a note for each syllable. the chords are B and Ab minor the "main" notes are B and Bb the "main" melody notes (that "match" the chords) are "in a haze" and "my haze" the rest of it is the creativity of the writing. Now sing it, or just imagine it, with no picking of the guitar, just strummed chords, and Chris singing "in a haze a" all with the one "main" note, and "stormy haze" all in the other "main" note. So what Chris did was added the C# at "stor" This is a simple example of (i think) what you are trying to accomplish to sound "rappy". Also what could work would be the same thing but at "stormy" he could have done "stor" with the same C# and then done "my" with Eb. At the end of the day there are 10,000 ways to do the same thing. And no I don't buy that Chris Martin, one of the greatest songwriters of our time, stole from Joe Satriani. (for the record)
  10. doubled post ?
  11. Better yet, why not, (and i know this may seem impossible to you - i would urge you to think otherwise), put up a file with what you have so far, so that some of us may give an educated opinion. As it is, I am kind of understanding you but would like to hear what you are talking about, and the solution could be quite simple. glad to help, as i know there are several others in here, let us hear...
  12. I am not following his video either....lol. But the way it sounds at the beginning of the video is correct. What do you want from me... a video? Or a different explanation? Glad to help, let me know.
  13. HAHA! got me. ok, no more late night postings for me.:inquisitive::shocked2::stunned: the reply post was sent from my car, as i'm thinking "what the hell is this guy talking about...." Ha! 3 hours sleep, get home... look down at the keyboard.... doah! Thanks for the correction. ok, no more posts via auto!:laugh3: It's youtube for me from now on.
  14. difficult to type out yes but i dont understand the 2nd part... Db=Cb?
  15. Ok, here's a link that works to a version I guess like you guys are talking about. he goes up an octave with both hands at parts, and uses his left index finger to play the fifth note for just about whatever chord he is playing(a commonly used rolling action CGC for example). he also does some additional improvisation, and i would imagine, he does it differently at every show, so once you get the chords, adding to it as your skill level allows should be the way to go. 16. Ok, Ill give it a whirl.... never tried this one, so typing as i listen (and tinker) first i'll say the video (the tutorial one) is ok, but he is missing the 4th chord. Key of Bb (Bb / Eb) as far as the rhythm goes, i find it works well to hit the- LH on the 1st beat RH on the 2nd beat then repeat the RH on the off beat between the 3rd & 4th beat and again repeat the RH on the off beat between the 4th & 1st beat of the next for new player- standard 4 count sounds like this 1.2.3.4.1.2.3.4 (say aloud) off beat as mentioned above sounds like this 1.2.3.and.4.and.1.2.3.and.4.and (say this aloud as well) , it should take the same duration to say both. the off beat is the "and". (this is my suggestion as the basic timing - obviously, over time you will add more LH hits and improvisations to make it sound fuller.) the main chords (and this may not be what's in the sheet music, but will sound correct) -are as follows (I will show these now in full and then just mention them by the note as they occur in the song) (LH is whatever the main note is (octaves if you can)- so below is mention of RH notes only) this sounds very good and your right hand stays put G G-Bb-D Eb G-Bb-Eb Bb F-Bb-D C G-C-Eb D F-A-C-D OK here goes Intro LH (Octave) C-Bb-C-D then (chords) Eb- G- C(special C chord with Bb instead of C in RH= G-Bb-Eb) LH (Octave) C-Bb-C-D then (chords) Eb - F (special, not mentioned above) LH F_____RH F-Bb-C-F to F-A-C-F verse G-Eb-Bb-D repeat 4x build up (i could feel it go down) Eb-Bb-F (F is F-A-C) repeat 3x drop (5 steps) LH G-F-Eb-D-C RH G chord - G chord with F instead of G - Eb - G - C hold the c chord 8 counts guitar solo same progression as verse repeat bridge (i wonder what it's all about) Eb-G-C-C repeat 3X Eb-F (with Bb as well as A if you can) (everything i do is wrong) same as above except repeat Eb to F transition once fade out Eb-G-C keep in mind, I am writing this out for someone who is wanting to play the piano as the main accompaniment to the vocals. this is not how chris plays the album version, as he is not carrying the bulk of the responsibility of the accompaniment, he is able to add frills and extra bits.

  19. THANKS FOR THE DAILY MOTION LINK [ame=http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7pugg_satriani-lawsuit-dismissed-judge-ha_music]Dailymotion - Satriani Lawsuit Dismissed! judge has common sense and 1 ear, a video from petermichaelw. peter, michael, new, jersey, musician@@AMEPARAM@@http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x7pugg@@AMEPARAM@@x7pugg[/ame]
  20. WOW! I have never seen this. Every related video that I could find was removed by EMI. Like 20 videos, and then I stopped checking. Never seen that. I know Satriani played in youtube live, so there has to be a relationship there. I think both camps are trying to minimize the dialogue on this issue. "can't talk about the details of the case, bla bla bla." Oh well, I still think Satriani is the one who raised the flag. An uprising had started.:P He's going to lose his case. I will head up the North American Satriani loss party.
  21. EMI HAS PULLED THE VIDEO  EMI HAS PULLED THE VIDEO FROM YOUTUBE. sorry, all... The only question is, did - 1. emi's minions ask for it to be pulled. 2. coldplay's minions ask for it to be pulled.(emi) 3. satriani's minions ask for it to be pulled.(yes, emi as well)
  22. Hey everyone, thanks for the help, this video got 1200+ views in the first 24 hours. I've gotten over 10 different personal messages in youtube from those who have found other songs, earlier than satriani's, with similar progressions & melody line. AND YOU CANNOT BELIEVE THE SWEET BLISS INVOLVED IN ZAPPING A TARD HATERS COMMENTS BY SIMPLY PRESSING "REMOVE" FROM MY YOUTUBE PAGE. zwop! gone. I don't mind those who don't like the band, I get that. But they talk as though the band just fired Johnny, and brought in Sarah Palin as the replacement. Blind rage, and for what? How did simple, mellow tunes instill such a visceral reaction. LET THEM SAY WHAT THEY WANT! IN THE LATE NIGHT HOURS WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING THEY ARE CROUCHED OVER THEIR GIRLFRIENDS IPOD AT 2AM WITH EARBUDS IN THE EAR AND A GUILTY SMILE ON THEIR SILLY FACES!
  23. nice avatar jimmyarts, I have it on good authority, that Wall-E listens to coldplay!
  24. What a great pic! If I had only seen that before I finished the video I would have made it the main pic for the video. (right at the end) HA! And yes my thread was misleading, but as I am learning, that's the only way to get your point out there these days. Hey, over 100 views in less than 2 hours. That's great, keep it going. Let's make it viral. The more people see this, the quicker the general public will drop the whole. "duhhhh,,,did you see that video. uhhhh... it looks like coldplay stole a song from somebody."
