  2. I know, exactly! It shouldn't matter who you are... what your background is.. how much money you have.. where you live.. it's the music that counts. If you love what they do, f*** the rest! I think it's really sad how much influence class seems to have over people's views on others. I really don't get it.. so what if Coldplays roots are middle class. Does that make them superior, pompous, lame, gay? (btw, I hate the offensive way so many young people use that word in this country, because there's nothing wrong at all with being gay and it's such a abusive way to use the word, because you're basically using it as a description for someone lame or stupid, which is what I assume people think they're saying when they use the word about something or somebody they don't like.) Music's meant to bring everyone together at the end of the day. But I guess that the harsh truth is people are judged by their background status all too often in our society and it does have a strong effect on people's attitudes. I've learnt to accept that some people just really don't like Chris Martin and like making a mockery of their music, for whatever reason that I can't see or understand. You have to put up with some s*** from some people, whatever it is you like. That's the way it seems to be. Not everyone has the same taste or the ability to love their music. But I for one do and fans like us the world over continue to proove just how loved they are. People can call them lame names as much as they want.. they're still the best band in the world. :P ;) :nice: Well, I agree with you to an extent (I myself am a self-confessed loather of Girls Aloud. Can't stand them and their sexist crap! They're such a vacuum of talentlessness!) but I think that the main reason that they beat the boys to Best Single was because they have a mass-following of teeny-boppers, and pre-pubescent teens are a powerful lot when it comes to these manufactured girl bands/singers. Just about everyone who's 13 is in love with Cheryl Cole and the sickly sweet candy fluff they produce. They love their songs, the way they dress, the want to be them when they grow up. (can someone say shallow?) Of course there are alot of young Coldplay fans too.. but I think in the young age group that bothered to nag their parents to vote/picked up the phone and dialled, they're the minority. If it turns out there were loads of adults who voted for Girls Aloud... which somehow I find unlikely because of the actual talent that was up against them and all deserved to win more (minus AC/DC, JMO. :P) god help us all.
  3. You know you might have a point there. My close family all love Coldplay and don't understand why on earth they didn't win anything at the Brits... but I have to say, I am middle class. I live in the South and it does feel like the class divide actually has something to do with how people see them as a band. And it's not just them.. I'm a Keane fan also, and the same kind of "gay" and "posh" jokes seem to apply to them also  At least, that's how it feels to me from my experience. I'm only 18 and at college, but it's not a particuarly good one and not private. I am viewed as pretty "posh" by alot of the students for the way I talk and my taste in things. When I've mentioned Coldplay to others, they often pull disgusted faces. They think Chris Martin is "gay" and can't sing or that they're middle class, so therefore are considered lame grammar school boys. Other people who are much more of musical snobbery hate them because they think their music is crap and they're over-hyped, oh and that Chris has a huge ego. I just don't understand the level of hate they get from some people. It's like they're an insult to music or something. Really, what is wrong with them? I just don't see why they're deserving of being loathed. They make great music and Chris is such a funny guy... people are missing out on alot. ;) Anyway, to stay on topic.. I love the fact that they had blue white and red butterfly confetti as to stick with the British theme. :D
  4. ITA - VLV as a track is just, how can you say, timeless. I still haven't got sick of hearing it and I've listened to it about 10000 gazillion times now. It's a really really great track. And I agree about the way it's presented - they let two young comedians who weren't (IMO) in any way actually funny, even though they were trying hard to be with their stupid jokes that only 14 year old boys would find funny. Us Brits have all too often snubbed Coldplay - so many people don't or won't take them seriously - I get laughed at by people of my age for liking them. Urm, they have actually have talent! What's so funny about that? *sighs* They have sold so many records and yet they still don't get the recognition they deserve from their OWN COUNTRY. :veryangry2: Doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. :\
  5. Awww, that's so nice of you to say! And glad you acknowledge that we're best in the music stakes. :P :laugh3: Couldn't agree more with you! I'm going to be singing my heart out at Wembley in the summer along with 90,000 coldplay fans. They're the best there is awards or no awards, and that's all that matters. :P :D (and thanks btw ;))
  6. LOL, it's shameful isn't it? I actually want to hang my head in shame over this. :( And shame on Duffy for doing a Diet Coke ad. Does she really need the money that bad what with her millions-of-copies-selling album? Ew, Diet Coke. It's horrible!
  7. (Hey there my fellow Coldplay fans, newbie here. :D First post, normally just a lurker! :laugh3:) I completely agree with you on this. The boys winning nothing may be really dissapointing for Coldplay fans everywhere, no matter where you live, cause we all love them and their music. But being British yourself makes it feel so much worse. It is such a massive event for the British music industry and is really hyped up for months beforehand - so to have Coldplay on home turf going away with nothing because not enough of the voting boards/british public voted for them is SO damn dissapointing. I really can't believe that they've gone away empty handed! They're the biggest band we've had in decades (apart from U2, but they're from Ireland), they've conquered almost the entire world, they fill massive stadiums, they were NUMBER 1 in the British Album stakes of 08. It's just ridiculous!!! :veryangry2: The Brits has officially turned into a joke, an absoloute joke. They've been nominated for best album 3 times before. After VLV, they really deserved to get it this time. And I actually believed they would! I shouldn't have got my hopes up... I guess they're just too "big" for The Brits now. Whatever that means. And too many people snub them for that, I really do think it's true. The overall impression I've got is that when it comes to the phone/internet votes, overall the people who vote are teenagers - hence Girls Aloud winning best single. Because, really, would any decent music-loving adult vote for them over the likes of Coldplay? Puh-lease, they don't even write their own songs. Wow, this is really pathetic. Atleast Elbow won something. That's the only thing good that came of this year! (sorry, rant over)
