  1. :inquisitive:  Is this for realz? Lmfao.... geese. :laugh3: :laugh3: Actually, I think you do have a point. I see several "similarities" as such between CP and AF. But, they're not explicit, imo... Yeah so the period clothes is a connection. And Chris does think very highly of them as a band. Therefore he and CP have probably been influenced by them in some way. Chris may have drawn something from the band which has gone into their music. VLV was more experimental with the inclusion of new instruments, a lot of drums and more exotic sounds. That reminds me a little of Arcade Fire and their wide range of instruments weaved into their songs. And they did record it in a church which is another connection. That doesn't mean they were trying to copy them, however. But again, I don't think it's as explicit as you portray it. Arcade Fire weren't the first ones to dress up in band costume from another "era". The Beatles did it ages back. There seem to be several other British bands copying CP with the dress style now too which I've noticed. Coldplay have been inspired and influenced by loads of bands. I don't think VLV really sounds all that like Neon Bible, tbh. Both CP and AF have their own original sound and style. But that's just me. ^ :laugh3: Epic post my friend.
  2. Great thread! :nice: Ohh, so so many to choose from. I love most Coldplay lyrics, in fact, pretty much all of them. Chris writes so many lines that really speak volumes to me. This verse is a fave that hasn't been posted yet: Oh what good is it to live With nothing left to give Forget but not forgive Not loving all you see - Swallowed in the sea I love the last line... So I waited for you What wouldn't I do And I'm covered its true I'm covered in you -Proof So beautiful, the description of being "covered" in someone. I just love how CM can describe love and the pain/joy/sorrow/effects of it in so many different ways, haha. "questions of science, science and progress don't speak as loud as my heart" sigh. "nothing matters except life and the love you make" - Crest of waves I'd have this line tattooed on me somewhere... if I was brave/mad enough to have one, hehe. I often find myself thinking it because it's kind of like a motto. and Prospekt's March... that has so many lines I love. My fave off the EP. "I ask you if you remember Prospekt, how could I forget?" "But here I lie On my own in a separate sky..." The last line, is so clever, and so evocative of the picture the song paints. It's really pretty. I'll come back with more later. :P
  3. ARE YOU FREAKIN JOKING?!?? :o Oh em gee, you could at least let someone else have a chance at getting something!! :P Jesus, Lo&Loud is so lucky the word doesn't even justify it... :stunned:  WOW!!! Well done!! :D You must be so happy!! :nice: Congrats to everyone who won something :D
  4. OMG, I'm so happy they've raised so much money! It's just fantastic!!! :D :D And INSANELY jealous of the several incredibly lucky Coldplayers who had the money and managed to win something... urgh, you (lo&loud) got Chris's SS outfit AND one of the guitars?! :freak: I could actually weep with envy. :laugh3: Hehe me too! :D :nice: Me and my brother practically begged for them, I remember everyone going nuts to try and get the roadie guy to give them out.
  5. :laugh3: This is sooo true. I do the same thing. For example: Switch on the radio, turn the volume up, incidentally stops on "42" - "omg 42 it's Coldplay fate!" Taking my two dogs for a walk, near our house at a camp-site there's a big hill with a wooden bench sitting on the top. Think "omg it's just like violet hill" :wacky: "i wish it would snow so i could sit on the bench and listen to it on my ipod" See a packet of Jaffa cakes in the supermarket, my brain automatically goes "omg Jonny!" In a clothes shop, looking through racks, find a military inspired coat/jacket. "omg this designer was so inspired by coldplay" Eating hummus... "i wonder whether Chris has ever made homemade hummus... I know he must eat it"  See a curly wurly bar/packet of twiglets "omg Chris loves those" :D See a copy of the Yellow Pages "omg yellow" :cheesy: :stunned: LMFAO. Oh god that made me laugh so hard. :laugh3: I've had the weirdest Coldplay dreams too. I can't remember half of them properly though.
  6. That's exactly my sentiment, totally feel the same way. I should have probably made something more clear in my post - I wouldn't say I hate her (in a serious way) - it's a very strong word and to say you hate someone you don't even know as a real person is a bit close-minded. But I do have some peeves with her which I can't help. A big part of that is to do with jealousy, I know. But I can't help that feeling either. :P I don't mean to come in here and offend anyone. Her friendship with Madonna is one of those peeves, as I really can't stand her (as a person, her persona, behaviour. Not her music so much - at least not the old stuff, I like a lot of it.). (Again, that's just my opinion. :P) But there are some positive things I can say about Gwenth, like the fact she doesn't seem to mind being spotted by the paps out and about without make-up on. She seems to be a good Mum and it's no mean feat managing a multi-career, being married to a rock star who goes on tour for months on end and looking after your kids properly at the same time. Or that she inspired Chris to write Fix You, and Swallowed in the sea. ;) They are a sweet couple, too. :nice: I really love that coat she's wearing. Not so much the shoes, but the coat's gorgeous.
  7. Me neither. But I can't help it. :disappointed: I just have this peeve about her. There is, I must admit, the very small chance that my feelings have something to do with her being married to a certain rock star. And being pretty, skinny, sucsessful and all-round-angelic. Urgh.
  8. Oh my god, I just realised that too. :uhoh2: How COULD you MTV?!?
  9. Thanks for telling us about this! :nice: There's some pretty good tracks on there... but Yellow is def the best so of course, I voted for it. :D I'm a little suprised Muse isn't there... if I had to vote for one other than CP, I'd of probably of voted for The Killers Mr Brightside.
  10. Oh wow, that was incredible.... :D I've just spent the last hour going as nuts as Chris in my dining room with our surround speakers on full volume. Oh god I'm so embarassing. :laugh3: The sound quality was amazing on that recording. And hearing the crowd so loud, gaaah. Makes me want to be there again at Wembley singing along on a wave of euphoria. Fix You was probably my fave part, the crowd reaction at the end... "that must be some kind of record" - Chris  :D And no problem guys, just thought I'd let you all know. :nice:
  11. Is anyone currently listening to Radio 1??? (Fearn Cotton's show) - They've just started playing (12 pm UK time) a WHOLE HOUR of Coldplay live, the recording from Hampden Park in Glasgow back in Sept. Everyone who's online right now, go click "Listen live" to listen :D http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pfl65 I think they already played it back in Sept on the Friday of the first Wembley concert... (Jo Whiley's last show). But I'm excited to hear it again in full. Don't worry if you miss it... you can listen again for a whole week. It sounds effing amazing..... bringing back so many memories from Wembley :D :D
  12. ^ This is true, and ITA... but still, kinda a little bit dissapointed regardless. I wanted them to release Christmas Lights soooo much. :bigcry: Well, it still might be too late. But they have sent their Xmas message now (which wasn't a video! :() (but still sweet :nice:). I guess will just have to hope they release it on the next album... it may end up being released near enough to Christmas anyway, if the rumours of late-ish 2010 are true.
  13. Aww, your welcome guys!! :nice: My name's Amy :)
  14. :stunned: I had no idea there was a remix!!! *listens* Done and done. (As in, signed. :P)
  15. A Christmas prezzie for you ChrisJonny girls (I think I'm officially turning into one myself....), taken just behind front row at the Exeter Homecoming gig - not that great a quality pic but it's cute anyhow :nice: And the vid I took of Strawberry Swing (if you haven't seen this moment already!) love how Chris looks up to Jonny when they're playing the last few chords facing each other  Really sweet moment, they're a true bromance :wacky: [ame= ] [/ame]
  16. Yipeeeeeeeee, I'm so happy!! :D I've had a very Coldplay-filled Christmas this year.... first Exeter Castle homecoming, then these gifts. Okay so I didn't get Chris or Guy wrapped up in shiny ribbon but still  Here's some pictures :nice: I got the Official 09 Viva Calendar... (thought I'd post my fave month photos :P) And a Plate and Mug set that they did for the Whatever It Takes charity project where they got various celebs to create a design for China (from my Mum! :wacky:)... (I think Chris mainly designed it cause it's his writing... I love what they put - all the things that make them happy. :D I love the "Johnny's solo on 42", "Guy's pictures" one, and "Yoga, Yoda, Yogi, Yoghurt Drinks" :laugh3:) Oh and I also got the 2003 Live DVD which I've wanted for ages and never bought, going to watch it later... :) OMG. :stunned: You frikkin lucky thing!!! I'm soooo jealous :( :P I hope to get the box set myself with my Xmas money, from Ebay... ohhh I want it so bad. And a signed Rolling Stone copy? :bomb: How are you getting it? Ebay?
  17. Greetings! :nice: Yes yes, I was the girl with her brother and her parents in the queue! Were you the woman just behind us who was telling us about going to see Muse's homecoming gig? Thankyou for asking about the paper - another Coldplaying member has kindly offered to send me one so I'm covered! I was just looking at the 'Exeter Coldplay concert hailed by fans' piece on the Echo's website, and I have to say freaking bravo for that post you wrote in response to that bunch of ignorant narrow minded bigots - some of those comments posted made my blood boil, especially the ones directed towards the couple from Barcelona who were with us in the queue. (the guy is a member here which I've just found out, Fran Rey) BTW, the photos you took are bloody fantastic - thankyou so much for uploading them. Makes me wish I'd had a better camera with me - I will probably never get as close to the band as we were again. I just couldn't get over how miniscule that stage was. It was like seeing one of the biggest bands in the world perform in your school hall... except the stage was even smaller than the sort our Christmas nativity's were performed on!! Oh, WOW. Thankyou so so much for uploading all of these....I can't believe how much footage you got! :D I am so happy you got 42 as it was one of the moments I'd forgot... I hate how my brain tends to blank out loads of things after such an exciting gig :( Now it's all come back to my memory. :D
  18. Ohhh those are so pretty. Mind if I use one? :D Thankyou! x
  19. Hey guys just wanted to post to say my Billie Jean video is up :D [ame= ] [/ame] Such a great moment, all the friends and family dancing about and everyone singing along. There was a real feeling of homely togetherness during this, brings such a big grin to my face watching it back....  "no way man, he used protection...!" Oh Chris!  Wow, I love these 4 guys so much... they're just the best.
  20. :shocked2: LISSI!! OH MY GODDDDD!!! You were on the same train as Will and Jonny!? And you DIDN'T say hello!?! :bomb: You silly silly girl!! :laugh3: Awwwe you should have been brave and gone up to them, I don't think they get recognised half as much as Chris... they said they can travel around London on public transport pretty easily without being hassled when they were on The South Bank Show. If I had been you I think I would have been too intimidated too; when I had the chance to talk to Jo Whiley on Sat night my bro was the one who forced me to have courage :P Still, how likely are you to get that opportunity again... :( :stunned: How did you manage to meet Chris after the show?? Did you have to wait around the venue until they were leaving? Wow your so lucky, I thought about waiting around for a while but I convinced myself me and my brother would have to wait for several hours in the cold. What time was it do you think when you met him? And I understand what you mean, if there was one negative thing I could say it would be my disappointment at them not playing Shiver. I was reeeally hoping they would play it and I kinda believed there was a good chance they would... as it's the first song they played for Jo Whiley live on Radio 1 years ago in the Parachutes era. They actually played it in her live lounge on the Friday of Wembley back in Sept, I'm sure... so I don't really understand why they really didn't want to on Saturday. :\ It must mean something that Chris said about how Guy doesn't like playing it anymore... perhaps it's personal, or he's just tired of it.. Guy himself said that it just wouldn't have sounded good enough live either... But they must have a genuine reason, it's just I felt a bit sad that they didn't decide to delve into the lesser-played Parachutes or AROBTTH tracks at all. Don't get me wrong I loved the Christmas covers and was very happy Chris played Till Kingdom Come but I wasn't expecting them to stick mainly to the Viva Setlist. I kind of ended up thinking that it may be something to do with the fact that they would have had to practice a lot more to play some of the older songs that haven't been played on the Viva Tour. But still, it was sad having to accept that I probably never will get to hear Shiver live. Oh well mustn't moan!! BTW my Strawberry Swing video is up now... you can even watch it in HD. :nice: [ame= ] [/ame]
  21. Hey again everyone :D Still feel somewhat exhausted today, my brain was totally fried by Saturday night. Been reading everyone's posts from the gig, Chris - your pictures made me literally :shocked2: They're frikkin FANTASTIC. Woww, you should be proud. I think I'll end up printing some of those out and putting them on my wall. :D And I'm so glad there's so much video from you guys at the front too as I didn't get everything, was too busy having a good time. ;) OMG the Exeter Echo newspaper is out today then?? Me and my brother were near enough to the front of the line to have our picture taken by the journalist, he said the photos would hopefully be in this weeks paper. The couple next to us who had travelled all the way from Barcelona had theirs taken too, I hope they get a mention. :nice: Oh how I'd love to get a copy of it... unfortunately I'm too far away from Devon. :( If anyone possibly has a copy that they could photograph for me I would be sooooo grateful to you!! I'm hoping all the stuff will appear online later as there's already a little piece up *fingers crossed* - but to have a copy to keep would be amazing.... If anyone happens to have a spare one, I'd pay for the postage. :D I've just uploaded my first two vids to Youtube, DL everything's taking a long time as they're high quality. War Is Over for the second and final encore: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XpdXK0jEro]clicky here[/ame] Really pleased with the quality all though I did ended pointing the camera at the floor for several seconds so sorry about that. :P And Strawberry Swing in full with some Chris/Jonny awesomeness: [ame= ] [/ame] Hope you enjoy them :D Hahaha, these two moments were great. I felt so sorry for Chris at the end of 42, he was already so exhausted and out of breath, his comment about needing to get down to the local fitness club... lolol. :laugh3: The yodelling part was hilarious, I remember all of us were making as much noise as we could back at Chris and stamping our feet and he just kept asking for more. The noise he made at the end made us all giggle. He's so cute in such a dorky way. Some other moments I loved: Jonny messing up playing DAAHF when he missed his queue - Chris totally told him off, calling it a "royal f*** up" Jonny was just laughing and the crowd ended up cheering support for him which Chris responded to by saying how this is why he's the greatest guitarist in the world - "people love him even when he plays no chords" :laugh3: Awwwweee... The guys all leaving the main stage and going to the back of the tent to the little c-stage. "Billie Jean" was just one big sing along, I couldn't see very much but I loved Will joining in the vocals like at Wembley, so funny when they changed the lines to "she thinks Will is the one" "but he used protection..." (:laugh3:) and Chris's MJ-esque high pitched noises were all copied by the crowd. :D Will sung "Death will never conquer" beautifully and it was so nice to hear some of the proper fans singing the lyrics with him (). The most touching performance of the evening for me was definitely Chris's solo acoustic performance of "Till Kingdom Come"... the rest of the boys left Chris and went back to the front stage. Chris dedicating it to his dad and saying thankyou was so sweet, all their family and friends were literally just behind them and I could see Chris's dad next to Jo Whiley. I wanted to cry at this point, Chris sung TKC straight from the heart. I've got vid for most of it which I'm uploading, will be up later hopefully. I didn't get many good pics as my video recorder camera is a crappy 4 megapixels :bomb: But I did get one half decent shot of Chris and Jonny... :nice:
  22. Hi everyone, I'm a bit late to the party considering I got back home at 4 am last night from Exeter but I only got about 4 hours sleep (was so full of adrenelin and ears still ringing at 5 am it took me ages to get any shut eye lol) and was completely exhausted today which made it impossible for me to write anything proper  I am planning to write a longer review tommorow and post some of my videos but thought I'd just make a quick post before going to bed. Last night was really the most incredible night I've ever experience. I'm still trying to shake off that feeling of surrealism... I just couldn't take it all in last night, it was like a dream. One you'd never think would happen in real life. :D :D Me and my younger brother got to the queue at about 5-ish and there were less than 20 people in the line ahead of us. We were next to a really sweet Spanish couple who'd come all the way from Barcelona and I quickly learnt from them that the first lot of people in the queue had been there since the morning, immediately thought they must be Coldplayers :P I'm SO envious of some of you for being able to meet Chris and Guy like that (:bomb:) really sweet of them to sign stuff and have pics taken :nice: But tbh I'm not sure I could have survived in the cold for those many hours, I don't know how you did it as by the time I'd been standing for half an hour I was already loosing feeling in my toes  I just wish I could have had the opportunity but hey, I'm not giving up on fulfilling that dream in the future :D I had a somewhat over optimistic hope that I might be able to meet at least one of the guys after the gig but they went around the back way that was fenced off to the side of the marquee and straight into the vip hall in the castle and I missed them. :( When the gates finally opened me and my brother walked up to the castle as quickly as we could. The first thing I thought when I entered the marquee was how absolutely minuscule it was, it felt like less than 500 people to me. It was so Christmas-y, decorated with blue lights draped from the ceiling and Christmas trees around the castle, it was just perfect. :nice: Once I'd had a look in the marquee I had to go to the loo so ended up having a really panicy moment after leaving my brother to get as close to the front of the stage inside the marquee as poss and try and find the toliets which took me about 5 minutes. I ended up running like a mad person all the way back up to the tent because I was so worried about not getting to the front. :laugh3: Luckily me and my brother were standing with only one or two lines of people in front of us and we were right in the centre of the floor. I just couldn't believe our luck - I was so close, I could see Johnny to my left play every cord, Guy to my right, Will at the back, and pretty much every hair on Chris's head. :D It was incredible to be in such a small intimate setting and that close to a band that I've only seen from far away on the two concerts I've seen them before - it was almost like a pub gig, the atmosphere and everything. I never thought I'd be lucky enough to get the opportunity to see the guys playing in that situation, ever. When they first came out on to the stage after Joe Whiley introduced them, it was unreal for me because to see them that close on such a little stage... felt so strange. In a fantastic way. :D I have loads of thoughts on the setlist, Chris's banter and other little things but I'll have to leave those for tommorow as I'm so tired! But I am going to upload my vids to youtube which I took with my amazing Sony HD handycam. I got loads of footage, several full songs, including when they first came on stage and the second encore when they played the War Is Over cover all huddled around the mic with Will playing the piano (!) which was such a fuzzy moment, a beautiful way to end the show.   (nearly made me cry!) I will never forget last night, it was just unforgettable. I feel so privileged to have been there. :D Although I didn't get to meet the boys, I felt lucky to have got as close to the stage as I did. (and I did make eye contact with Guy fleetingly... I swear.) He was so smiley and really enjoying the crowd, he got several shout outs from girls in the crowd. ;) Was dissapointed that I failed to get Chris to notice me but it was half made up by the fact that me and my brother got to chat to Radio 1 DJ and event organiser Joe Whiley after CP had finished... we even got a piccie taken with her which was so awesome. I said thankyou to her for helping arrange the gig. She was really sweet and friendly and seemed just as blown away as me by the evening, telling us how lucky we were to get tickets and how the band won't be doing something like this again for a long time which makes it even more special. It certainly was. :D Amy x
  23. :bomb: :bomb: I still can't quite believe I'm actually going to this. I'm going to see Coldplay, with just FIVE HUNDRED other people in a Christmas Marquee in Devon. If you'd told me this a week ago, I'd never believed it. Period. I hope (if there is) snow that it won't get in the way of anyone travelling... it only takes a centimetre of snow to grind everything to a hault here. Hoping the roads won't be too clogged or delayed... at least I've got the whole day clear to get down, we will be leaving as early as poss so we can get something to eat beforehand and get there with lots of time. I can't imagine there being a queue outside before 6 if these temperatures stay till Sat... it's literally freezing here! Does anyone know for certain if we will be seated or standing? I'm assuming it will just be a stand up concert which means I'm going to be struggling to see the stage as usual... I should take a box to stand on. :laugh3: Unless I can get right to the front, although I'm not sure that would be possible. Oh, to be at the front. :awesome:
