I tried to pick tracks from different genres and different eras that I felt were summery. Some of it is ska which is what might have scared my reviewer away, along with the more poppy tracks. I just wanted to try something different.

If there's anyone out there who still hasn't received a mixtape, I'd like to make another one. I feel the need to redeem myself now. And in the future I shall stay clear away from themes. :dozey:

Hi, that was me. I was trying to make it themed, but apparently I failed. Most of that stuff doesn't actually represent what I listen to most of the time so please don't judge me. Sorry it wasn't up to your standards.

Received my mixtape, reviewing while I listen...with song information unfortunately. But that happened to me last time too, it's no big deal. :nice: 1) Motion City Soundtrack! I've been meaning to give them a listen. Pretty good, poppy and catchy. Good start. 2) Oooh I like the intro! Nice strings! If I didn't know better I'd say it sounds like vuvuzelas. But much more pleasant. Never heard of this band but I think I might check them out now. They have a nice warm, thick sound. 3) Also a very warm sound...haha I just don't know how to describe it. I guess I suck at writing reviews. The singer has a really good voice though. 4) Ok so I cheated a little...I couldn't open it in iTunes so I looked it up on YouTube since I had the info. But I like it! It's kind of electronic-sounding, with a catchy bass line and some "Ah, ah ahs" that cut in and out, and some synth and distorted guitar later on. 5) Opens with acoustic guitar, female singer, then some light bass and backing vocals are added. Kind of sounds like Ingrid Michaelson a bit? Very mellow, with cute, romantic lyrics: "Be mine, Valentine." Aww. 6) "When I watch you, wanna do you, right where you're standing..." Heh. This is really good though, quite upbeat. Sounds a bit like The Strokes, but punkier. 7) Another upbeat rock song. I'm sh-sh-shaking. I like it. 8) Oh hey I've heard this song! I always thought it was the Black Eyed Peas but apparently not? Sounds like them though. Very upbeat, with a sort of hip hop-reggae beat. This is a very nice contrast to everything I've heard so far. 9) Same as #4, I had to YouTube it. Meh. Very catchy though, interesting lyrics..."You are the girl I've been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl," sung by a guy? Hm. The video is really interesting too if you haven't seen it. Pretty good overall. 10) Piano ballad? Oh, John Legend. Classic. I really like the lyrics. "We can destroy hunger, we can conquer hate. Put down your arms and raise your voice, we're joining hands today." How inspirational! iTunes recommends a playlist called Election Songs, lol. 11) My sister loves The Rocket Summer so I'm somewhat familiar with him. I like what I've heard so far and this is no exception. Very upbeat. It makes me happy. 12) Moby? I think I've heard this one before. I like it. Lots of strings, delicate piano, and atmospherics with a techno beat. Overall, awesome job! Not a single song I dislike. :D I'll have to check out some of these artists. Thanks so much! :nice:

"A Message" is beautiful.
Ahh, I love A Message...makes me cry every time, it's just so beautiful. It's one of those songs that make me feel like Chris is singing to me when I hear it. :wacky: I don't really understand all this X&Y bashing. No, it's not their best album, but it's still very well-made, with several unforgettable tracks. It will always have a special place in my heart for being the album that made me fall in love with Coldplay, after hearing Clocks one day on the radio. In retrospect, I'm glad that it sounds so different from their previous albums. It is evidence of their versatility as artists.

"Unseen Swells" - Article
^THIS. :D Regardless of what anyone says, there is no objective way to judge how "cool" something is/isn't. Coolness is entirely arbitrary and subjective and is therefore meaningless as a means to compare music or any other art form.

American Idol: Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta cover Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’
To be honest, I really liked it. They made it their own and their voices sound nice together. Great job with the harmonies. Lighten up guys! No one could EVER "ruin" such a brilliant song as The Scientist. :smug:

Coldplay say YES! to Glee
Normally, I would say NO WAY to something like this, but I love Glee, so this is exciting! Please don't judge me. :P I can't wait to see which song(s) they pick.

Hey kids, who wants to hear my crazy stories about Mexico?
AHHHH FINALLY CHRISSY! But aww he was swarmed by fans! But I would totally be one of those fans! I can't wait to hear what Ryan's mother thinks of all this. Certainly she'll be super happy to know that the story finally got to the band--the WHOLE band--and to have your awesome pics to put on the site! You used your stalker skills to help a great cause! :nice: This would be a great ending, but I have a feeling it's not over yet...is it?

Eeeeep. :\ Good luck with that! I still don't blame you for being in this thread instead though, haha. It's just so suspenseful!

Haha same here... I've been sitting in the library for the past hour reading this, when I need to be writing a huge paper that's due in two days. :dozey:

The 5th Mixtape Exchange (Tapes In First Post)
Ahaha, so...I kind of forgot about this. Sorry! It seems that the maker of my mixtape didn't get the memo about deleting the song info? But that's ok. I don't know a lot of this stuff anyway. :D So, onward with the review! Track 1: Great way to start! Catchy and nice and upbeat. I'm not familiar with this band but this definitely sounds like something I would listen to. Track 2: I love the instrumental intro. I'm a sucker for strings. :awesome: It has a very calming and chill feel to it overall, plus bongos, a tropical-ish beat, and great back-up vocals. Track 3: Oh heeey I know this song. I think it was in a car commerical? I really really like it though. This band kind of sounds like The Strokes a bit. Love the syncopated rhythms. I could dance to this. Track 4: Bright Eyes!! I LOVE this song. Lots of acoustic guitar and sort of a country/folk feel. I like how it picks up toward the end. Their whole album is brilliant really. Track 5: "Hey you little sexy pig, you've made it with a man, and now you've got a little kid with hooves instead of hands." Bahaha. I'm not sure if this song is supposed to make me laugh, but I find it pretty funny. Mainly it's the random animal lyrics but also his manner of singing. Sounds like a nursery rhyme! Track 6: More strings yay! :nice: I've been meaning to check out this band. I really really like this so I'll have to listen to some of their other music. Track 7: Ooooh echoey guitars. Another mellow, calming song...that seems to be your taste? I like it. :D Track 8: Hmm this is kinda different... I can't really figure it out but I like it. OH I HEAR HORNS! And chanting! Ok this is officially a really cool song. I'm not sure if it sounds more like ragtime, or country, or folk, or whatever, but it's cool. It makes me picture a bunch of people in a bar somewhere in the South square-dancing or something, haha. Track 9: Simon and Garfunkel...their music always manages to give me chills. I really like this. Again with the strings. :D I love the build-up and tension that leads to a climax right before the end. Track 10: Ok I see now, the previous track leads into this one, and this is super short so not much to say, but it brings the other song to a needed conclusion. Track 11: And now for something completely different...haha. Kind of techno-ish with a heavy beat and lots of screechy guitars. Almost sounds like Imogen Heap a little? Not really though. Track 12: Ahh here's another band I've been wanting to check out! Another mellow acousticy song but this one's thicker with vocal parts and atmospherics. Rather eerie sounding...I like it. Track 13: I like the exchange between the male and female singer. Their voices sound nice together. This song has kind of a foreboding, ominous feel to it Track 14: Very upbeat and happy! I like it. This has the potential to get stuck in my head. :D Overall: Great job! You have really good taste! :) You've made me want to start listening to a few of these bands...so, success! :D I love the mellow mood of this mixtape. It's very soothing, which is a high priority for the music I listen to. Thanks so much! :nice:

Vote Guy for HOTTEST MALE
Why the hell is Taylor Lautner on this list?? He's not a musician! He shouldn't get to be an exception just because he's the new Twilight teen crush! A lot of these people are just weird looking, and don't even compare to Guy and Chris (who both got 10 from me :D).

The 5th Mixtape Exchange (Tapes In First Post)
A few things... 1) This is probably a dumb question that has already been answered, but I'm lazy, so...will we get a mixtape from the same person we're making one for? Or is each person paired with two different people? 2) If possible, I'd like to add my last.fm next to my name on the first page (hopefully it's not too late). Here: [ X ]

Help a little Coldplay Fan see the World
Wow, what a touching story. She truly was a beautiful little girl. The website is a brilliant idea and I really hope it reaches the band members. It's great to see so many people all over the world working to keep Ryan's memory alive. ^ That video is just too adorable! :nice: I actually started crying when I watched it. She's so sweet. My deepest condolences for your loss.

Gwyneth...
So...I read the new GOOP today, and my jaw pretty much dropped. Because learning to meditate was also one of my new year's resolutions. I actually started last week, after doing a bunch of reading on the subject...and then this comes. Creepy? Or is that a common resolution to make? It's funny, 'cause after last week's bizarro green juice recipes and "cleansing programs" I thought she was crazy and that there was no way I could relate to her. :laugh3:
