  1. wow i thought about 9/11 also, message when you create this thread incase im not on!
  2. No i didnt actually, I know john Travolta is also, plus alot of other A list celebs. It is a "religion" aimed at wealthy people because in order to improve your karma rating you must spend thousands of dollars. Really, how can a thinking person be sucked in by this nonsense.
  3. Ok i must admit, i am a fan of Tom Cruise, I love his movies but the love stops there, Scientology is madness, Its a tiny bit dfferent from other religion (though all are totally insane) because there is a record of how it was made up by a science fiction author in the mid 20th century!! along with mormonism which was made up by Joseph Smith. If anyone can base their life on the ramblings of two men then I lose respect for them.
  4. Yeh there are so many things to be skeptical of. Alternative medicines like homeopathy, religion, UFOs, Ghosts, supernatural etc..
  5. Yes I agree that is ridiculous. I really dont know why they have allowed that.
  6. UFO's make me laugh. Along with the supernatural, how about this for a quote; "Paranormal phenomena have a habit of going away whenever they are tested under rigorous conditions. This is why the $740,000 reward of James Randi, offered to anyone who can demonstrate a paranormal effect under proper scientific controls, is safe." - Richard Dawkins
  7. hmmm.. Great atheistic quotes? or the God Delusion?
  8. I like to think we as thinking humans should rise above our natural intincts. Also there would never be too many animals because we mass produce them for food. The natural balance would resume if we didnt eat meat.
  9. Yeh alot of atheists say that to me, I think hes great but i do prefer Dawkins. Im also a fan of Sam Harris.
  10. Yeh it was the late great Sagan, thats a fantastic quote, are you a fan of Hitchens and Dawkins?
  11. Yeh me too :) my fav quote is "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence"
  12. :) haha i thought that would make people hate me!
  13. It can be a good thing to forget animal instincts.
  14. Yes but they cannot suffer because they don't have nervous systems.
  15. I think the thing to remember with the third world is that they have no choice. As for religion, I dont think it deserves even an ounce of respect because they are all just crazy cults. I think people should be able to choose their own lifestyle so no i would never force anyone to be vegetarian, that also goes against my ethics. For me, its not simply the way its killed but yes that does play a part. I couldnt eat my pet dog if had been put to sleep peacefully because the thought is just sickening for me. I get that same feeling with cows, pigs, rabbits etc.. It just seems to me as selfish to eat an animal when there are other options. (im not saying you are selfish, just that thats how i personally feel) I have not always been a veggie, I always felt bad growing up but I just tried not to think about it, now i guess im more a more ethical person, I buy fair trade, I dont eat tuna etc. The only way i would eat meat is if it was grown genetically with out the animals. So their DNA would be used to manufacture meat using stem cells or something lol. Far fetched but then there would be no suffering - so theres my alternative. As for us needing meat, Its simply not true. most of our nomad ancestors would live on a diet of mainly berries and fruit. You can get alot of nutrients and essential vitamins from meat though, but all can be found in other foods.
  16. Hey did you watch any of those films i recommended ages ago for you? you probably dont remember do you?
  17. hahaha I cannot put into words how accurately that sums up what happens to me. "oh your being silly, get over it already etc etc etc.." but inside i cant and it just gets worse the more i think about stuff like that!
  18. This is excellent advice, especially from somebody that has never had depression.
  19. Everybody is unique, you should try to think more positively about yourself, I know its hard but there are some people in the world that are nasty and others that do not judge or think negatively about others. You should remember that and ignore the haters. Hope this helps. It does for me.
  20. Very good point. My family and my employer keep telling me that I should be taking my medication even though I have told them that the depression is nothing to do with a chemical imbalance, its just reactive depression (which basically means I get depressed for a real reason). Anyway, I took it for over 2 years and it did nothing (except give me irritating side effects) Yet they still persist with telling me to continue the treatment. It just shows they are ignorant of the variety of forms depression comes in. Its not always a chemical problem.
  21. Ive battled with depression for the last 3 years. Its not easy and not many people understand it, they think its easy to just snap out of it but its really not. My personal reasons for depression are very difficult to explain so I couldnt tell anyone for years. Now i have confided in close family and i feel better so I would advise you or anyone with a similar problem to build up their courage and do the same.
  22. Wow not many vegetarians. I never understand meat eaters, how do you decide your ethics? would you eat fois gras? would you eat any animal? dogs? cats? or just cows sheep etc..? Even though meat tastes great I personally cant bring myself to be part of it.
