'Collection of Mylo Xyloto reviews after the dust has settled' thread
Has anyone already psted the HITSDAILYDOUBLE review? http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news08756m01 Coldplay, Xylo Myloto (Capitol): The blogosphere hate for these U.K. pop-rockers is reminiscent of that directed toward the Police in their heyday. It’s not hard to see why. Both are fronted by pretty boys boasting powerful alpha wives, and have a tendency towards album and song titles that defy literal meaning but are catchy as hell (Zenyatta Mondatta and “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da,” anyone?). Maybe it’s just envy or jealousy, but all that critical venom has put Chris Martin and company a bit on the defensive for their fifth album. While it’s not a game-changer in the Joshua Tree, Kid A or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot mold, Xylo Myloto fits in neatly as a worthy sequel to Viva La Vida’s lush melodies and humble self-deprecation, exploring many of the same themes of love and power lost, trying to create a cocoon of comfort in a world where drowning (“Paradise”), burning (“Up in Flames”) or simply flying away (“Up with the Birds”) are the only real alternatives. Martin declares it’s “Us Against the World” in the song of the same name and in the “Sympathy for the Devil”-like oo-hoo background vocals of “Major Minus” (“They got one eye watching you/One eye on what you do/So be careful cause nothing they say is true”), then identifies with another put-upon Peanuts character in the glow-in-the-dark black light of “Charlie Brown.” “I turn the music up/I got my records on,” he declares in “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall.” “I shut the world outside until the lights come on… I feel my heart start beating to my favorite song.” Which is exactly the thrill we get when guitarist Jonny Buckland punches home the best melodies here, with a chiming riff in “Hurts Like Heaven,” plucked chords in the seductive “Paradise,” the clanging bell of “Us Against the World,” the Edge-like stabbing chords in “Major Minus,” the gleaming sparkle of “Don’t Let It Break Your Heart” and the twangy refrain in “Up With the Birds.” Martin’s lyrics remain elusive—some would say greeting card lame—but often find the macro in the micro, reiterating the phrase “Every tear a waterfall” in both “Paradise” and the song of the same name, while crooning, “Like a river to a raindrop” in “Up Against the World.” “Do you ever get the feeling you’re missing the mark?” he asks in the opening “Hurts Like Heaven,” with a vaulted chorus that transforms the profane into a sacred cathedral. In “Paradise,” he paraphrases the famous British ‘60s editorial about the Rolling Stones drug bust, “The wheel breaks the butterfly,” while in “Us Against the World,” he reiterates his desire for escape, returning to the simultaneous cleansing and destructive aspect of water (“And if we could float away/Fly up to the surface and just start again/And lift off before trouble/Just erodes us in the rain”). There are some classic Coldplay moments in “Paradise,” “Every Teardrop…,” “Major Minus” and the Viva La Vida-style rave-up “Don’t Let It Break Your Heart,” worthy additions to the oeuvre—while the Rihanna collaboration, “Princess of China,” has an Ibiza-like, Eurodisco dance-floor buzz that hints at further stylistic growth. Other notable touches include Martin’s falsetto and the Beach Boys harmonies on “Up in Flames” (“Can we pour some water on?”), the ambient Eno-xificated wash in “Don’t Let It Break Your Heart” and “Up With the Birds” and the final Will Champion drum solo that brings “Every Teardrop…” to its abrupt conclusion. Still, you can’t help but feel Chris Martin’s frustration on Xylo Myloto, trying to make a big statement, but putting the entire idea down at the same time, longing for consensus, but realizing pop has fragmented into so many pieces that all the king’s horses and all the king’s men can’t put it back together again. “Don’t want to see another generation drop,” he sings. “I’d rather be a comma than a full stop.” Which just about sums up the Coldplay dilemma… They’re damned if they try, and damned if they don’t. So they end up finding refuge somewhere in between. Which is no place for a rock band, especially one this talented.

A Rational look at Coldplay from a hater.
Brent baby, The Forever Alone pack is so proud of you. Music or any art form can't be rational. It's the most subjective thing in the world.

Coldplay sales Updates
This is billboard article. Coldplay #1 http://www.billboard.com/#/news/coldplay-claims-third-no-1-album-on-billboard-1005462962.story As expected, Coldplay climbs in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with its third chart-topping set, "Mylo Xyloto," selling 447,000 in its debut week according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Mylo's" bow marks the third largest sales week of the year for an album, after Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" debut (1.1 million) and Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" start (964,000). "Mylo" also earns the biggest week for a rock effort since U2's "No Line On the Horizon" debuted at No. 1 with 484,000 on the chart dated March 21, 2009. Since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991, only five rock acts have claimed three albums that debuted with at least 400,000. Coldplay is the latest member of that group, which also includes U2 (three 400,000-plus debuts), the Beatles (three), Dave Matthews Band (five) and Metallica (six). "Mylo" is Coldplay's fifth studio release and and its third straight studio set to reach No. 1. Its previous two -- 2008's "Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends" and 2005's "X&Y" -- both debuted at No. 1 as well, with 721,000 and 737,000 sold, respectively. Coldplay: The Billboard Cover Story "Viva's" blockbuster sales were fueled, in part, by the then-ubiquitous Apple iTunes TV commercial that featured the album's lead single, "Viva La Vida." The smash track was the band's first (and so far only) No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It topped the tally the week before the "Viva" album opened at No. 1. On the other hand, "Mylo's" first single, "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall," peaked at No. 14 on the Hot 100, while the album's second track, "Paradise," hit No. 15 last week. The Billboard 200's second-highest debut is Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger," which starts at No. 2 with 163,000 sold. It's the original "American Idol" champ's fifth album, and fifth consecutive to debut in the top three. Her last release, "All I Ever Wanted," was her second No. 1 album, when it debuted in the top slot with 255,000. The new album's first single, "Mr. Know It All," rises 16-15 on the Pop Songs airplay chart this week. A step below Clarkson is Michael Buble, who bows his first full-length holiday album, "Christmas," at No. 3 with 141,000. It's his fifth top 10 set and his first long-player since "Crazy Love" bowed at No. 1 in 2009 with 132,000. Expect "Christmas'" sales to grow larger as Thanksgiving approaches and the holiday season kicks into high gear. Last week's No. 1, Adele's "21," slips to No. 4 with 107,000 (up 1%) in its 36th week on the chart. Toby Keith's "Clancy's Tavern" starts at No. 5 with 69,000 -- his 12th top 10 album. His last release, "Bullets in the Gun," fired at No. 1 in 2010 with 71,000. On the Country Albums chart, "Clancy's" is his 10th No. 1 set. Toby Keith Almost Left Latest Hit, 'Made in America,' Off New Album Tom Waits makes waves as the singer/songwriter nets his first top 10 album -- and highest charter ever -- with his "Bad As Me" bowing at No. 6 with 63,000. The album nets his best sales week since SoundScan began in 1991, and is his first set of new studio recordings in eight years. In a chart career that began with 1975's No. 164-peaking "Nighthawks at the Diner," his previous high-water mark came with 2004's "Real Gone," which debuted and peaked at No. 24. As for the non-debuts in the top 10, Scotty McCreery's "Clear As Day" shifts 3-7 (42,000; down 25%), Lady Antebellum's "Own the Night" moves 7-8 (31,000; down 10%), Tony Bennett's "Duets II" goes 5-9 (just under 31,000; down 21%) and Casting Crowns' "Come to the Well" falls 2-10 (30,000; down 70%). Over on the Digital Songs chart, both the top seller and the highest debut have one thing in common: Rihanna. RiRi is at No. 1 for a second week with "We Found Love," featuring Calvin Harris, which sells another 243,000 downloads (up 5%). Rihanna is also one-half of the tally's highest debut at No. 8, where "Princess of China," by Coldplay & Rihanna, bows with 105,000. Right behind "Princess" is Kelly Clarkson's "Mr. Know It All," which charges 18-9 with 104,000 (up 60%). The track benefits from its parent album's release last week, plus performances of the song on NBC's "Today" (Oct. 25), ABC's "The View" (26) and "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" (28). At No. 10, Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" takes a big 63% hike as the song sells 100,000 and jumps up nine slots. It's his eighth top 10 title on the Digital Songs chart and is the first single from the forthcoming album "Only One Rida (Pt. 2)." The rest of the top 10 on Digital Songs is a bit static, as LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" holds at No. 2 (206,000; down 1%) as does Adele's "Someone Like You" at No. 3 (150,000; down 14%). Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" rises 6-4 (132,000) despite a 13% decline. Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" (featuring Christina Aguilera) also climbs 7-5, though it's down 11% (126,000). David Guetta's "Without You" (featuring Usher) moves 8-6 (117,000; down 7%) and Gym Class Heroes' "Stereo Hearts" (featuring Adam Levine) skips 9-7 (109,000; down 12%). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Oct. 30) totaled 5.61 million units, up 16% compared to the sum last week (4.82 million) and down 3% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (5.80 million). Year to date album sales stand at 249.29 million, up 3% compared to the same total at this point last year (241.94 million). It is the 23rd week in a row where year-to-date album volume is greater than the same time in the prior year. Digital track sales this past week totaled 20.10 million downloads, down 2% compared to last week (20.48 million) and up 7% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (18.77 million). Year to date track sales are at 1.03 billion, up 10% compared to the same total at this point last year (937.02 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2010 when: Taylor Swift held at No. 1 with "Speak Now" shifting 320,000 (down 69%) in its second week. Jason Aldean, meanwhile, bowed at No. 2 with "My Kinda Party" (193,000).

So who else thinks this is by far Coldplay's weakest album yet?
What I don't understand is why someone who doesn't like the album has to spend all his free time trying to prove how bad it is. If I don't like something, I move on. I'm not going to waste my time talking about it. And as long as there are MX haters on this forum, the MX lovers will defend the album. Not everyone will like the same thing. We won't convince anyone to like MX just because we do and haters won't convince anyone to hate it either. Music is very subjective, you either love it or hate it. No need to explain anything!

Is it safe to say that Mylo Xyloto is a UK sales flop?
I can no longer take you seriously. MX second week just started and there has been no news regarding the sales estimates. Heck, the 1st week of sales in the US will be confirmed in an hour. How do you know they are dropping more than expected? MX was predicted to sell between 425K to 450K and word has it it has sold 458K (more than expected)

Is it safe to say that Mylo Xyloto is a UK sales flop?
99% of albums will see a drop during the 2nd week. Even in the US! Expect a 60 to 75% drop in the second week. That's normal for every album. Lady Gaga's BTW album dropped 84% in the second week (that's a record) MX is already one of the most successful albums of the year and the tour will be a success.
