Why do some people even assume that you have to "get" the meaning of a song to appreciate it anyway? There is more to a song than just the lyrics. Course, this is coming from a musician, so of course I recognize the beauty in the chord structures, the chord progressions, and rhythm. But I agree with Natster when she says "Chris clearly keeps things ambiguous intentionally." Hell, Chris Martin and the members of Coldplay are mysterious and ambiguous, so of course their music would reflect that. What I think one song means, someone else might thing something completely different and we both claim we "get" the song. And the key is, we're both right. A song is meant to be taken by the listener at their face value. At least, that's what I've always thought. For instance, Proskept's March, to me, is about that moment before death when you contemplate the life you have lead and realize that we are born into this world alone and leave it ultimately alone, and it's a shocking revelation. But...that could be a completely bum meaning to someone else, who might construe the song to mean about a fear of death. Who knows! That's the beauty of Coldplay's lyrics. And finally, I feel like the OP's post came off as patronizing and condescending to the collective here at coldplaying.com. But...that's just my opinion.
