Wait.... isn't the UK part of Europe? Then you are a European! Wether you feel like it or not, that's another thing..... though I would take Finland, Iceland, the UK and Sweden as special cases
  3. Have you seen the electricity posts? The typical ones, with a "T" shape and they have three little things on top, were the cables are connected and passed to the next post... well I've noted they are one in each outer side, and the reamining one, in the middle, and this is in one side and then the next one, ie: Left, Left, Right/Left, Right, Right/Left, Left, Right/Lefht, Right, Right/etc... why is that?

Wow....... well, I don't sound as convincing as you, neither will I, but first who wrote it is an English man, to clarify that, and he wrote it on the 40's, around 1930-1940, I don't know the exact date. George Orwell wrote it, and well he was born in India, but lived a long time in Britain, and we consider him British. When you talk about music, by the years, you can see he's obviously not talking about Oasis and suchs. As I see it, Britain was not a place where music was made, such as France and Italy. They were genneralizations, as you said, and there are some expection, but mainly, and that's how I see it too, England was a place were music was played and reproduced, but not 'made'. Art, well again, the same as music; yuou might have good painters, so do we (Matta for instance), but they could be called 'exceptions'. I don't know how you see it, but what I see and I've studied, is that England is a place to sell things, and show them, not to make them. There wasn't anything such as the movements in France, Spain and Italy, mainly. I don't know much about Art really, but in the Opera, you can easily tell when it's "Italian made" or "French made" or even German... but there isn't anything such as "British made". What I mean after all, is that you don't have a style of your own, I believe. Science.... well, I will not comment on that. And philosophy, well I've only read French writers, so for me philosophy is a synonim of France, but because of your language, you should have some good ones. I will not comment on that either. I have no clue why they things about English; it looks much simpler to me than Spanish, even though, I can't speak it or write it properly, but that's another problem.

"Here are a couple of generalizations about England... One is that the english are not gifted artistically. They are not as musical as the Germans or Italians, painting and sculpture have never flourished in England as they have in France. Another is that, as Europeans go, the English are not intellectual. They have a horror of abstract thought, they feel no need for any philosophy or systematic 'world-view'. Nor is this because they are 'practical', as they are so fond on claiming. One has only to look at their methods of town-planning and water-supply... a spelling system that defies analysis and a sistem of weights and measures that is intelligible only to the compilers of arithmetic books, to see how little they care about mere efficiency..." Is that true, or was it? and what does the last 7 lines mean? I understand what it means, not why they say it...... about the town planning and the water supply, and I understand the things about the measurement system, but not really in the way they say it. And that's an essay I'm reading, it's called "England your England"

I'm reading a book called "Inside the whale and other essays" and the first one is called "In......" and it's a sort of reflection about a book, Tropic of Cancer, which is thought to be pornographic and obscene, but it really goes way behond that...... and I've never read the book....... the thing is, it's really interesting, but I could not understand why the name and I found out that it is a book, a story....... does anyone know it? I'm looking for it, for the book I mean, and I haven't being able to find it! Thanks :D

  14. Have you ever sort of thought or met that kind of people who think just like you, or even more, and got an amazing, particular and strange understanding of what you think and feel, but then you are totally uncompatible..... like, you think alike, you know what he is thinking and you know the reasons but you can't accept them, neither understand them and you cannot love or hate them, regardless If they are good or bad with you... it's like you wish they (it started as a he, but it's to take the gender out, since in spanish you can doit and that's the way you doit) were here, because you have someone to talk, to a deeper level and they know it, they take advantage of that and you can't to be able to judge them.....

I sometimes wonder why do I make this threads...... and yes sir, what I said is what I think, and it wasn't that clear, but there's no need for em to repeat it! :D
  16. thanks fr your suggestions, but I forgot the cultural factor......... here for babysitting, you don't earn a penny, the same with teaching and I do that for free anyway (not like I am a good teacher!) and fast food things....... well where I live, there are no things like that and ........ the only "big" thing is the supermarket, which I'm not interested in, some contructions companies, and my dad's thing...... and of course he doesn't pay me! :dozey: Thanks anyway! :D
  17. I want to know what Ian's nickname means! Sternly...... Stern is a music conservatory in Germany, where Claudio Arrau, one of the world's most famous pianist, recent, studied. Avatar..... it's Pucón, a town in the south of my country...... made for tourist and where I go skiing :dozey: and my signature it's from Voltaire, and he was a french philosopher and writer..... and well, it speaks by itself :D

I really admire Hicksy because he sort of... doesn't care what they say.... no, bad explained! It's like well, like If he was never here, but he is.... uh, bad explained again! Like he doesn't care making the fool of himself, but then he really doesn't...... a.k.a, like If he didn't knew what he is doing, but he does know........... can't make it any clearer! And Ian because of his patience and Tom Peed cause of his use of language and smartass actitude, which is not really like it "sounds"....... (I never said I was good at explaining!) I was just reading 1948 from George Orwell, and that came to my mind...... and well, I should learn from Hicksy! ah, also Doogie, which uh, I don't know how he is called and exaclty why......... aprt from the fact that he looks like a bear, according to me, and bears are good by nature and ..... well, I guess cause I get the impression he's like..... uh, educated :idea2: I wish I had a little of what I mentioned! (don't ask em to explain it, cause I can't!)
  20. Probably most of you od not remember, but I once said that I was SO happy because a school from Swatziland was sending a vacancy to my country, and of course I want to go there. Well, my parents hated the idea, the said they are not paying it, not there neither in Singapore, India and Hong Kong, which are exactly the places where I want to go, If I can't get into Swatziland. I can't follow that, because... well I just can't, therefore, I'll have to pay it myself, and here it comes the problem....... can somebody give an idea of how to raise funds? I have very little time available, well until summer at least, and... I think I have no skills... I mean skills that you can sell and trade. I just need a few ideas, that's all, because I'm sure they'll end up paying anyway, they always do, If they see we work (siblings & I). I would love your help really and please be original; that's why I asked for imagination!

 That looks to me familiar!!! I think this has been useless.......... anyway, I think it's not THAT bad, since I can talk, and a lot, when someone else stars a conversation....... and I can talk at debates and oral presentations; it's just informal/casual talk what kills me!
  22. Sternly posted a topic in The Lounge
but as time goes by, I find it hard to relate with people....... like everyone I can't even start a simple conversation now...... like, Hi! How are you?..... it's like impossible! It oblyes me to make a huge mental effort to do that....... I bought some chocolates to 2 of my friends and suddenly. when I have to give them, I just couldn't......... like I can't! it's like I'm petrified, but I am not really! it's........ it's weird, and I don't like it, but even If I try, it's bigger than me.... that thing, which I don't know what it is!
  23. For some strange reason, I think that a person who wears contact lenses in not trustfull...... Nothing personal though! :P
