Actually, there was something about the feel of the tape in general that I couldn't help by feel was from you. I feel stupid. :embarrassed: To be fair, when I first listened to your tape, it was late at night, and I never did think to do any double-checking. Here's my review for my tape. I'm going to try to be as concise as possible, as I know I have a bad habit of ranting as I type. :tongue: 1. I know this one! It's "Zorbing" by Stornoway. :cheesy: These guys are just cute; I love them! There's not much more to say about this one. Nice choice! :nice: 2. The beginning is very vague and electronic, before it bursts into this guitar riff. I wasn't a fan of the voice initially, but it has definitely grown on me. It's an acquired taste. THESE GUITARS. THEY'RE SO CATCHY. :bomb: I can't help but move around in my chair as I listen to this song. The voice reminded me slightly of Julian Casablancas, but the more I listen to this, I don't think it's The Strokes. I'm really curious to find out who this is. 3. The guitars at the beginning are slightly off-putting, but that's just due to personal taste. They're a bit too pitch-bendy for me. The song is a lot better when that stops and the vocals come in. The more this track goes, the better it gets. I love the string work on this one. This song, I find, is very summery, but it's not too surf-rock. The balance is nice. 4. Oh, God. :sick: I've tried to be more tolerant of this voice, but I just can't do it. This reminds me of The Tallest Man on Earth in the sense that while the music itself is quite good, I can't listen to it because the vocalist is atrocious, especially after he uses the vocoder or whatever it is near the end. That's honestly the only thing wrong with it, though. I'm actually somewhat picky with vocalists, anyway, if you couldn't tell by my earlier comments. "The sun's so clichéd, just like love and pain." I like that lyric an awful lot. 5. I know this song, too! It's "Shake Me Down" by Cage the Elephant. This is one of the better songs off their album "Thank You, Happy Birthday." I'm not sure how I feel about that album as a whole yet, but thanks to your reminder, I'll definitely give it some more time. The vocalist reminds me a lot of Arctic Monkeys on this song, for whatever reason. 6. This has a distinct drum beat at the beginning, and the guitar entrance completes the introduction of the song. It's interesting to hear male AND female vocals on this song. They actually work rather well together. This is kinda like a hybrid between The XX and Arcade Fire. I don't know. It makes sense in my head. I like this number quite a bit. 7. Ahhhhh! "Land of the Bloody Unknown" by The Middle East. Niiiiice. :cheesy: I just happened to get this album recently. This song is amazing. It has the most tasteful amount of banjo in it. I'm glad you put this one on here. :D 8. The intro is quite cute, with the guitar and whatnot. This makes me happy. This one has female vocals. This song reminds me slightly of a Grace Potter and the Nocturnals song I once heard on TV. Would this happen to be that group? If not, that's cool; I usually have at least a couple of things I like to guess on when it comes to these things. The only thing that bothered me was that pitch bend near the end, right before it returns to the chorus. That didn't make a lot of sense. I like this song a lot. :smiley: 9. This has an ethereal, calm beginning. However, it suddenly erupts into this wall of sound, and it's nice. The vocalist fits it pleasantly well with the music. This reminds me of Cut Copy, but it has extra punch that Cut Copy doesn't have. This song makes me wanna dance so bad. Oh well, why not? :dance: The piano in the latter half of the song is splendid. I really only have two words to sum this up: Thank you. 10. "Ahhh-oooooooh!" :laugh4: That part makes me smile. This track is somewhat like the previous one, but not really; it lacks the power of the previous track, and it seems much more like a dance number to me. It's like if you took Track 9 and Cut Copy together, you might get something like that. I'm not really sure. I don't like it as much as the previous one, but that's only because I love Track 9 that much. This one is quite the track, too. 11. This song is killing me. Why, you ask? I SWEAR TO GOD I'VE HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE, BUT I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT IS. ARGH. I hate it when that happens. This is by an artist that I've either only started listening to recently or have only heard a few songs from. I'm not sure which, BECAUSE I CAN'T REMEMBER. :disappointed: I'm only mad that I don't remember because I like this song. If I hated it, I'd just say, "Ew, no" and be done with it. I need to know what this is. 12. This has pizzicato strings at the beginning, which set the mood. That mood is reinforced by bells (or are they vibes? I can't tell.). This song is so cuuuuute! :blush: The lyrics, the music-everything. It's so precious. I like this one a lot, too. "I think I'm fallin, I think I'm fah-ahhhllin'." Awwwww, it has whistling. :blush: I need to know who is responsible for the preciousness. 13. O RLY? This is an orchestral rendition of "Isles" by Little Comets. I didn't even know this existed. I actually like this better than the original version. The only issue I have is the slight tuning issues in the string section, but that's to be expected with strings, anyway. I learned through String Methods how hard those instruments are to play. I'm not judging. Nice choice. :smiley: 14. The beginning is electronic noise; it reminds me slightly of Animal Collective or something. The guitar comes in, and it's still slightly better. I like the song better when that part drops off and it's just guitar with the occasional "whoosh"-ing of the synths or whatever those are. I felt like there were a bit too much of those for my taste, but that's not a big deal. The vocals are OK; they're not bad, and they fit the mood of the song, so that works. I love the trumpet/sax solos in it. I didn't expect the female vocals, but it was a pleasant edition. I felt like the ending was a bit weird, but oh well. Generally speaking, I like this song. :smiley: 15. I recognize this one as well. It's "Stuck on the Puzzle" by Alex Turner, from his Submarine EP. There's something about this song that makes him sound better. I'm not sure. I love the line, "Something in your magnetism must have pissed them off." :wacky: Overally, I enjoyed this tape. The only one I really didn't like was Track #4. I can't wait to get the tracklisting for this. Oh, and I'm going to try to guess who my mixtape maker was. There's only one person in this exchange who I know for sure likes Little Comets so...

Being the impatient woman I am, I skimmed through my tape. (with the exception of the two files in .m4a) Here's my initial thought process: 1. There were at least two that I recognized, namely the opening track. More on that will come with the official review. 2. Based on the tape content itself, I think I can maybe make an educated guess as to who actually made mine. Again, that'll wait.
