AIKO — guitar harmonics.
Here is an idea if you want it with bass notes, tune your bottom strings to the same as the high strings. Just tune A to B and D to G. And play it like so: E. ———————————7.——— B. — 12.— 7. ———— ——7.—— E. 12. — — — 7.— 12. ———7. G. 12. — — — 7.— 12. ———7. B. — 12.— 7. ———— ——7.—— E. ———————————7.——— This might just work. (Warning: Portuguese message below) So uma dica, tua tablatura ficou de cabeca pra baixo, fica dificil de ler. B e G eh em cia em A e D eh em baixo. Abraco!

Chris Martin Piano- Exactly How He Plays Songs
Anyone knows any tutorials on how to play this version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas? I found coldplaykb's tutorial but it is for the other version which I don't like as much as this one:

MP9000 Sampling
You gotta adjust the levels, you are going in too hot into those plugins (too much volume). - try lowering the pre fx volume of the piano track - both the ssl plugins should go in the mix bus not directly on the track - Adjust the thresholds in the compressors so you don't compress too much, look at the gain reduction meter, I would say not to compress more than 5 to 10 dbs, in this case on the cla-76. - Same for the mix bus SSL compressor, I wouldn't compress more than 3db on that. - If you see a red light on the volume you are clipping and it shouldn't sound very good since this is in a digital environment - For the reverb, its better to create a separate track with just the reverb, leave it at 100% wet and send the piano track signal to that track and adjust the volume of the reverb track for how much reverb you want. Good to learn a bit of mixing on youtube if you get confused with these stuff.

What's that amazing Jonny Buckland Sound?
Just listened to the bloom setting on the Big Sky, that sounds amazing. Wish I had one... maybe one of this days.

What's that amazing Jonny Buckland Sound?
Going back to the volume pedals, actually only one of them is a volume pedal the rest are all expression pedals. Yes, they are Ernie Ball's Volume Pedals but they are being used as expression pedals using a TRS split cable, to control the feedback of the Echo Pro and Eventide. You can see and hear this effect more clearly when he plays Lost and lets the notes ring out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjxuccDgfSA. You can see he uses it during the entire song, when he wants the reverb/delay to ring out longer (and give that amazing ambient sound) and to stop it when he wants to, so it doesnt ring out forever and overlap notes.

What's that amazing Jonny Buckland Sound?
As you can see in this video its just basically random slide hits. With his left hand he mutes the strings, he is not doing any chords its just so when you hit the guitar with the slide it doesn't ring out unwanted strings. He also uses a slow delay with modulation to create that echoing of the birds fading away. I believe he might also be using either a shimmer reverb or the micro pog + reverb. Try out those slide hits for yourself, you'll be impressed with the sounds you come up with, even without any effects on.

Which keyboard does Jonny use?
Or you can go simple and just use a laptop, run ableton or any other daw, and use a simple audio interface to get the output to a PA ;)

Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall Chords
I'm guessing it's both B and E tuned to C#, like in Violet Hill and Life in Technicolor. Not sure though, would have to try and see.

Which keyboard does Jonny use?
Even though the keyboards on stage are all only used as MIDI Controllers, the actual sound from Chris's piano is from the Kawai MP9000. They turned a MP9000 keyboard into a rack unit, and they trigger it through his stage piano. There's a video in here somewhere that shows their rack units for synths and piano sounds. I use the Kawai Ex Pro VST plugin, and it sounds really similar to Chris's sound.

What's that amazing Jonny Buckland Sound?
Yeah, but that's because it's not his style of music, or at least not Coldplay's style, cause he probably like rock music like those as well. Just cause he doesn't have to play it in Coldplay, doesn't mean he can't do it. He probably plays rock guitar solos when he is just chillin at home or practicing.

The DL4 uses 4 batteries, so probably not a good idea to use it with the batteries. I have a One Spot power supply, for my pedalboard, they are cheap and they are great! And the Auto-Volume echo feature works perfectly, it's pretty handy cause you can save this mode in one of the preset switches and just turn it on whenever you need to start swelling. And now I'm sure that Jonny uses it cause I was watching the Live Toronto 2006 yesterday and I could see him turning it on when he starts the swells on Speed of Sound. Yeah POGs are great! Still hope to get one soon or at least a reverb pedal with shimmer mode.

What's that amazing Jonny Buckland Sound?
Yeah you're right. I've seen him doing swells without the volume pedal or knob. He probably uses the Auto-volume Echo mode on one of his Line6 DL4.. Works like a charm :)

What's that amazing Jonny Buckland Sound?
Yep, people think that just because I guy doesn't play huge guitar rock solos, he is bad. But, it's just that rock solos don't fit in this kind of music, it doesn't mean that he can't do it. I'm sure Jonny is able to play big guitar solos, but for this type of music it's not necessary. Jonny makes so many great riffs that just fit the songs perfectly. He is a huge influence for me, love the effects and riffs he comes up with.

Low Guitar Tab
Well this is what I came up with (probably wrong): Mess around with this E 12-12 B 10-12 G X--X and then E X--X--X--X--X--X---12-12 B 12-12-12-12-12-12-10-12 G 12-11-12-14-12-11-X--X Mess around with this again E 12-12 B 10-12 G X--X Was it this solo you were looking for? If it was, hope this is close enough.

Telecaster Deluxe vs Telecaster Thinline
Don't forget about the rack units and the amps, they have a huge influence as well in his tone. I also have this pedals and can get some close tones with them, but not quite the same. For overdrive and distortion he uses mostly his HBE Powerscreamer pedal, that really gives you one step ahead to getting his tone. The 250k pots has less treble than the 500k. That is just a kind of exception appearance of him using the Deluxe. In concert he uses mostly the Thinline, Jazzmaster and now the Nash Strat S57. Well actually depends on the era, he used so many diferent guitars, but the Thinlines are the ones who were always there, and used in most songs. But dude, don't overthink it. Go for the one you feel more into, both will get great results for getting Jonny's tone. I can tell that you really like the Deluxe, so just go for it. I for one would buy a Reverend Jetstream HB Black, cause I just love them. :D

Telecaster Deluxe vs Telecaster Thinline
Humm.. I prefer the looks of the 72' Telecaster Thinline and I have one and can get a tone close to Jonny's in some songs. I don't think Jonny ever used the deluxe one, Chris uses them for more rhythm stuff. The 72' Telecaster Thinline, have more sustain and volume being semi-hollow. I can't tell you which is better but the 72' Telecaster Thinline is just amazing! But if you go for the Deluxe you won't have a bad sounding guitar, just a diferent sounding guitar. Both are great!

What's that amazing Jonny Buckland Sound?
It's a lot of fun to mess around with this effects.. But you have to use a lot of reverb for that, so I recommend getting a good reverb pedal if you wanna dig into it. PS: I wish I had a POG too :P

What's that amazing Jonny Buckland Sound?
Those are drones and swells, for both you need delay (better if you use two different delays with long repeats) and reverb, no need for overdrive but you can add them depending on what you may want. For swells you have to use a volume pedal or the volume knob on your guitar, just put the volume to zero play the chord (don't use too many strings) and lift the volume up and let it sustain. For drones you have to play very lightly with your fingers two our three strings and just keep playing them for as long as you want the note to sustain (recommend using the neck pickup for these). Well.. here is a couple of videos that explains it a lot better: Swells: Drones: Really recommend looking at theses videos if you want to get those sounds. For the Postcards From Far Away (LRLRL) and the Yellow Live 2012 I think he uses the micro POG as well to get that shimmering sound. Have fun! :D

Major Minus Guitar Chords (Chris)
Just to have it on record here is how I believe he plays it: Tuning: EADGGB Verse: B 0--0--0--0--0--0 G 0--0--0--0--0--0 G 0--0--0--0--0--0 D 9-/12-7--7--2--5 A 7-/10-5--9--3--7 E 0--0--7--7--3--5 1st Chorus: B 0--0--0 G 0--0--0 G 12-11-7 D X--X--X A 14-12-9 E 0--10-7 In Jonny 1st palm mute riff Chris plays the Verse again 2nd Chorus B 0--0--0--0--0 G 0--0--0--0--0 G 12-11-7--0--0 D X--X--X--2--5 A 14-12-9--3--7 E 0--10-7--3--5 In Jonny 2nd palm mute riff Chris starts by just strumming the strings doing harmonicas at the 12 fret and then at the second part of the palm mute riff he plays the 1st Chorus again, but the last chord is B 0 G 0 G 9 D X A 10 E 8 instead of B 0 G 0 G 7 D X A 9 E 7 After the palm mute riff it goes back to playing just like the 1st Chorus And I think that's it. It's not 100% correct but it's good enough I guess :)
