Atoms For Peace (Thom Yorke+Flea+others)
Pardon my french, but why the fuck aren't they performing Reverse Running... AT ALL?!? That's my favorite song on the album. Although something blew my mind on the Mexico City setlist... they covered Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give it Up". Holy crap, that was awesome. Considering how Marvin sang that song, Thom's voice is perfect for that. (disregard that they screwed it up and had to start over  ) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWgAZeH20j4]Got to Give It Up (Marvin Gaye cover) - Atoms for Peace - Mexico City - October 9th, 2013 - YouTube[/ame]

The Walking Dead
Really? I didn't notice that. I'll see if the show is On Demand so I can try to watch that part again. If so... that's interesting! On a side note, I forgot to mention earlier that my initial thought when the crazy lady was leading Rick through the woods, was that she was pretending and was actually recruited by the Governor to lure Rick to capture/torture/kill/whatever him. I wasn't expecting she would actually be kinda crazy for real.

The Walking Dead
My initial thought was that the kid got bit at some point, maybe against the fence, but didn't tell anybody about it. If it went airborne, anybody left on the earth would be dead within a month or something, so I don't think that's what is happening. However, the "eye" thing is interesting; I didn't catch on to the potential link between the kid's eye issues and the one walker's eyes initially. There's the chance that the writers just want us to make the curious leaps in our heads. The eye thing could have no connection. The pig thing could just be because the pig wasn't healthy. Nothing more. I suppose we will find out more next week though! Overall I like the episode. Nothing too crazy going on, just enough to set up what's to come.

Small Reminders/Updates & The Coldplay Messenger (feat. Roadie #42!)
Although I suppose from a calendar year perspective it works, it just seems really odd that the song wins this award before the movie itself is even released.

A thank you letter of sorts, from Anthony Hopkins. It turns out even legendary actors sometimes binge-watch an entire series. (Linked from news article.)

Ugh, don't remind me about that. So stressful. Lots of snow in November? That seems a bit early. It will be interesting to see how it actually plays out.

The Walking Dead
In one of the commercials the group was standing around a pile of burning bodies (a pile of people and a separate pile of walkers)... but Daryl wasn't part of the group of people standing. I'm scared. :anxious: I know he was in some of the other commercials, but... if he dies at some point this season I'm gonna go apepoop (along with pretty much every Walking Dead fan out there).

Three women, missing for years, rescued from Cleveland home
Police say ill-fated risky sex act, not suicide may have caused Ariel Castro's death COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A state patrol investigation may shed more light on the possibility that Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro died after an ill-fated attempt to choke himself for a sexual thrill. The probe into the Sept. 3 death of Castro includes evidence that he may have died from autoerotic asphyxiation. An Ohio prisons report on Castro's death released Thursday suggests that possibility, noting his pants and underwear were around his ankles when he was found. The report also says two guards falsified logs documenting the number of times they checked on Castro before he died. Castro, 53, was found hanging from a bedsheet just weeks into a life sentence. He pleaded guilty in August to kidnapping three women off the streets, imprisoning them in his home for a decade and repeatedly raping and beating them. Autoerotic asphyxiation is a sexual act in which people achieve sexual satisfaction while choking themselves into unconsciousness. Castro did not leave a suicide note, a full psychological evaluation had found no sign he was seriously mentally ill or contemplating suicide, and investigators could find no reason he would have taken his own life, according to the report. In fact, the day Castro died, the warden recommended he serve his time apart from the other inmates, an option Castro expressed interest in, the investigation found. The findings were forwarded to the Ohio Highway Patrol "for consideration of the possibility of autoerotic asphyxiation," the report said. The Highway Patrol said it would have no comment pending the release of its own investigation. Franklin County Coroner Jan Gorniak, who classified Castro's death as a suicide last week, said Thursday that her office was never told his pants were down. But she said she stands by her finding of suicide. In Castro's cell, officials found a Bible open to John, Chapters 2 and 3 and pictures of Castro's family arranged "in a poster-board fashion," according to the report. Surveillance video indicates guards did not do at least eight required checks on Castro the afternoon and evening before his death and falsified the logs, according to the report. Two checks were done properly just before Castro died. The report also says staff failed to make sure Castro watched a suicide-prevention video when he first arrived in August. Similar allegations of falsified logs have been made against two other guards in the Aug. 4 suicide of a death row inmate just days before he was to be executed. After release of Thursday's report, the prison system announced that supervisors will conduct random checks at all prisons to make sure guards are doing their rounds. Castro's lawyer brushed off the suggestion of autoerotic asphyxiation and said the prison bears responsibility for his death. The prison guards union accused the state of scapegoating employees instead of dealing with overcrowding and violence behind bars. The prison report also found that an ambulance was significantly late in arriving but that the delay probably didn't affect the outcome. In court, Castro blamed his problems on an addiction to pornography. He described himself as a sex addict and said: "I'm not a monster. I'm sick." link

Four boys found in filthy Denver home, malnourished, spoke in grunts
POLICE: Four boys found in filthy Denver home, malnourished, spoke in grunts DENVER - Four children found living in a Denver home full of flies and cat feces were severely malnourished and could only communicate with each other in grunts, according to an arrest affidavit released Monday. The boys' parents, Wayne Sperling, 66, and Lorinda Bailey, 35, are charged with multiple counts of child abuse. The investigation began when Bailey took her 2-year-old son to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital to be treated for a cut on his forehead on Sept. 29. The child was non-verbal, unwashed, and smelled like cigarette smoke, according to the emergency room doctor. Bailey told the doctor the cut occurred after a fall. The doctor said that explanation was possible, but said additional bruising behind the child's right ear seemed consistent with pinching. Denver Police Officer N. Rocco-McKeel was called to the hospital to investigate and spoke to the doctor and Denver Human Services case worker Jill Perry. The case worker informed the officer that there were three other boys, aged 4, 5 and 6, living in the family's home on 18th Avenue in Denver. Perry requested to have Officer Rocco-McKeel accompany her on a welfare check, according to the affidavit. When they arrived at the apartment, Rocco-McKeel reported a strong odor of a decomposing animal coming from inside. The officer said the "smell became unbearable" as they entered the apartment. The officer could not locate the source of the smell but said it seemed to be coming from a back room that was so full of flies "they were covering every surface." The officer also reported seeing five cats running around and said there was feces on the floor throughout the apartment. The children could only communicate with each other using "infant-like noises," according to Rocco-McKeel. The officer said the children all appeared to be about the same size and he could not determine any age or developmental difference between the three oldest children. Two of the children were wearing nothing but diapers. The boys' mother told investigators she had been living alone in a separate unit of the building for the past two months, but saw the children almost every day. Bailey denied that her children have any developmental delays and stated that they speak to her with no problems. Bailey also stated that she did not think the apartment was unsafe or dirty. The boys' father told investigators that he is their primary caregiver. Sperling stated that he was unemployed and stayed home with the children. None of the children were at school or in any daycare, and Sperling explained that he was "applying to home school" the 6-year-old child. The children "have their own language" but are able to speak to him and their mother, Sperling told police. Sperling said the feces on the floor "looks like human but it's the cats," according to the affidavit. Sperling said he mops the floor frequently but with four boys it is hard to keep clean. The children were placed in protective custody and all four underwent general exams at the hospital on Sept. 29. They were found to be non-verbal, malnourished, and not toilet trained. On Sept. 30, investigators returned to the home and noted that recent attempts had been made to clean the apartment, but the smell of cat urine and feces "was still overwhelming." There was 1-2 inches of cat feces under the bunk bed where the children slept and the floor was soaked with cat urine, according to the affidavit. The floors were covered with dead flies, indicating some type of bug spray had recently been used. Sperling said the flies fill the back room every summer because the cats won't use the litter box. There was a single mattress and a bunk bed set in the room, but neither had sheets or pillows. The affidavit notes that both parents had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child abuse in June 2009. Sperling and Bailey were each charged with four counts of felony child abuse. They remain jailed under $5,000 bonds. Both are due in court Tuesday to hear the charges against them. link

Yeah that's pretty much how us Yanks feel about it too. If October 17th comes and goes without anything being done... this will be unprecedented. I'm having difficulty grasping the concept of all the repercussions.

US begins shutdown amid budget row
That's not what I was referring to when I said "minor detail". I was commenting that the statement in the article/editorial left out the minor [sarcastic] detail (i.e., important detail) that the insurance companies will be also be paying for expenditures associated with the new people, not just collecting money from them. One-sided editorials tend to leave out "minor" details like that. On a side note, or I suppose more to the original topic, it blows my mind that WIC is one of the items that is immediately suspended. Screw the poverty-stricken women and their children, yeah.

US begins shutdown amid budget row
Minor detail... the companies will also have to PAY loads of new medical bills for the people that were previously uninsured. It's not simply new money coming in with nothing going out. I'm not saying that I'm all for this new program; in general, I'm against government intervention in market scenarios. But as it stood before all this, health care wasn't really a "market" per say. The insured weren't only paying for the insured, they were paying for all of the uninsured that couldn't afford to pay for their health care. That's part of what drove up the cost of health care, e.g., the insane costs of procedures here compared to other countries. People shouldn't avoid addressing their health issues for fear of bankrupting themselves and their family.

Sinead O'Connor pens open letter to Miley Cyrus: 'Don't let the music business make a prostitute of
I'm certainly not a fan but I must admit her performances on SNL last night were pretty darn good; one of the best SNL music performances I've seen in a long time. Nice acoustic performance of We Can't Stop. And kudos to being able to poke fun at herself during the show. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC-HXAHUM3o]VMAs Backstage Cold Open - SNL Highlight - YouTube[/ame] I don't think she's handling the Sinead situation in the most mature way, though. The nana-nana-boo-boo method doesn't seem like the best approach.

What does that really have to do with it? Although USPS a monopoly of sorts, it's not funded by the federal government... it's funded by the postage that we buy to send stuff.
