Prince William to marry Kate Middleton (AKA so, this royal wedding...)
In this case it was not your thread, but it doesn't devalue my point as it was a general statement about your presence on the board. I honestly don't see any true benefit you have, especially considering your post count. But like you said, you don't care, so there's no need to reply to this unless you want it to keep going. it's up to you. If I were you (a ****) I'd just quote a tiny piece of this post and reply to that and add a smiley, rather than confronting everything I've said over this and the last page with any form of proper intelligence. Oh, and report the post Markey.

We're Boned (AKA the 2011 Canadian elections)
I agree with that. But on the other hand I don't like the way that non-Buddhist missionaries are not allowed, but Buddhist are. Looks like a monopoly to me. I'd rather it be allowed, but open to criticism and debate, rather than ban them. I'm not for censorship of things that don't infringe upon others. Coercing someone into religion is not good, but allowing one religion a monopoly on it seems a little strange to me, if they see missionaries as bad.

But Mark, I've admitted I'm wrong several times. You have never done so. Not even when you're on someones doorstep ;)

The 8th Mixtape Exchange (Links in first post)
Apologies if somebody else already reviewed the tape given to me, I know I have taken ages. OK, so throughout the mixtape I noticed that I enjoyed quite a lot of the music. It was catchy, happy and quite edgy in places. Track 1 - Animal Collective: I find these hit and miss, but this is one of the ones I prefer. I especially like the bit after the long middle repetitive bit. Long song but a good start :) Track 2 - Liking the music, but I can't get over the voice unfortunately. I don't like the effects on the vocals. As I said though, music is nice, with a little reggae beat in places. Track 3 - Nice intro, and I prefer the vocals. Can't think of what it reminds me of. Not my usual genre but it's fine in the background. Track 4 - More vocoder haha. Nice pop song, but just can't hack those vocals. The music gets very good when it kicks in. Track 5 - Interesting music. Nicely varied, some good layers. Vocals remind me of Kele Okerele, but a tad more desperate in his voice. Track 6 - I'm guessing it's Mew. I could be wrong. It takes all the things I don't like about Sigur Ros and runs with it, so I don't like them. Sorry :( Track 7 - Another nice indie pop song. Track 8 - And again. Upbeat, good music for a playlist. In the verses the vocals are quite distinctive, but in the chorus they become a bit more generic with the progression of melody in his voice. Track 9 - Sounds Scottish! I like the line 'Swim until you can't see land'. The music is quite uplifting in places, like at the end. Track 10 - Sounds a little Beirut with the music. The vocals aren't a million miles off either. I don't think it's them though. Nice break down and introduction of strings. Track 11 - Simplistic but effective music. Edgy vocals, but sounds like a young boy. Track 12 - Interesting start. The most interesting song so far. I like it. Just something missing in the vocals slightly, or maybe not missing, but something in there. Track 13 - The Vaccines. Like a toned down National. Don't do it for me, but definitely not a bad song. The 'come on, come on' gives it a sing-a-long feel, which makes me cringe. Other than that, it seriously isn't a bad song. Just doesn't do much for me. Track 14 - Fleet Foxes. Good band. Feels like the playlist is coming full circle as they remind me of an British Animal Collective (even though they are American :laugh3:) Track 15 - Folky finish. Nice song. Doesn't grab me by the heart, but quite pretty. I like the guitar on it. Overall a very well thought out playlist, nicely ordered (loving the fact it was all one track, so it was easy to listen to as a playlist, and then the recap at the end was a stroke of genius) and flowed well. I thought a lot of the music was very good, and for quite poppy sounding music (for the genres) it's good to see they the bands are thinking about what they are producing and not just throwing out generic musical backing tracks like they have done in the past. There weren't many vocals I could connect to though, unfortunately, although i know a lot of other people will be able to, and that's probably just my stubborness at not being able to overcome certain things haha. Thanks for doing this, and I apologise again for the lateness of my reply. Overall a 7 out of ten, but I think for a lot of people it would reach a 9 :)

We're Boned (AKA the 2011 Canadian elections)
So are they even open to debate about religion? Like if I had the conversations I have on this board with them about religion then it would be illegal? Or is that allowed? Since I would put forward a movement away from religion.

Prince William to marry Kate Middleton (AKA so, this royal wedding...)
With the amount of news stories you've posted you've made it your own Markey. And congratulations in responding properly to my last post. Oh wait no, you just posted a new story without any of your own input. Thank fuck you don't live in China Mark. And as tasteless as this sounds, I bet you'd have fitted in well in a right wing dictatorship, following whatever you were being told.

Osama Bin Laden Is Dead
A thread can survive the odd furore away from the original content. Especially when after most posts I made off topic I requested them to be moved. Threads are like living organisms, but if they stray too far off topic, or stay off topic too long, then things have to be done, providing it's a serious topic to begin with. Is that OK Mark? Nice contribution btw.

Prince William to marry Kate Middleton (AKA so, this royal wedding...)
Well unless you are making all these posts in the Coldplay section, you're keeping them well under the radar. Anyway, may I ask you your opinion on the last article you posted in this thread, since you deemed it worthy to share with us. There must have been something that inspired you to do that, or do you just try and keep your threads going when they die down?

Mark, you've never made a structured post in your life.

Whether you agree with my opinions or not I am able to at least put them forward in a way that isn't simply a pun or a smiley. You on the other hand, don't seem capable of that.

Please suggest a good album that begins with the letter Z
Zeroes QC by Suuns. Zaireeka by Flaming Lips (but unless you like Flaming Lips it's a bad place to start to get into them).

Best Old Band.
Yeah, I ranted quite a lot, it's just I read it that you saw Smiths music as outdated, just because it was old, even though you loved them. I'll say Beatles and Bowie.

Ha, trust the Daily mail to print a nothing story about Gervais. People who camp outside to get a glimpse of people they don't know ARE stupid. How does that make him unpatriotic? Mark, if you aren't going to say anything of worth, post links to something of worth at the very least.

Osama Bin Laden Is Dead
I am waiting to be proved wrong. I am not saying it is certain that he is dead, but it certainly appears so. Until there is proof he is alive, or died in another way to what is being said, then how can you 'believe it is American's trying to shut up Pakistan'? Extremism is not a new thing, it has simply moved away from certain areas and now it is becoming more apparent to you. That does not mean you pass the book and don't get involved. But as you said, you are making some efforts. It is a winnable war. What I believe in is not a set of dogmas which tell me what to do, and also influence those around me in a specific way. I don't force it on other people, I do not have to offer myself to anybody, I just live my life. I believe in many things, like believe that chocolate is tasty, but that does not make it a religion. I think you should look up religion, and also humanism, and see how they differ. Yes, we, or the world, can fight terrorism.

Play along at least a little won't you? I don't think any one is really offended by a difference of opinion here.

Best Old Band.
There is plenty of examples of outdated music. There are several examples of old music which are not outdated. There is plenty of music now which is hollow and obviously won't be timeless. There are examples of music now which will survive the test of time no doubt, although some of these haven't become apparent yet. It's important to not care about when an album came from, but how good it is. There are certain themes you can dislike fro certain eras, but generally speaking, those themes don't run all the way through absolutely everything recorded at that time. I couldn't possibly name one artist here as being the best as they all affect me in different ways since there is such a variety.

Osama Bin Laden Is Dead
To suggest I trust my government is not true, though on this case I am willing to at least entertain their assertions until proven wrong by some clear evidence. I'm not the type to simply dispel something, or say it as fact without offering an explanation for it which is based on reason and logic, rather than childish outbursts. No, I'm quite sure people just expect you (as in Pakistan, i don't expect you to personally go and hunt down these people) to do the right thing, especially when you offer such wise teachings on morality through some of the dogmas you follow. Do continue, I fear you are misguided. 1. If you have indeed not done enough to assist in the capture of bin Laden then yes you do, even if it is simply to clear your name. 2. Yes, you can, as a nation.

Before I respond to the above, I'll just point out I made a few edits to my above post to make it clearer as I didn't read through before posting.

Osama Bin Laden Is Dead
But I point out those extreme circumstances because in so many cases, those people are assisted directly or indirectly by enabling moderate or fringe followers. For example in the Catholic church, much of the money generated from it's followers goes to such negative effects, even in the most recent times. Whether it has been towards preventing condom use (which has only this decade been informally backtracked on), preying on the uneducated and poverty stricken around the world, instead of trying to help them through their struggles, like the equivalent of a lawyer chasing an ambulance except also getting in the way of the paramedics. It isn't just Catholicism of course, it goes across all the major religions. It's a blueprint telling people how to live their lives (but in forceful ways and with great fear of punishment included), and the most modern 'popular' religions, such as Mormonism and Scientology, come under a lot of criticism because of some of their less generally accepted beliefs, yet they aren't any more ridiculous than from other religions. It is simply that it has had time to be ingrained into society that some of the major religions get such an easy ride (and whilst they are often criticised I would say it is fair that generally speaking, they get a very easy ride for many of the atrocities at their feet). Islam, in itself a copy of Christianity in many ways (which has been mentioned, I think in the quote I have quoted below, is in itself nowhere near the first of it's type and was copied in many parts itself), has it's own dogmas, which I think are far more widespread than they are than in Christianity, which does not have the same hold over it's followers as it used to. But something that does not allow their prophet to appear in a cartoon on fear of death, something that certainly does not allow homosexuals almost entirely throughout it's followers, something which forces many who aen't even part of the religion into self censorship, just isn't acceptable in my eyes. I also do not believe from the female Muslim's I have met are viewed as equal to their male counterparts, and this is in a supposedly progressive society. The world has a long way to go to embrace equality, but I see Islam, generally speaking, to be behind most other religions in terms of general living and family life. That is my opinion. I have a lot more learning to do on the subject and will continue to meet people involved in the religion, but at the time of typing, this is how I view it. And just because things happened in the past it does not devalue the amount of trauma it has caused. It's quite insulting to pass it off as 'another time' since even some of the most senior religious figures cling on to the oppressive pasts of their religions. If people don't believe in those things then they should perhaps move to a more personal or spiritual belief system, in which they don't enter in to the support of such a machine (yes, I'll keep using that word), by all means following any holy book they wish providing it doesn't infringe on other peoples freedoms. But once you get a mass of people, even believing different things, supporting one machine, it's so easy to be used in such negative ways, when many of the people don't even need to be entering into such a thing. If this was some other organisaton which said such things then it would be lambasted. Just because it is a religion it does not mean that it should not have to face such criticism. I would never do anything negative towards a pious person who does no harm to others (I wouldn't even do anything negative towards somebody who does infringe on others as I am certainly not the violent type, I'd simply pass it on to somebody else in authority to deal with), but as soon as they start doing that I think they should justify exactly what they do. I debate with pious people all the time and I am friends with many, I put forward my points and if they are still comfortable in their beliefs then fair enough, I leave it. If they are debating with me I shall carry on putting forward my beliefs however, and if they get offended then that is their own problem and they can deal with that in whatever way they will, once again as long as it doesn't infringe on other peoples freedoms. But I have never said somebody can't be religious and I don't actively look to disrupt people's religions, aside from through discussions and attempting to get people to look into exactly what they are supporting, which I think they should be doing anyway. Simply saying let's keep following these books but ignore certain underlying themes and passages isn't good enough in my eyes. If it is out of date and out of touch then surely an update is required at the very least (and I don't mean a Joseph Smith style one). All that the holy books can offer (other than eternal life) can be found in other ways, so pursuing the case of trying to get people to consider this and also pointing out many of the negatives of religion, even in it's more marginalised forms is not extreme atheism in my eyes, it is just trying to have a positive impact, because at the end of the day, I believe organised religion has so much to answer for.
