I think it's the same thing for everyone. But the new year is a landmark in the calendar, and maybe people just "use it", even unconsciously, to do a kind of a balance sheet*, and realize what they need. I don't think anybody would wait a new year to start something, that's just stupid! *found that in Google Trad, is it correct?
