Yeah I can see the advantages of the internet in that respect. From going to university though i've found it much more beneficial to read a whole book, i've found that I learn much more reading the whole book than from looking up the specifics. Like i've found I can get a better overall grasp of the topic if I read the whole book as opposed to an internet article. But that doesn't deny the advantages of the internet for schoolwork.

"If I keep smoking the way I do, I might get high enough to reach heaven BEFORE I die!" That comment was much more interesting and thought-provoking than what anyone else was saying in that thread.

I don't know if you're being serious or not but I think the point of the article is to highlight that people don't have the attention span to read the whole book because the internet offers the easy way out, doing the work for you.
