Then, Texas merged and became a State of the U.S. And France sold it's land to the U.S. after the black/slave revolt in what was then called Saint Dominique and what is now called the Republic of Haiti. That was on Jan 1, 1804 (yep, Haiti celebrated 200 years of independence on Jan 1, and is the oldest black replublic in the world!). The slaves beat the cr!p out of the French first, and then the Brits and Spaniards who tried to capture the island. :lol: :lol: Seeing how it lost its most profitable colony, and lost as the most powerful army of that time, France basically gave up on the New World and sold it's stuff. Not to mention that it needed the money to fight against and keep up with the Brits. :cool: Russia sold Alaska much later, in the 1870s...it was something even Americans didn't want at that time (no idea of oil being there), but they bought it to keep the Russians out, i guess...

yeah. texans...white settlers from the U.S., from the eastern shores of Mississippi. Sam Houston was from Tennessee, for example.
