It's clear: "Paradise" - made for new, not old fans
I wondered earlier in the day whether Paradise might sound better with some decent headphones on. It really does.

Massive overreaction
I don't have any issue with disliking the song as I made clear in the very first sentence of my OP! Some of the reasonings coming out and conspiracy theories are ridiculous, this is the issue.

Massive overreaction
Coldplay have never had any great commercial acclaim, a single #1 in 11 years tells you this. I don't like the song all that much, and would argue with the NME's rather pretentious viewpoint that CP are trying to sound mainstream, when they're putting out Moving to Mars, MM and UATW at the same time. FWIW I'd rather listen to Paradise than Speed of Sound, but personal preference. If you're aiming that at me you completely misread what I was saying.

Massive overreaction
Music is all about opinions, right, I get that, but so much of the stuff I've seen posted about Paradise on here today has been nothing short of BS, essentially accusing the band of selling out and laying claws into Brian Eno. Why? Sure this song is more poppy than the stuff from Parachutes, but so what? Coldplay have changed as a band, 11 years is a long time in music and every band that has been successful for a prolonged period has changed its style along the way. Muse and Radiohead most recently spring to mind, and thank the good lord Coldplay aren't going down the road of attempting acid-jazz like King of Limbs, or playing an almost entirely unheard set to soaked fans at Glastonbury who waited hours for a good position at the Park stage (I'm not bitter...), right? The most glaring error that seems to be taken as a logical conclusion is that mainstream = selling out. I don't believe Coldplay ever set out to be different from the status quo in the same way they're wavering to and from it as they develop. If you think they're trying to be too much like the charts, I present to you Us Against the World & Major Minus and ask if you still have the same view. If you don't like it, fine. I can't honestly believe there is a single person who likes everything Coldplay have ever produced, it doesn't happen. To level personal insults at the band, the record label, large swathes of the music industry & listening public and Brian Eno is way too far and completely unfair. If you're that angry about it I'm sure you'll be ignoring the rest of the singles, album and tour as Coldplay have 'sold out to the mainstream', right? Thought not. edit: to clear up any confusion... I don't have any issue with disliking the song as I made clear in the very first sentence of my OP! Some of the reasonings coming out and conspiracy theories are ridiculous, this is the issue.

Have they lost their minds?
Yup... Doing their own thing, how very dare they.

It's clear: "Paradise" - made for new, not old fans
I knew there was a reason when I first joined why I never posted a great deal. Far too many folk stuck in their narrow minded ways feeling like Coldplay owe them something rather than advancing their own creativity.

New style doesn't mean selling out, that's a massive assumption that's been jumped to by so many people. There's still a great deal of Coldplay in this single, people change & the band's relationships, personalities, and inspirations are an organic process that never remains the same - much like their music. I'm not the biggest fan of Paradise but that doesn't justify moaning that it's crap or the they're doing old fans a disservice or anything like that, I challenge anyone to say they like every Coldplay song made to date.

Hey
I suppose I should retire back into this forum for a minute, kind of went on the posting rampage without any thought for being a n00b. So... hello Coldplaying, I'm Ron, doing a degree at Durham in Civil Engineering when I'm not frequenting the skanky sea-side town of Weston-super-Mare and getting out of town any time T4 rears its ugly head. Been massively into Coldplay for 5-6 years now, saw them at Wembley in '09, incredible gig, and will be seeing them again at Glasto this summer bar some unexpected event, god forbid. May this be the start of a beautiful friendship. :) x

Spotify Sharing
I hope I'm not on my own here, but ever since Spotify entered my life I've been using it to impart 'my wisdom' friends may call it something somewhat different..) on others in the genre of music, and have received likewise in return. I think it'd be cool to get something vaguely along those lines going on here, even if it just turns into a Spotify link-dump thread. Some ratings of other people's links would be nice :) This track is by a band I just got into, the Vaccines, and resonates a bit for me personally, while being an absolute belter of a tune. Enjoy.

The "things I wish I could say" thread
Hey pal, that doesn't sound good. It's not much to say, but what will define you as a person is your strength in adversity. Unfortunately only you can change your situation, but if you come out the other side smelling of roses you know it's all your own doing. That said, if you ever need an ear of a random stranger feel free. --- I wish I could tell you that I like you, and find out whether all of your banter & attention is connected to anything. I wish you'd stop hating me for being the best meaning bloke you will be with for a long time and having the nerve to get pissed at you for slapping me with my own goodwill. Fuck you.

I don't want to die
I used to be terrified of death, but the more I think about it, the more inevitable it has to be. I was watching Inception on a coach yesterday, and had a brief thought about the concept of 'Limbo'; (apologies if you haven't seen it) it's seen as a prison, being stuck down there for the rest of eternity knowing every day you're still going to be alive and you just have to keep going - it'd turn into Groundhog day after a while. Sure, I'm scared of the prospect of dying young for whatever reason, but to me a long (80+ish) and healthy life is plenty enough. Just my thoughts.

What you studying to be?
Studying for a Masters in Civil Engineering... Not as fun as it sounds, and it doesn't sound fun.

Workplace Music
Used to work in an Apple Store where they had a pretty decent mix-tape on, some low key contemporary stuff, including Strawberry Swing... worked pretty well, not a big fan of massive 'beats' hitting you on entering any shop. I'm there to buy stuff, not go to a rave.
