I was discussing this with a friend over the weekend: Is Pop a genre or a quantitative quality? i.e. Radiohead might be "pop" because they are very popular, but they aren't what you'd think of when you say "pop." Like the new Coldplay album is more "poppy" than their older stuff, but they're just as popular as they used to be. And there are indie "power-pop" bands that sound "poppy" but no-one knows about them. Get what I'm saying? Discuss it. Now.
