  1. I don't care about PoC but Coldplay better win live act. The Mylo Xyloto tour really deserves an award.
  2. 1) Coldplay's sound has changed since X&Y. The quantity of options for choosing an upbeat song and release it as a single has increased. 2) Despite the exceptions, up tempo songs dominate the radio. That's why promoters prefer them.
  3. I think Will.I.am or Lady Gaga type of music is art, but they have different purposes. They're pop artists, so they make massive appealing music. They write ordinary lyrics or something trendy with catchy hooks. The magic of a song with these characterestics is that our brains will absorb it easily. If you hate this music, it means it's not of your taste. I really hate some of the top charting music, but also I'm not afraid to say the opposite.
  4. Some people get turned off by simple lyrics. I do get turned off sometimes especially if they are cheesy, but I also get really turned off when artists write word salads too much. edit: So I like how Coldplay keeps it balanced.
  5. Yeah, all of them feel fresh. You have the sensation that they're new bands eventhough they've been making music for years.
  6. I think this is the best thing about coldplay IMO.
  7. I don't expect a Parachutes for LP6. Coldplay have experimented and expanded their sound so much. The days of Coldplay being a cozy alternative band are over. We might still have soft melancholic songs, but it's noticeable that they are focusing on a more massive sound.
  8. Because of how succesful the MX era was in the UK, I think they have more chance of winning a brit than a grammy.
  9. I thought American Idiot was a great album. I prefer listening to The White Stripes or The Hives for post punk though, but I wouldn't like Coldplay to do this kind of music. If they decide to do more rock and less electronic, then something like "Beautiful Day" by U2 or "Love Is Noise" by The Verve would suit them better.
  10. - - - - - I'll take my words back insulting music critics. They do their job, and it's fine that you like reading their reviews. There's nothing wrong with that. I have to admit I get curious about Rolling Stone's or Q magazine's reviews of my favorite albums, so I read them. However, I feel many people take critic's words as fact when they write their verdict on music/art.[/b] .
  11. :o We have similar dreams :o After hearing songs like "Paradise" or "Don't Let It Break Your Heart" I can see coldplay doing songs like "Midnight City" or "Steve McQueen" .....Of course, If LP6 was like parachutes style, I wouldn't mind.
  12. I hear the similarities, but naah
  13. (not sure if this is related to the topic but I guess it is) I've never heard anybody critisize coldplay in my country. They are like one of the most respected bands. If you go to blogs or forums in Spanish, you'll find a lot of people that like radiohead, oasis, and coldplay at the same time. It's totally the opposite in English forums. You post something about coldplay in a radiohead video, and they will eat you alive.
  14. Read this: http://www.gigwise.com/news/36134/coldplay-fan-assaulted-for-singing-their-song I know this is sad :(
  15. Credible songwriting? Is there a type of songwriting that an artist must follow to sound credible? What's the standard?
  16. A post that I read months ago, left me pondering deeply, and it made me come to the conclusion that there's no such thing as bad music or good music. If music is subjective then you can't factually say a song is bad or good. Music critics are just people with great writing skills (good writing skills make everything seem legit) who express their opinion. I say this because I'm very happy to find an article defending my favorite band in this particular and 'genuine' way. I hope there are more articles like this or at least better ones (because some people think this article was not decently written). Anyways, my point is that just as you are able to make a well written article attacking/bashing a band or artist, you can also write a well written article defending that same band or artist aswell. Some may agree with the article, some may disagree, and some may change their opinions, but it's the best evidence of the different tastes in music that we all have. If you think Coldplay is awful or Chris Martin's voice is bad than be aware it's only your opinion, and your opinion may be irrelevant and different to others.
  17. ohh yeah, but I wasn't talking about your post or the article when I used the words 'great writing skills'. I was talking about music critics in general.
  18. I actually thought you were joking (are you?). I thought your comment was a satire of an egocentric elitist with great writing skills, AKA a music critic (Is it?).
  19. I've seen people using these 5 arguments actually. The only one missing is that Coldplay's music is gay. :dozey:
