  1. Which, ironically, is also happening to this thread (being labelled as depressing, that is). Though if it makes new fans happier, I don't think it will last for long and I agree on one thing: there's no reason to be on a band forum if I'm not a fan anymore, and indeed I see a few people have already gone. I've briefly come here to see if I was the only one baffled by the last work(s) and it was nice to see that maybe I'm not that crazy. But other than that, I think it's like beating a dead horse now. They're done for good, life goes on.
  2. It would serve them just right imo. You want to join up with these mainstream mass "phenomena" (meh)? That's what you get.
  3. Nope, never seen them live but looks like that ship has sailed.
  4. Queen - Greatest Hits II
  5. Uhm, I feel completely the opposite. To me this album sounds totally made for the charts, the kind of music 100% made to be played 450 times a day by radios for a few months, but then drops off pretty quickly because it's nothing memorable, really.
  6. Agree with the last few posts. If I try to listen to AHFOD again I even think it's not that bad, but it only lasts 2 songs, then HFTW starts and I just can but turn it off. I've tried, but it all sounds so... insignificant, the single especially. Nothing special, fake electronic instruments (even the claps on HFTW sound fake, lol). Old Coldplay songs have the power to create from nothing a completely different atmosphere, almost ethereal, and bring you to another dimension, now I listen to the new songs and I just don't feel nothing at all. It's not even a pop vs rock problem, I enjoy both genres without problems as long as it's good music. I'm not even that much of a rock fanatic, I'll take one of Coldplay old songs with their powerful melodies over a rock classic with a 1 minute mega-difficult guitar solo. I think the reason of the frustration from many old fans is pretty obvious. And the evident contrast between what they were and what they've become obviously sparks debates. When I see people rating these new songs 9/10 or even 10 (!!!) for example I'm left puzzled. I mean, if you're a new fan who likes this type of music and don't know the earlier albums fair enough, not my cup of tea but each to their own. But if you learned to like Coldplay with masterpieces such as Politik or Trouble or AROBTHH, and put these last works on the same level, the only thing I can think of is... HOW?! I genuinely think this same precise album could have been produced by some other random boyband, but apparently that's what they are now. Maybe they should also change name to Hotplay, as Cold is too sad. Personally I started looking for new bands on Spotify, because I think we're done here, sadly. At least for now. Rant over, sorry. ps: how I wish they published Moses!

Tranne magari AHFOD e Birds a me pare proprio brutto, vuoto, insipido... Pure le lente come Everglow e Amazing Day mi sembrano perlopiù imitazioni mal riuscite dei Coldplay che furono. Di aborti come Hymn e X Marks meglio non parlarne proprio. Che delusione...
  8. I 'knew' them with X&Y so I'm particularly attached to that album, but yeah quality-wise must be AROBTTH.
  9. I'm happy for him/them, really, but I don't get the "Yeah but they've changed" "Yeah but they're happier now" talk to basically justify the music they're making. Yeah, great, but it's still bad music for me.
  10. Ha! True though, most bands usually evolve from an initial phase to a more mature one, Coldplay seem to be doing the exact opposite. It's almost as if Chris is having a midlife crisis so he wants to act "young" and go "yeeeeeeah, wooohooo, ba-boom ba-boom boom!" We can only wait.
  11. Hi all, kind of new here but I've been reading various reviews of the new album. My very short review is that the best (and probably only good) thing of AHFOD is that it makes you realize how good they were once. I loved all the first four albums, X&Y included which I know divides many, but since MX it's been a progressive decline imo. I found myself thinking "Meh, maybe it's just a phase" album after album, but now I'm less and less convinced by that. Before X&Y and VLV I was 100% sure I was going to have another brilliant piece of work from them, now I'm almost terrorised. Tbf they are still capable of making some decent songs: I liked Midnight from GS, now that was experimenting but with style, 2 or 3 from MX, and maybe the first two songs from the last one but overall the standard has dropped massively. So to conclude, I think I can call myself an "Oldplayer" like I learned here, now.
