I totally agree. You're not alone. I used to have this feeling with Viva La Vida too, as it was such a massive hit and atypical of Coldplay. But in the end it's a really good song, especially when you compare it to ETIAW or Paradise. Oh hai. Studying didn't work out. I guess I can't be motivated to do anything at this stage of the term. :(

Totally agreed. But I don't think it's a phase. He's always been like this. The difference is that during the first few years of Coldplay this didn't affect the quality/style of their music. Now it does. And I think this is the direction they will continue to follow. :( @ The people talking about the Japan release: Keep in mind that the stores won't be opened at midnight, or will they? Justin Bieber himself has little or nothing to do with that. Sure, he's talented in a way, but the industry around him is making all the decisions and chooses the kind of music he should make in order for them to fill their pockets. And I don't think selling a lot of records for the sake of it (i.e. money-grabbing) is something that should be respected. And yeah, you're right about Chris. He's polite, but he shouldn't idolise every artist that tops the charts just because they sell many records. There is no correlation between quality of music and commercial success. Chris doesn't know that. He thinks that both are actually the same thing. He's just too naive.

It's not that, it's just that he doesn't realise that Coldplay and Bieber are two different worlds, and I'm not saying they should look down on Bieber, they should just ignore his existence and certainly not compare themselves to him. Bieber is a slave of the music industry grabbing money for them, appealing to teen girls, using cute looks and cheap melodies and other superficial crap. Coldplay are a rock band making music.
