A Sky Full Of Stars!! (Out now - See first post)
Well well wie hebben we hier. I remember you, we seem to agree again, don't we? Let's say I wouldn't have a problem dancing to this at 2 in the morning but I would have a minor problem with my friends then coming up to me and saying "OMG you are a huge Coldplay fan this must be like your favourite song I know it's mine our music tastes are like so similar!!!!!" Well whatever, they're still my friends. :p And this is still Coldplay, I'll let them do what they want. Most people like it, so why not. They don't have to let a handful of grumpy fans decide what they do. At least with Oceans they proved to still be able to do what made me love them so much. A Sky Full Of Stars will not take that away. Sleep has a valid point. They're not selling out, they're just having fun. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see EMI has put them under a little pressure here.

A Sky Full Of Stars!! (Out now - See first post)
Summary: a song that I will probably like at parties (with enough alcohol in my blood), but won't listen to on my own. It's a cool and energetic track that's gonna be great at parties and clubs. For an Avicii track, it's gold. But it's Coldplay. And to be honest, this isn't Coldplay for me, not at all. This is Coldplay being a boring slave playing safe for the music industry. I was so thrilled by Oceans - still am - but with this song they admit that they don't have the balls to release an album without a hook-filled instant club classic that's going to secure their domination of the charts. Anyway, no hard feelings, it's a good, uplifting yet predictable, superficial and bland song. And I know Coldplay like to make music like this nowadays. I'll let them do what they want. They can do whatever they want and Ghost Stories will be a mix of everything they can. It's only my problem that this adds to the identity crisis being a Coldplay fan is for me. You know, like when you say "I'm a Coldplay fan, but the mellow rock band Coldplay, not the floor-filling dance act Coldplay." Am I the only one who feels like this?

I wouldn't say so. X&Y is so stylistically consistent that it is actually the album's biggest flaw. Parachutes also has a striking unity of style, but that doesn't bother me as much. I'd say MX is still more diverse than these two, but I do see what you mean.

It's not about the film, it's Greek mythology. Atlas is the God who literally carries the world on his shoulders. Chris used to be a classic literature student so he's probably glad to write a song about that. I'm not sure if The Hunger Games books or films reference the same mythology, as I haven't read any of the books and have only seen the first film.

It gets better every time I listen to it. It's gone from 7 to 8/10 for me. Too bad I can't edit the poll :p Exactly, couldn't have said it any better.

I don't get why people say it sounds like old Coldplay. If anything, it sounds like new Coldplay. It has the classic sound, buildup and finale of an MX-era song. And those are definitely electric drums near the end. Let's say that's the part I like least. But for the rest, it's a good song. Not fantastic but good. If this were still the MX era, it would be among their best songs of that era.

First of all, not so keen on the lyrics, let's say they are all right at best, but that's something I've known for a month. I really like the beginning and the build-up, but not really what it builds up to (2:27 onwards). This part feels too much like a generic Paradise beat to me. I do love the Jonny guitar picks near the end and the outro. Overall, I'm content because I know it could have been a lot worse if they had stuck to the MX path. It feels like Moving To Mars, only less good. MTM being my favourite song of my least favourite Coldplay era. I gave it a 7/10 rating, which seems like not much compared to the other voters, but it's good. It's all right. Well done Coldplay.

Coldplay will release track "Atlas" from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" soundtrack on 6/8 Sept
I had a dream a few nights ago, that I heard the track and it was shit. It was so bad I figured I wouldn't even bother coming to this forum to say what I think. Then I woke up and realised there was still a week before release. :p I like the editor's notes, especially the word "gauzy". Never heard it before but apparently it means something like "misty". Promising.

Your favourite 5 bands at the moment... in no order are...
Since MX left me disappointed in Coldplay 2 years ago, I discovered a lot of other bands and artists, which has really been a revelation to me. And there's still my old favourites, of course. Let's make it 12 :) The National (arguably my favourite band) Arctic Monkeys Miles Kane The Vaccines (revelation of the decade and also arguably my favourite band) The Black Keys Tame Impala (personal revelation of this year) Modest Mouse Queens of the Stone Age Alt-J Two Door Cinema Club Jake Bugg And let's not forget Coldplay.

Best Coldplay Lyrics Ever
"I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war, if you can tell me something worth fighting for" and "Stood on the edge, tied to the noose, but you came along and you cut me loose" I miss the AROBTTH era when their lyrics were actually meaningful.

Best Coldplay song live?!?!!
A Rush of Blood to the Head, and Spies. Also my favourite songs by Coldplay all the way. Politik, especially as an opener, God Put a Smile, Shiver and Amsterdam deserve an honorable mention. And the ones that I forgot.

Favorite album opener/closer?
Opener: Politik Closer: Amsterdam, or Death and All His Friends/The Escapist, depending on the mood.

Coldplay will release track "Atlas" from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" soundtrack on 6/8 Sept
Typical post-Viva Coldplay lyrics at first sight, I think the "oh" will be a classic "oooh-oooooh-oooooh" again, if you know what I mean. Of course, it's the song that matters, and I'm curious, if not a little excited to hear it. :) I enjoyed the first Hunger Games film by the way, so that will be another good reason to go an see it this fall. There's never been a hiatus by the way, they've always been recording and LP6 should not be too far away.

[9-Sep-2012] Coldplay @ Paralympics Closing Ceremony, London, UK (please post your reviews for Wiki,
Damn I missed it. I thought they were just going to do Princess of China with Rihanna, and maybe Viva or something, but what a surprising set that was! Any chance that I'll find it anywhere later on? Probably not that likely :\

A Rush Of Blood To the Head - 10th Anniversary - August 26, 2012
Didn't mean to make anyone cry here. :\ Anyway, I'm not sure if I'd say disgust, that's what the question mark is for. Maybe borderline disgust. Or let's stick to alienation. :p

Anyone else think X&Y is better than AROBTTH?
I like X&Y because there are only decent to great songs on it, but I think it's too long, the lyrics are a great step back, and too many songs sound alike. But it's definitely an album that deserves to be heard. Also, according to you I must be deaf. :p

A Rush Of Blood To the Head - 10th Anniversary - August 26, 2012
Happy 10th birthday to the best album of all time - or at least - without a doubt the best Coldplay album of the millennium. For some reason I've been looking forward to this day, as if a tenth anniversary means that the album, and the band Coldplay were at that time, would come back to us, revealing all its secrets and taking the atmosphere of those good old days with it. As if it would at least put a brake on the wheels that are taking my former favourite band in a direction of further shallow stardom, a direction towards which I can only feel an increasing alienation. That feeling of alienation - or do I really have to say disgust? - is the reason I stopped following Coldplay from really close by, which fortunately gave me the opportunity to discover a lot of great bands and their music. On a slightly more realistic note, I hope the birthday announcement of the official Coldplay website will bring a nice surprise, like some live footage of a ten-year-old gig (see Parachutes) or maybe an A Rush Of Blood To The Head-styled t-shirt in the shop. In the meantime, the flawless party animal will have another play through the speakers of the stereo system. Taking me from the first perfect note of Politik to the last gorgeous tone of Amsterdam...

The Official Chart New Year’s Update! (Paradise confirmed as the first UK no.1 single of 2012!)
Congratulations Coldplay. But still, if I had a penny for every Coldplay song that's better than Paradise, I could buy an ice cream or two. So I ask myself why it's this song, along with Viva La Vida, out of their entire catalog, that has reached no. 1 in the history of Coldplay. Because they chose it as a single themselves, obviously, since they knew that its catchy nature would be successful. That's why they blessed it with a massive promotional machine (including a great music video). On the other hand, if I had a euro/pound/dollar for every good single that reached no. 1 during the last few years, I'd probably be eating dirt. So I ask myself what's so special about having a number one single. It doesn't say anything about the quality of the song, it's as if there is no correlation whatsoever. But I guess if it makes them happy, I'm happy too. Happy New Year everyone :D:D:D

Paradise Video in comparison to previous CP videos
Love the video. Never watch it because I don't like the song though. However, I do think it compliments the song, it makes it quite a bit more bearable. And it's the first Coldplay video I remember to contain a great dose of humour.

ETIAW vs. Paradise
It's like saying which is their least worst (not counting PoC). So I chose ETIAW. Never thought I would, until September. ETIAW is a steady state dislike and Paradise is still shrinking on me.

Most played MX songs?
According to iTunes. Not counting leak download (used that for less than a week), 3 or so plays in the CD player at home, and occasional live YouTube videos of Hurts Like Heaven and Major Minus (still enjoying those 2 rather much): UWTB 5 AHT/DLIBYH 2 UATW 1 PoC 1 (don't know why) It's been a while.

Car Kids
Agreed. Many people say MX follows the direction they took with Viva, even though I think this is only partly true, that's the reason Viva-era fans will most likely like MX. I'm a somewhat older fan (in terms of fandom) and I really like the Viva album, but not MX. That's why I don't get this "MX naturally follows Viva" type of argument.

Coldplay are recording a new song - could it be this one???
Yeah of course I knew that, but I meant it sounds cool, that's the primary reason I made it my username. Another reason is that its one-letter-code is the first letter of my name. :p Oh, right, I thought it was one of the Car Kids spam threads. So, K'naan. Nah, they shouldn't collaborate with him. In Lost+, their collaboration with Jay-Z didn't add anything to the song.
