I was wondering why there wasn't a thread for 2012 songs - hearing a song from an album or EP might just be the hook that draws people into that musician's discography. Not to mention that there's some good songs worth hearing from otherwise forgettable albums (I'm looking at you Sleigh Bells). Coachella really is the best music festival in the US - it's such an amazing experience! Other music festivals in the US simply don't measure up. I've been fortunate enough to go every year since 2004, the summer before my freshman year of college (edit: actually I missed 2005.... because of exams? I don't remember). I'm really bummed about missing this year's festival although I hear 2nd Weekend Tickets are still available on sites like Stubhub.... might just buy them after all. Really don't want to miss Pulp :awesome:

I think so. If I remember correctly, they showed Arcade Fire + Kanye sets even though they weren't originally listed in the streaming schedule. So I still have hopes for Radiohead :awesome:

You know what, that's probably what I would do. Flying Lotus is an amazing live act and will be playing tracks from the upcoming album. SBTRKT is no slouch either! I haven't seen A$AP live yet but I'm sure it would be great. Besides, I've seen Radiohead roughly 20+ times now so I wouldn't really be missing out.... ..... unless they play The Present Tense :(

If you look at the schedule on the YouTube channel, it says TBA for Saturday night @ 11:05 pm PT. Don't want to falsely get people's hopes up but there's only one act scheduled to start @ 11:05 pm PT and that's none other than Radiohead. Could it be??? :santa2:

I know it's referring to One Direction but I love how it says "Boy Band Alert!" on the left as Thom Yorke does his best Backstreet Boys impression.

I never understood people's fascination with These Are My Twisted Words. It's an ok studio song but it just doesn't work live because it doesn't really go anywhere. Granted, I haven't seen it performed live myself but all the video footage I've seen of that song leaves me utterly bored.

Pointless as all the critics' Top 10 lists at the end of the year? Sure, I'll give you that. But like I said, I love making these lists :) They're easy, they're fun, and they generate a lot of debate/conversation. It also gives people a way to try out new things: someone might watch an episode of Community (the show desperately needs the ratings!) because they saw it's a show critics love and want to see what the fuss is all about. Then mission accomplished! That's why I certainly don't agree with people who argue that reviews + rankings should be disregarded completely. There's plenty of art + films + music that I discovered only because they were recommended to me. Also, I do want to note that these "rankings" aren't completely arbitrary; the shows ranked in the top do reflect the more critically acclaimed shows and the shows in the bottom are critically panned. Now whether you like all the shows at the top is a different story - it's entirely possible that all your favorite programmes are from what I designated Tier 5. Anyway, disagree all you want with my rankings; I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over it. But you're certainly talking about them aren't you? ;)

I hate using the word 'phony' ever since I read The Catcher in the Rye in 6th grade but that's the word that best describes her. Ever since she grew those bangs, it's almost like everyone forgot she was a C-list celebrity and used to look like this: Seriously, she's not funny, she can't sing, she can't act, but a whole generation of young people put her on a pedestal all because of her bangs. :confused: It's like she's Samson - she would be a nobody if she didn't have her bangs.

No, it reflects the critics' ratings of the shows - with a couple exceptions. For example, critics have been absolutely hammering Family Guy, Glee, and The Office this year. Only my sentimental bond (and Ellie Kemper :heart:) to The Office is preventing me from putting the show in Tier 5 (it's been absolutely dreadful this season). Now it's true that humor is subjective and you may not find the shows ranked in Tier 1 funny at all. I guess it's more accurate to say the shows in the top tiers are what you might call a "critic's show" aka TV snobbery. :P This 100% describes the early episodes of the show. I was so annoyed that I actually stopped watching the show after episode 3. It was only when a friend I trust on these type of things said the show got better that I gave it another try.

Don't get me wrong - I used to love HIMYM, Sunny + South Park. The list I made simply reflects the current state of TV. For example, HIMYM was undoubtedly at its peak in seasons 2 + 3. All three shows you mentioned are still good and can bring their 'A' game once in a while but they a) don't match up to their earlier seasons; and/or b) other shows have simply eclipsed it. Believe me, I went into New Girl thinking it would be an abomination of a show, mainly because I actually despise Zooey Deschanel. My mother would probably ask me how can I hate someone I've never even met. But everything Zooey does genuinely irritates me... and it doesn't help that her acting ability is seriously limited. But the recent episodes have actually been funny, mostly because the focus is no longer on Zooey. It was a smart writing decision to focus on the other characters, mainly Schmidt. Is New Girl on the same level as ambitious shows like Community? No. But it has certainly evolved into a quality show and people have certainly noticed, from the Onion's A.V. Club to Paste Magazine. Salon magazine even did a profile on Schmidt as the "archetype of 20-something masculinity." Long story short: if you haven't given the recent episodes a try, I definitely recommend it. It just might change your opinion of the show.

You guys are missing out on one of the best TV comedies right now. The first couple of episodes were average as it focused on the 'adorkability' of Zooey Deschanel's character. The writers wisely stepped away from that for the subsequent episodes and it has surprisingly matured into a very funny show. Schmidt has emerged as the show's breakout character. Because I love making lists, here's roughly the hierarchy of TV sitcoms right now: Tier 1 (amazing): Archer, Community, Louie, Parks and Recreation Tier 2 (good): 30 Rock, Cougar Town, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Happy Endings, New Girl Tier 3 (average): How I Met Your Mother, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Modern Family, South Park Tier 4 (below average): The Big Bang Theory, The Office, Portlandia, The Simpsons, Up All Night Tier 5 (mediocre): American Dad, Family Guy, Glee And shows below Tier 5 are ones you should avoid at all costs - I'm talking about 2 Broke Girls, Two and a Half Men, Whitney, etc.

Really looking forward to hearing these new albums in the coming weeks + months: Actress - R.I.P.
