Really? She was terrible on SNL. Just like all her other live performances and that's starting to become a concern.

What do you expect? Gingrich is desperate and running out of time to get enough supporters to win South Carolina. His big strategy was attacking Romney for his involvement in Bain but that backfired tremendously. It's never a good sign when powerful figures among the GOP base like Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove and Jim DeMint are publicly calling you out. To no surprise, Gingrich has now pulled back some of the punches and admitted he crossed a line with the attacks. All of the backlash would have been worth if it meant a surge of support for Gingrich but at the very most, he picked up a percentage point these past couple of days. He's still second in South Carolina behind Romney. Gingrich knows if he also loses South Carolina to Romney, the GOP primary is effectively over.

It's not exactly independents who win elections - it's more looking at the independents in battleground states and the different demographic breakdowns. For example, Ron Paul could be really popular with independents in California but that state won't go to the GOP anytime soon (unless something drastic happens - like national unemployment hits 15% or something). Don't get me wrong: it's still too early to even say whether or not Romney will get the nomination. For all I know, there could be some baggage that still hasn't come out in light yet. But Ron Paul will never ever win the general election because many of his views are toxic to the general GOP electorate (i.e. foreign policy) and he'll never be able to pull enough independents + disaffected Obama supporters to balance that out. I mean, just look at his pull among the different demographic groups: the coalition Paul built in Iowa is highly unstable. In fact, I guarantee his numbers in upcoming primaries will not even come close to his Iowa numbers. For the record, I do like some of what Ron Paul has to say. But realistically, I know he'll get demolished in a head-to-head matchup against Obama.

Well, the Rasmussen poll I listed is actually reflective of the general populous, not just the registered Republicans. The PPP analysis posted on Jan 4th is even more interesting: they point out that Romney's numbers against Obama are probably being underestimated because of the undecided Republicans. Accounting for these voters would result in a 283-255 Romney win. Don't get me wrong: it's too early to say Romney will definitely be the GOP nominee or that he'll win against Obama. In fact, Obama is in very good shape for reelection: he has 255 electoral votes locked up in states with at least a 5 point average poll lead in 2011. If he can win just one out of Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina that puts him over 270. However, it's simply incorrect to say that Ron Paul represents the best chance of getting rid of Obama. Ron Paul's well-documented low ceiling + fragile coalition would lead to a landslide Obama victory. Of all the GOP candidates, Romney clearly has the best shot of beating Obama.

What makes you say that? As stated before, Ron Paul has an absolute low ceiling of support. His numbers will nowhere be close to what he received in Iowa, the state he had the best chance of winning. Given the nature of Ron Paul's coalition of voters, he would have absolutely no chance of winning the GOP nomination, let alone the general election. Rasmussen polling numbers from January 5th (aka yesterday) show that Romney is the only GOP candidate that would reach Obama's numbers in a head-to-head matchup were the elections to be held today. Just last week, Romney was leading Obama 45% to 39%. He remains the only GOP candidate to lead Obama in more than one survey. Moreover, if we were to somehow assume Ron Paul magically became the GOP nominee, his differentials in battleground states lag behind those of Romney, let alone Obama. The only interesting question right now is whether or not Romney is able to win South Carolina. If he maintains the 10% lead, then the GOP race is over.

If Romney is somehow able to maintain that lead in SC, then the GOP primaries are effectively over. Finally, Rasmussen polling shows Romney as the only GOP candidate that would be in contention with Obama (it's currently 42-42). None of the other GOP candidates are able to equal Obama's support in a head-to-head matchup.

To be completely fair, these two "songs" were for a fashion show. It's not like I would expect something mindblowing for that setting. Now if these songs were from the Atoms for Peace record for example, then it's a different story.

Let's be honest: both are mediocre tracks. If these songs were by someone other than Thom Yorke, they would not get any attention.

I could care less that she used to be Lizzy Grant or that her new 'Lana Del Rey' image was created by the record label.... as long as the songs are good. Video Games remains one of the best songs of 2011 and Blue Jeans isn't bad either. But everything else that I've heard from her upcoming album (Born to Die, Off to the Races, Summertime Sadness, Million Dollar Man, Diet Mountain Dew, Radio, National Anthem + This Is What Makes Us Girls) aren't very good. If I'm being perfectly honest, these songs are mediocre at best. The worrying thing is they make up over 50% of the album. Needlessly to say, my expectations for the album have gone down dramatically since I first heard Video Games + Blue Jeans.

Have you even tried listening to any of the songs/albums the readers picked? Or did you immediately notice the lack of Coldplay and automatically deem the lists to be pretentious? It's ok, be honest.

Just out of curiosity, what would be your inspired list? To be honest, I expected Rolling in the Deep to be #1. The song's pretty good but it was way overplayed. For a while, I couldn't go anywhere without hearing it.

Radiohead in the top 10 of both the Underrated and Overrated lists speaks volumes about the reception of The King of Limbs. Great to see Bloom recognized as the readers' #15 song of the year. The best song on the album and easily in my top 5 Radiohead songs. Definitely appreciate the meditative, spiritual jazz influence of Alice Coltrane. Well-deserved picks for the most overrated album and annoying hit single.
