  1. https://youtu.be/oApzC2WnZkw I can't figure out how to embed. just not quite sharp enough to figure that out haha . :) cheers
  2. I'm about to put up a short cover i did of yellow. i talk about the guitar tuning that chris martin invented (originally used for shiver) and play it. It came out nicely i think/hope.
  3. i actually think Chris Martin suggested it was his daughter apple. that's who i thought it was. but it's a sampled voice in an additive synthesizer.
  4. Yeah, in Logic Pro X, in the new alchemy synthesizer, the preset is called something like "alchemist choir." I was very suprised to realize Coldplay used a preset on a commercial virtual synth. The voice(s) from another's arms are also in there
  5. Here is what the preset in the Alchemy synth sounds like that coldplay used for always in my head. Kind of sounds like a choir singing "what about me." I also did a little remix thing of the albums outro which also uses that patch. Then naked synth patch is there in my dropbox. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6xcbogzmgnelhi1/Always%20in%20my%20head%20synth%20patch.m4a?dl=0 And the outro to the GS album is here on soundcloud. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/project-7 -charlie
  6. If I knew how to directly insert a photo or three into the thread, I could take some phone pics of what the chords look like from the vantage point of the player looking down at the fretboard
  7. I used to sing it, Can't you be the leader now, and someone corrected me and I was like, ahh...yes that is better. I can almost hit the high notes when i play the song shifted down like 5 keys
  8. Even the lyrics. Are you gonna leave me now? Can't you be believing now? it's so good
  9. thanks guys so much. I love playing We Are the People so that probably did seep into this. I think that song is possibly one of the best written songs of all time. no joke. and they aren't even popular in Australia where they're from!
  10. Omnisphere 2 preset 11,478 That's a joke man. Why on earth. To replicate it? It's a pad. I'm sure that the engineer who does some work with them who loves FM synthesis created it from a sine wave Which of the fifteen synths were you talking about. There are some saw blade leads, sound mangled pianos, oscillating pads, so many layers. You'd have more fun doing your own take. How amazing is that patch they made for the opening of the album my god it's gorgeous i do not mean to come across aggressively or arrogantly. i can be arrogant when it comes to things like soft rock, but i'm really pretty nice. sorry if i came across like i was mocking the question. i love there synth layers as well. in all honestly, i think it;s created, just as johny's said about his guitar tones, and they follow the long road of creating and then..they wouldn't even be able to tell you how they arrived where they did. there were five hundred steps all of which were decisions made in the m0ment and not well documented :) cheers man Merged posts - Sparky
  11. Let me know if you guys like this or think it's shit. :) I'm no skillrex mind you. i just chopped up my own cover and added some drum loops stuff https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/whiteshadows-acoustic-remix-1
  12. I use almost all, actually completely all software digital delays. Even live I'll have a laptop for that kind of thing. Running Apple MainStage. It has more virtual pedals than I'd ever need. I like the plugin called Delay Designer that comes with logic and MainStage
  13. live yes. in a recording absolutely not. you could just chop it up and fade into each section or just make sure the initial transient when you pluck the string isn't kept. live would be very difficult to do without a volume pedal. unless you have an extra hand or something, then you could just use the volume knob on the guitar itself. Slides are not easy to use well. I know i can't. I'd have to put in a bunch of hours working on it. You fret the note on the fret bar itself, and palm mute all the strings you don't want to sound (which i find particularly difficult). If i'm ever trying to do a Johnny type sounding guitar, i don't bother with the slide. I just try to get a nice mixture of tone, reverb and of course delays. He must be putting delays on his delays sometimes. Love his stuff sound. To me it's a gigantic part of what makes coldplay sound like coldplay, all bendy and echo-y and melodic
  14. You mean slides right? I think he tends to use metal. I love his playing with a slide. He uses a volume pedal to cut off the transient of a note he's playing and let the sound kind of swell in. He makes some amazing atmospheres with his delays and swells.
  15. here's one. I'm not a very good piano player. i'm self taught and i've only played for a few years. 2 1/2 to be exact. i'm not sure i'm your man for that. This cover of Atlas is probably the best playing I've done. I can play "O" as well. I use piano to write, because my lack of familiarity makes it easier to be creative. I don't know what not to do i suppose. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/atlas-2-2-1
  16. video 2 https://youtu.be/GOUl994YjhU and the I Ran Away tutorial video
  17. haha all good man. I don't even own an amp. just a DI box then into the iMac. most good song writers and musicians other than composers don't read music. I can sight read and i'm sure chris martin can as well. ask me to play an F#6 chord and i'll play it three or four ways for you. i just don't know what the notes would look like on a staff of a treble clef or whatever haha.
  18. Here is video #1 https://youtu.be/yVwdMNuiXUM Also, here is a link to the audio of my cover in higher quality than youtube. you can download free. :) https://www.dropbox.com/s/te0bpxodao0f26w/I%20Ran%20Away.m4a?dl=0
  19. Help. What should I try for as far as time/length? how long should this be? Should i do a couple videos and break it up? if i actually explain this stuff i can't do it properly for a beginner in like 4 minutes ya know?
  20. cool. i'll do that in a few. i like doing that kind of thing. probably cause i like hearing myself talk haha. not a good quality to have! i'll throw it up here when it's done. I have to go out to this storage unit down the street where i record stuff. no internet in there though so i take a little external hard drive back and fourth. I lucked out finding this storage unit. It has like 30 foot ceilings, costs next to nothing, and i get free electricity. sounds like a cathedral in there.
  21. I just had a small idea. Would you guys like me to do a little youtube tutorial about chris martin's style of playing guitar? I could just use this song as the example and maybe throw in Yellow quickly or square one or something. He has very much influenced how i tend to play and he is quite unconventional. The way he plays is brilliant, however, and i could explain why it's such a significant contribution to how use rhythm guitar more creatively and more musically. It seems like something that fits the idea of "the instrument room" quite well haha. I'm very much a geek when it comes to things like unique chord voicings
  22. Yeah i'd be happy to. I just, um, i dunno, I was lucky that the guitar teacher i had as a young child was very much about developing my ear. This song was quite straight forward for me to work out. I had it within one listen. Is E-Guitar an app or site or something or you just mean a you tube video about how i played it. (I play the electric guitar and acoustic exactly the same unless of course, you're asking about johnny's part, but if we're talking chords, that's fine, and i just think of a guitar as a guitar usually. same thing) :)
