The Problem with Viva la Vida
OMG, dont kill me, but do you know what this song sounds like? It sounds like something Enya would come up with! Which isnt a bad thing, I love Enya. It's Enya with more oomph. *hides behind sofa*

Best Title Track?
AROBTTH is definitely their bestest, most strong song out of all the albums, so yeah, that one gets my vote. :)

Viva la Vida (song) = Beautiful...?
HOW THE... WHERE HAVE I BEEN??!? More new stuff!!! This song is just lovely. Scrumptuous. Mmmph. I just finished my 19th Century Lit exam 3 days ago, and somehow this song just reminds me of that era... Lovely. :)

WHAT IF COLDPLAY never existed!?
This sounds completely pathetic, but if Coldplay never existed.... I probably would've never got together with my boyfriend! Yup, Coldplay totally brought us together, since our first heated conversation that stimulated my senses was about Coldplay and their fabulous music and my lust for Chris Martin, lol! Yeah, my boyfriend was the first ever guy in my country who I met, who is as nearly as big a fan of Coldplay as I am. Hahah! :)

How many Coldplay songs do you have on your computer?
140! I thought that was a lot until I stumbled upon this thread! Well mine includes the three albums, B-sides, Live recordings from concerts, gigs, and radio performances, Glastonbury 2005 videos, Live8 vids, official singles vids... DAMNIT I went looking around for the Live2003 Dvd and it turns out they dont sell that anymore over here in Malaysia... :( They do, but it comes packaged with the three albums, and I think its a waste if I have to pay a lot to buy the whole 3 albums again... Sheesh.

The Official Exam Thread
Ew, exams, gross!!! I've got a paper tomorrow, actually. I'm supposed to be studying 19th Century English Lit, for goodness sake, but you know what its like during the final stretch of the exams period. You just kinda lose interest and motivation and adopt a 'ah who cares' attitude. Which is awful, really, but AKH WHO CARES!!! lol.

You can HEAR A Spell A Rebel Yell
oooOOoooh... Its definitely different from anything they've done before, and it sounds very... synth-filled... Could they finally be stepping out of their comfort zone? That would be amazing. Yeah, I agree that it sounds like U2, only cuz he's singing in a Bono-ush voice... I cant judge about the goodness of the song, though, I'll have to hear the whole thing. :)

Violet hill sound like that OC song!!
No no non! You know what it really sounds like? Ever heard The Killers' Uncle Johnny? Yeah. It sounds like THAT! Who's with me?

My interpretation/meaning of Violet Hill
Oh yeah, and the priests holding the bibles hollowed out to fit their bibles, and holding the cross aloft reminds me somewhat of the hyprocrisy of the Church during the Crusades, in which they used religion as an excuse for starting wars... They didnt hold rifles at the time, of course, but their excuse for the war was peace and love for God... Kind of like William Blake's view of religious authority, how they show an image of piety when in fact they're hiding a more dark side of them-- the greedy, power-hungry, warmongering side. :D

My interpretation/meaning of Violet Hill
always think I come up with the most farfetched theories compared to my classmates when it comes to analysing poems, which I suppose is similiar to lyric analysis... :D, so here goes... I agree with the OP on most parts, especially how the song is divided into parts -- the beginning, with the pre-war situation, leading up to the second part where the persona has joined the war. The bit at the end though... Noticed he actually says, 'why did you let me go?' instead of the repetitive 'wont you let me go?' It indicates how the 'soldier' persona regrets the fact that he joined the war... Then the final verse sort of reflects the first verse, in that the piano comes in once again, reflecting how the persona is looking back into the past again, before he went off to war, almost as if he's suffering from this sort of psychological conflict, always regretting the fact that his love never answered him... Yes, and I agree with the BAM BAM BAM of the beat... It almost reminds me of marching soldiers, too... This song is awesome, lyrically and structurally. :) I dunno if I made sense, cuz I'm listening to music while I write this, and I can never make proper sense when I'm listening to loud music! :laugh3:

Little things that annoy you
I absolutely HATE when: - People exhale cigarette smoke all over my face - My butt feels really itchy and I'm in a public place. - There's a piece of stray hair in my mouth. Especially when I'm eating. - There's a giant pus-filled spot on the most unflattering places on my face. Like right between my eyebrows or just at the side of my nose.

Mistakes in Violet Hill
Oh my heck, what annoying comments to make! Every single thing you wrote there isn't relevant! The 'lie low' bit he sang which SOUNDED off key, was, I'm sure, intentionally sang that way to add a bit of variety to the tune, as being repetitive is predictable and can get boring. He sings it on the exact note when he says 'unfolds', too, which makes it symmetrical, so it's not sloppily out of key at all. Same thing with the 'priest' coming in a bit early than expected. It's all to add variety. You can't expect a song to be a perfectly trimmed hedge. I'm doing a degree in literature, and I know exactly what it snobbery in arts is like, and that is snobbery, to be frank. There is no correct way that a song should sang or written, just like there's no strict rules about how a poem should be written. Sometimes you gotta rebel a bit and make your own rules. If the imperfections in Violet Hill were unintentional, then I'm sure Coldplay and Eno or anyone else working on the record would've done something about it, because frankly, they weren't that difficult to spot, even if you're untrained.

Violet Hill Lyrics
It's definitely rifles. Rifles is a type of gun. Like a shotgun... :)
