I noticed that it seems like that a few bands seem to be thrown into a category of this, like the Strokes, Vines, and the Hives I think, too. Jet maybe? Any other good ones? The Strokes are about as good an example as you can get of a garage rock band. They tend to record their songs live in the studio with just one take, without any overdubs (except maybe the vocals). That's just about as raw a sound as you're going to get Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are another garage band which instantly springs to mind.
