Coldplay X &Y Review in Rolling Stone

Featured Replies

Coldplay only recieved three stars from Rolling Stone's Reviewer! HMPH! I was also saddened that they didn't make the cover...that honor belongs to the Dave Matthews Band. Anyone else shocked?! I seriously thought that they would get at least four stars, maybe even four and a half!

Check it out for yourselves...

To be honest, I'm not shocked at all. Not that the album isn't good, but face it, evey good band goes through the same cycle. The third album is the most challenging, despite what every always says about the 2nd one. I honestly didn't expect much out of X & Y because of what happened to my other favorite bands, Oasis and The Cranberries, on their 3rd album. I expected it to be a dissappointment. I think the first half of X&Y, up until Speed of Sound, is great. After that, I'm not sure whether I like it or not. I knew when I heard Speed of Sound that the album wasn't going to be "Ok Computer", I mean, that only comes around once in a blue moon. I'm not trying to be negative or anything, just accepting what is happening. Chris was right when he said that everyone was gonna trash the third album. It's just the way it goes. If it isn't a masterpiece by this stage, it's going to look plain horrible (even though it isn't).

No big deal. No matter what you might think of X&Y, they have many more albums to come.

Mojo has given X and Y 3 stars as well, so has The Guardian.

I cant believe they gave X&Y only 3 stars!!! It is rare you can listen to an album and like every song on it and this is one of those...yet The Rolling Stone gives it only 3 stars? For them to give the new White Stripes album 4 1/2 stars something is wrong. They obviously dont appreciate good music when they see it. Not to mention Dave Matthews new CD was given 3 1/2 stars!!! I know plenty of Matthews' fans and they all hate the CD. LOL

Well, NME gave it 5 stars and thats the best magazine in the world so there!

(Oh, and so did Q, the second best magazine)

One thing about that article's true though... "maybe 50 Cent made off with a little bit of his style and grace".   'Tis true, nothing sounds easy on this album (unlike the previous 2 albums) - I do feel a little sad about that.

What a hack journalist review...This is an incredible album period, and X&Y demands more than a few minutes of time invested to listen which clearly this reviewer for RollingStone is all she had to spare, did she not listen to the title track for God's sake, twisted logic or any number of songs on this album...as well as taking the lyrics for the songs way too literally to boot...If you're not going to be informed before writing your article than don't write one at all because your cheating yourself by looking misinformed as this wannabe wants to be and misleading the public...Then again RollingStone kinda lost it a long time ago i.e. they don't any longer help to shape or form popular culture as whole just regurgitating the accepted of the day (see their cover, Dave Matthews). I give this chicks review minus 2 and a half stars...

I agree, the album does need a few listens and it begins to grow on you (although I loved it from the first moment I heard it...it continues to get better with each listen).

Ah, well, who needs Rolling Stone magazine anyway! I give the album 5/5!

Well' date=' NME gave it 5 stars and thats the best magazine in the world so there![/quote']

     please, the NME just rate what the hype warrents at the time, then re-review it a few month later.
