June 6, 200521 yr Like many a Coldplay fan, I went to my local virgin (ahem...) to buy a copy of X&Y with a limited edition poster. One happy bunny i am. However... I can't help but think there's something fishy going on... How come, prior to release, this was the worlds most heavily guarded album and most of the publicity that surrounded X&Y was around the fact critics had to listen to it in a glassed up Ipod with a security guard behind him.. And yet, it arrives on the shelves today without a security tag, OR copyright protection without plastic wrapping etc... Oasis have pasted every single phonebox in west london with HEEEEYYY LYLA!!! yet Coldplay have invested little publicity (compared to Oasis) except for the odd 'Speed of Sound' poster. It seems like the 'security' hype around this album has given Coldplay all the publicity they could possibly get. Please, feel free to disagree with me. The album is incredible, just thought i'd reiterate common opinion. Ric
June 6, 200521 yr Not a conspiracy...they just didn't want the album to leak and since we're all used to an album leaking like 3 months before it's release, it causes attention. A lot of artist use the glassed-in iPods things, they just leak earlier somehow and some other way. Coldplay's album was given more attention to though...Gorillaz's Demon Days leaked hella early while Coldplay's didn't! I'd be pissed if I were them..
June 6, 200521 yr ^^well... given the fact that they're on the same label...... they SHOULD be mad....:P
June 7, 200521 yr Actually I think the fact that one of the most popular bands in the world is releasing a new album sort of generates its own publicity. :P
June 7, 200521 yr coldplay has made his own history... they have their own weight.. so they don´t need publicity... besides chris is amrreid to a famous actress...
June 7, 200521 yr i was about to say that dearest aldeana... coldplay doesnt need mass advertisment....their early gigs serve as good advertising...and their music is their best ad.
June 7, 200521 yr Author Well Oasis are also undergoing a mass stadium tour as are U2, i'd consider them bigger than Coldplay, simply because of their reputation (not because of their music) and i've seen a damn sight more publicity on their behalf than Coldplay. However, what you say is food for thought.
