Does anyone know anything about turntables?

I have one and would love to use it, but what I don't know is how to set it up. My turntable has two wires, one that says "L" and one that says "R" for left and right. What my question is, is do can I plug those two cords directly into speakers? or do I HAVE to go through a reciever?

Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried just plugging it into the speakers?

If it has the R+L holes in the back, It probably means there is some kind of amp inside teh turntable, You would just need speakers with a volume control to obvious, do the volume

Don't quote me on this but you probably will need a receiver because I've never seen a turntable with an amp inside it before that wasn't part of a whole big turntable/cassette/radio combo thing. So unless it has all that you'll probably need a receiver. You don't plug cords into speakers, speakers have cords themselves that you plug into a receiver.

Thank you! I checked my mom's speakers and they plug into a reciever! It loooks like I will need a reciever after all...sigh... more money... Thanks for your help!
