Communism sounds crap in theory as it is in practice. BTW The Bush administration didnt change the names of fries.

Your problem in america is not the republicans it is the media, 7 minute segments discussing issues that miss the point. A media which constantly has to remind its viewers about what is american. I was watching Fox news the other day (and other ones before i might add) and your quality of analysis is RUBBISH. Your news is sound-bites and entertainment, it is delivered a break-neck speed as this is what the viewers want. You as a public do not want questions left open, you do not want to have to deal with complex problems. You want to know where you should stand rather than deciding yourself. News companys never sit down and discuss both sides of an issue, they have the god awful segments and most of that is explaining what the issue is about. You also have a incredibly biased media on both sides.

You need to get a in-depth news source, one that does not treat you like you were born yesterday. One that doesn't shy away from complex problems (or admitting that issues are complex), and seeks to inform rather than decide. It is happing here too, and It is down to the anger people want to feel for a certain side or group. It is also down to a society were smart people are meant to feel ashamed about their ability, where 'plain-spoken' is better than someone who can engage with the issues and the complex problems that they represent.

Calling bush names, or the right names is just as bad as them calling anyone who is pro-choice 'baby killers'. We all need more mature debate where there is equal respect, not always agreement as that is a good thing and ensures the minority opinion is heard, it provides opposition to keep those in power honest. But with a better way of handling debate and news we can actually make progress.

i totally agree.

If you know where to look it can be ok. BBC tends to have good coverage and analysis, especially Newnight! Newsnight has around 20 mins for each of there 3 main issues! Reporting, and a lot of analysis and interviews (always from both sides)

BBC is very good generally.

have you watched Canadians news? Australian?

Do you speak other languages that let you watch other country's news?

Seems like a pretty ignorant thing to say that all news is crap.

ive seen news from many country's, but its pretty easy to say. not ignorant. but the truth is news in many country's is run by goverments who spin the news to their liking, its all biased and polticaly motivated. not all but most is. its ignorant to say otherwise.

it would be ignorant to believe otherwise. specialy with modern day news alot it being controlled by goverment or coporations or political groups.

BTW The Bush administration didnt change the names of fries.

Here's an article about it. It was supported by Bush's cronies in congress. That makes his administration guilty.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The cafeteria menus in the three House office buildings changed the name of "french fries" to "freedom fries," in a culinary rebuke of France stemming from anger over the country's refusal to support the U.S. position on Iraq.

Ditto for "french toast," which will be known as "freedom toast."

The name changes were spearheaded by two Republican lawmakers who held a news conference Tuesday to make the name changes official on the menus.

Across the country, some private restaurants have done the same.

"This action today is a small, but symbolic effort to show the strong displeasure of many on Capitol Hill with the actions of our so-called ally, France," said Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, the chairman of the Committee on House Administration.

Ney, whose committee has authority over the House cafeterias, directed the change, after colleague Walter Jones, R-North Carolina, circulated a letter suggesting such a move. Jones said he was following the example of a local restaurant owner in his North Carolina district.

"I represent a district with multiple military bases that have deployed thousands of troops," Jones said in a statement. "As I've watched these men and women wave good-bye to their loved ones, I am reminded of the deep love they have for the freedom of this nation and their desire to fight for the freedom of those who are oppressed overseas. Watching France's self -serving politics of passive aggression in this effort has discouraged me more than I can say."

The name change was criticized by one young man in a House cafeteria.

"That's completely ludicrous to me," he said.

France has pressed the United Nations to give weapons inspectors more time in Iraq, saying the U.S. and British-led move to war is premature.

Its stance has angered some U.S. lawmakers.

Rep. Jim Saxton, R-New Jersey, has introduced legislation in the House that would block any French company from receiving U.S. government aid or financing in any reconstruction of Iraq. Another measure discourages American tourists, businesses and the government from participating in the 2003 Paris Air show.

But House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, said he didn't think Congress needed to take any formal steps to signal its disapproval of France.

"I don't think we have to retaliate against France," he said. "They have isolated themselves. They have resigned from any responsibility for the war on terror."

Asked why he was focusing on France when other nations, including Germany and Russia, oppose the U.S. position on Iraq, Jones said it was because France had taken the lead in challenging the United States.

Officials with the French Embassy in Washington could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.

umm al jazeera is one of hte most extremist biased news organizations in the world. but thats ok for people i guess. as long as it isnt pro american...

i agree that communism is good in theory-----i wish every american had a place to live in---had a job---had free health care---basic needs for survival

i agree that media sucks in america----its all controlled by republican party---therefore they only show biased news----and like ive always said--entertainment has always been more important than actual news---that sucks---i like bbc news

cant say much about other worlds news but from what i have heard---america is one of the worst when comes to media

and i voted "i take issues as they come" although most of the time i find myself going against bush and republican party

:P
