But I thought in England you can choose the subject, in which you wanna do an A Level and we have to do an exam in every subject?

Hm... I don't really know, how's it going on in England - in Germany you've to choose 4 subjects for exam but nearly every subject you have counts for the abitur. However, this system is soo complicated here, noone understands this! Even the teachers don't.

Our system isn't difficult. You can't choose anything, you have an exam in every subject. That makes it so difficult, we have oral tests in French and Spanish.

Do you have to have oral tests in french and spanish? That would kill me. We have to have one oral test for the abitur and you can (theoretically) choose a subject you like (I took "economics and politics") but an oral test in a language would have killed me.

Yeah, I would never choose this, it's horrible. We have to read books in which I normally don't understand two words in a line.

 

I already had an oral test in Biology and Economics. I would be so glad if we could take that again instead of languages. I had a 6 in my Matura in Economics and a 4 in Biology. (1= worst mark, 6= best mark)

I had an 4 (in your mark-system) in my oral economics-exam. I was kinda nervous, but afterwards it could have been pretty easy, but well... at least I did it well, that's enough :-)

I always was interested in that subject, so... I actually have to be pretty good in that, because I will have it in my first year at Uni as well.

Yeah, I understand. I'm not really interested in these things (the main topic was theoretical approaches for the relationship human<->media) but I had to choose between economics & politics, history, geographics, german and ancient greek to be my oral exam. So I took that one, I thought I'm best in =)

I would have chosen that one too. It was always my favourite subject, (beside sports) I'm pretty good in German, but I think it's extremely boring.

 

You have finished school, right? Have you already started studying?

Yeah, I finished school this year, but I didn't start studying - I would have, but I have to do my civilian service. If you don't know that, here in Germany every man aged 17 or 18 gets checked by a military doctor and if the doctor thinks, the guy is suitable, he has to got to the military after school for 9 months. But if you don't want to got to the military, you have to do a job in a social-company like old people's home or so - that's civilian service.

 

It's pretty unfair since I'll finish my civilian service in mid of june next year so I have to wait for the winter-semestres to start. Again 3 months of doing nothing *sigh*

In Switzerland man have to do the RS (Rekrutenschule) which takes about three months. You can start yor studies in summer here, but you are a few weeks too late.

 

I will have three months holidays next summer (which I think is a great thing) I would love to go to a foreign country, if possible England and work and travel there and then start studying.

Yeah, I just had 3 months freetime, it was really great, because most of my friends had that too! But next year I'm the only one and that will be veeery boring... Yeah, work & travel - the girl-friend of one of my best friends goes to australia in a few hours to work & travel there... I'd love to do that, too, but I simply have no time :-(

 

Maybe I'm going to the USA with a friend of mine when I have my three months off - hopefully I'll have the money for that then ;-)

Yeah, money will be my problem too, but I hope I can do it. Many people of our school want to go travelling a whole year, so they probably won't be there then.
