A U.S. judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Canadian citizen who was arrested by U.S. authorities at a New York airport and sent to Syria for interrogation as a suspected member of al Qaeda.

The Syrian-born man's lawyers vowed to challenge the ruling, saying their client was denied due process during his 13-day detention the United States and sent to Syria, where he was held for 10 months, tortured and interrogated.

The lawsuit was filed by Maher Arar, who was stopped while changing planes at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport in September 2002. He was released in 2003 and no criminal charges were filed against him by Syria or the United States.
