Coldplay sounds like flowers!

Featured Replies

First of all I have to say that I was not sure where to post this topic!

I could have posted it in world of music,Coldplay section or here!So I decided to post it here.

And another thing I was to say before I begin is that this thread will be AGAIN about Coldplay and Radiohead.I'm sorry,I know on thousands boards there is this discussion with comparing them and not comparing them, but I don't think I will "compare" them now!

I only had this idea for this thread because the last weeks I realised something.

I began listening to Radiohead and I never listened to them before! My sis always said:"Oh no Radiohead! They are bad and their music is strange!"

Actually she didn't even know a song by them.

I was a bit influenced by her,but then I thought "let's buy an album and I'll see what happens!"

So I bought OK Computer first!

And I was amazed ,really amazed.

I was a bit disappointed that I listend only to Coldplay the whole day, before!

And then I stopped listening to Coldplay for a long time!

A week ago I listened to Coldplay again and more intensive as the weeks before.

And I bought "Kid A" by Radiohead!

I listened to this album and was first everything else than amazed.

OK Computer catched me from the first minute and now I was a bit disappointed because "Kid A" was so different from OKC which is actually a good thing).

But now to the point I actually wanted to hint at in this thread.

So yesterday evening I went to my room and had to do some homework. The last I have been happy and felt really good, but yesterday there was again this point I didn't really know how to feel.I didn't know if I should be happy, sad, depressive or

whatever.

So I sat there and thought :"Which music should you choose now?" (I need music for my mood etc...)

Finally I chose "Kid A" because I had a hope that I maybe will "make friends" with this album!

Ok,so I listened to the first songs and thought about this and that!

And then I came to the 4th song.

I couldn't understand all of the text,just:"I'm not here,this isn't happening,I'm not here,I'm not here!"

I was like "shit, shit, shit" and I said this to myself.

Before I thought exactly things like,what's this?Where am I?Why am I here?Am I even here?etc....

because I hadn't listened to tis album much before I didn't know what the songs are called!

So I looked it up on the cover.

"How to disappear completely"

And this was the point I was somehow speechless.

It was exactly how I felt.

And this made me think, about my Coldplay obsession before, about it now etc....

I realised that Coldplay songs are more like:"I love you,I miss you,do you feel sad?,I will come and fix you!....."

They are more like....hmmm....I first thought of flowers.

They are more cheering up but not as real as Radiohead

Coldplay are for me like: :cheesy::daisy:

Radiohead like: :blank::thinking:

And this actually the thing that was getting on my nerves about Coldplay.

When I feel down or strange,it's most of the time (at the moment) NOT because of love or things like that!

I can identify MORE with Radiohead then than with Coldplay!

I also realised this at another forum from my class.

I didn't know what to write into my sig,so I thought about Radiohead songs and every line I thought of,was ok for me to quote in my sig. This would never have happened with Coldplay songs, because I feel as if they won't fit to me as the Radiohead songs!

And another thing I realised was that I somehow could not imagine to play a Radiohead song in a big venue. With Coldplay i can imagine it!

And the last thing i want to get rid of is that Radiohead seem to experiment more.

For example the brass instruments in "National anthem!

So,to come to an end.I'm sorry that I somehow draw a comparison now although I didn't want to.

Another thing is that this thread is just about how I feel about it.

Maybe you think the same or not.But it's everyone's own opinion of course!

And don't ask me why I created this thread!

I thought about it the whole time, because I wanted to get behind it.And it#s made out of a feeling and in this section we often talk about feelings,or not?

Thanks for listening!

Cheers

Julia

P.S.:I'm sorry but this seems to be damn long now!

Oh and this is NOT a negative thread AGAINST Coldplay!I still like them of course!

i bet Radiohead's "Last Flowers Till The Hospital" is about Coldplay :P

Coldplay are depressing too btw :snobby:

  • Author

I don't know this.....

I only could have created this from what I know!

about comparison...few Coldplay songs similar to Radiohead's but you can't sompare them to RH. especially lyrically there are big differences between them. and i don't think that CP would try to do an album like Kid A or Amnesiac like RH did. that would be too big change for Chris and Co. they're not ready yet to change their music style completely

a big part of Coldplay songs is about love, Radiohead's about everything else... :idea2:

and don't forget that Radiohead's music is SEEEEEEEEEXY!

  • Author

This is what I wanted to hint at.....

at the big difference,so actually it was NO comparison!

Radiohead's songs are not only about depression,"let downs" and same boredness...

they are sexy! the songs...some of them...

  • Author

I didn't say that they are all depressing (how can I?When I don't know a lot...)

but for me they sound more real....

and I agree that I can't imagine Coldplay doing an album like Kid A....nope....this is definitely NOT thier style, and actually they shouldn't because they have their own style, although it is often said they are like Radiohead!

I used to like Radiohead (especially 'The Bends') but since I listened to 'OK Computer' I find their music-style too weird for me. I mean, intelligent lyrics and 'realness' might be great, but as long as they don't package that in (to me) nice music I have no interest.

Pink Floyd did an awesome job in mixing extremely timeless and intelligent lyrics with great (psychedelic) rock-music (remember 'Wish You Were Here' or 'The Wall'?). Radiohead did that job quite good in 'The Bends' but the other albums I listened to were musically quite bad in my opinion.

So personally I prefer the lovely sounds of Coldplay's light-lyrics-songs, but that might be just my meaningless and humble opinion.

no! Muse are like Radiohead, Coldplay are Coldplay! :smug2:

they both sound real, Radiohead songs are just more personal and deeper, but i guess you wouldn't play them at weddings for example. they are too dark, heavy and not for the biggest part of auditory.

^

NOT RADIO FRIENDLY

That's why I tried to hint to the point many times that it is like that for ME for my situation!

I'm NOT in a relationship....so why should I listen to songs then which are like "I miss you, come back,I love you"

I can identify more with Radiohead at the moment....in general I wouldn't say that Coldplay lyrics are shit or something like that!

But most of them don't have a meaning for me at the moment!

they're not bad, they're just different ;)

The Bends was a good one, but make another "the bends with some similar tones" would be more than boring...at least for me but i think for Radiohead as well;)

Well, I wouldn't demand a "bends with different tone-scales" but more likely an "OK Computer without all that freaking electronic-shit" ;)

well, shit happens  no,i mean you're not in Coldplay mood atm, i wasn't either some weeks ago, but their songs always have meanings :P

under "you" i meant generally ;)

Well' date=' I wouldn't demand a "bends with different tone-scales" but more likely an "OK Computer without all that freaking electronic-shit" ;)[/quote']

to be honest i think OK Computer was a big step forwards and maybe making Kid A was even bigger step to immortality ;)

actually they used all that electronic stuff very very smartly, but i stand if you don't like it.

that time was a big change for them, their music changed completely (70-80%)

Radiohead blow me away totally in a way that Coldplay never could, not that Coldplay aren't good. It's Thom Yorke's lyrics, he's so brutally yet beautifully honest and mysterious. Then add the music. Just WOWEE

Ok...I would say you are right there....this could be a reason!

But I never said the songs are meaningless! Not at all!

For me they just don#t have such a meaning at the moment as Radiohead:wink:

and Charlie.....yes...i think the same at the moment!

this is why selective bolding is bad for the population.

ok, well... I read a lot but I'm not going to read the whole thread however I did read the first few posts between you and nik. I definitely agree with nik. I think a good word to describe radiohead's music IS sexy... as odd as that is... when I'm alone I want more radiohead because they are a band that's more about deep thought... also they are funner to jam in le car.

I have to disagree with you about the large venues... obviously this year radiohead is heading up bonaroo and that will be HUGE. I don't believe coldplay has ever done something like that... ? but coldplay does sell more tickets on tour... however that's because they're played on the radio. We stereotype bands as being more friendly than radiohead, but I believe if radiohead was played on the radio more they would sell out some pretty big concerts just like coldplay. Of course the fans probably wouldn't be the same as the babies who populate venues these days.

but there's also a mood for coldplay and that is the "I am really happy as poo right now" mood for me and sometimes I like coldplay more... sometimes I like the dave matthews band more... sometimes I like muse more... sometimes I like radiohead more... It's not so much who you are as the mood you're in (at least for me)
