Guitar Music Outsells Pop in UK

Featured Replies

Data from record sales in the UK shows that in 2005 "guitar music" outsold "pop" by 11% (36% vs 25%) according to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). Story. Of course, how the two genres are defined and differentiated has to be somewhat subjective. The story making the claim points to groups like Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs, and The Killers as representative of "guitar music".

Oh the irony! That's hillarious. :laugh4:

This news doesn't come as much of a suprise to me. Just look at the whole 'Smash Hits' magazine thing for example...pop music just doesn't sell like it used to. I guess Rock//soft rock//alternative etc music is becoming more mainstream and pop is left behind, especially over the last year or two.

We should all take great stock from this poll
