Why the Heart?

Featured Replies

Why is it that the Heart represents feelings of love?

Its pretty much just a pumping organ like anything else.

Is it because it fuels the body? Like love? Or we feel it beating hard at emotional moments? But love heartbeating is pretty much the same as getting-mugged heartbeat

I definately wont deny theres a strong wrenching feeling behind my left breast everytime something goes wrong though. Strange.

Yes I know what you mean,I also get that a lot these days!!

It's like a feeling of,well it is hard to explain really.

I dont understand the humorous side of it! But ok hehe.

I'm not getting the feeling lately, but I'll never forget it.

my friend says the half side of this  is the real pic of our own heart in our body so when two person is 'together', there are two hearts mix so it goes like this

sorry im not that good in english.

Well, actually, it's really weird, cos when you're in love you feel weird in your stomach, like birds there, but heart....has nothing to do ith it.

Besides, the heart as human's organ and the heart which we draw when we want to say that we love somebody....They look different.

Historically speaking, the ancient world did believe that the heart served the functions that we now associate with the brain, both thinking and feeling.

I would have to double check this, but if I remember right, it wasn't until doctors started doing some rather cruel surgeries on convicted criminals, such as cutting the victim's heart out and asking them questions before they died that it was proved that the heart was not actually the centre of thought. Or I might be perpetuating an old wives' tale... it been awhile.

the heart....hmm.....i dunno....i was also wondering...and i was also thinking why they draw it the way they draw it? it looks tooo different. The heart is just an organ that pumps blood to the body....i dont know why they use it as a sign of love

'Cause God said so. It's in the Bible somewhere...near the back.

Good question I can'r really answer....but I think, like Henry said, that it has something to do with the bible....could be true...

I've heard it's somehow related to the leaves of certain plants. I guess the greeks (or was it the egypts? romans? dunno... some folk in that time) used the leaf of ivy or fig-trees as a symbol for the everlasting love on vases and other stuff. Those leaves kinda look like the heart-symbol we know today. - So it obviously is no christian shit ;)

But I've no clue about how it got connected to our central pumpin' organ...

Some interesting interpretations here.

The bible, how did I forget about that?

i always thought that the heart has something to do with the life...lol i mean if your heart stops - you die. i think if i say "i give you my heart" it means i sacrifice my life for you. what explains a lot

Hehe....well I'm a bit bored and I looked it up on the net...but unfortunately it is in gemran....but I can say that it is a mixture between what Felix (winnie) said and what Henry (Powerslave) said....

the idea of the heart symbol for love was also supported by the heart and Christ culture..... I don't know how to express it...

haha, I was joking, but maybe there's actually some truth to what I said after all.. : p

It's like no heart no blood pumpin', no life.

So no love(heart) no life.

My friends and I had this conversation last week, we deduced that technically the penis should be the symbol of love.
