What if Tim Rice-Oxley was a Coldplay member?

Featured Replies

Tim Rice-Oxley - songwriter, pianist in the band "Keane"

we know that they were/are friends with Chris Martin and Chris asked Tim to join Coldplay back in '90s...Tim rejected it because he already had a band. but what if he would accept Chris' offer? how Coldplay would look like today? maybe with 5 members? would they sound more like "Keane"? or maybe another style?

i have to say that Tim is a genius. his lyrics are wonderful, creativity as well.

my verdict: we would hear different but brilliant songs, maybe even better that Coldplay have done so far

anyway, it's only a thought, but this story really makes me think what Coldplay would be now...

mmm im sure that the lyrics would be brilliant

Well.. I guess that they'd sound completely different and maybe it would have been a problem of two such fantastic songwriters in one band, you know.. It's Tim who writes the songs for Keane and it's Chris who writes the songs for Coldplay, so.. might have been a problem, don't know..

But it's a funny thought - I have no idea how it could be if Tim would be part of Coldplay..

Eh...I don't know. If Tim was in the band, who would play the piano? I like Chris on piano. And would Tim write ALL the songs (like he does for Keane)?

I don't really like the idea of Coldplay being different though, because then they wouldn't be the same Coldplay I love right now. I think things are better the way they are now.

This forum would have one thread more....

The "thread for hyper mega sexy Mr Tim Rice-Oxley"

btw....does he have anything to do with the Musical guy Tim Rice?

what a great question. i have wondered myself what would be the sound of coldplay if tim rice-oxley was in the band. im guessing it would be slightly different, however, it wouldnt be so much of a difference. im guessing that lyrically they would be different, and perhaps more musically experimental.

^lol i like your siggy Sienna

Is the HARDEST PART having to watch the video, or to stop watching it??

about the thread topic, its so strange to think about for me thats its incomprehensible

chris martin's songwriting ability>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>tim rice-oxley's songwriting ability

chris martin would write the songs... coldplay would play them... and tim rice oxley would stand by and worship them as gods... thats my prediction

well Chris' song writing isn't that good at all in the last time. i think they are at the same level with Tim

Correction : Tim Rice-Oxley - Songwriter, Pianist, Bassist, Backing Vocal in the Band "Keane" ;) so he is also A Bass Player! --> keane_alexlake_02.jpg

Yes, Chris Martin is a great song writer...I actually knew Coldplay before I knew Keane, I liked Clocks alot, however I am a massive Keane Fan Now!:)

Anyway, I do believe that Tim is genius, his Passionate Lyrics, and a Great Piano player...!I really adore all the song that he Wrote!

I think that it would have been hard for them to Continue together...2 Bosses & 2 bass players in 1 band haha!

but if they've managed to continue, i think that it would have been maybe both, havin coldplay and keane sound, OR maybe something completely Different!

I love this Man^^"TIM"

between chris's song writing abilities is not higher than Tim's!!!!!!!!!!! I am sorry, I also remember that they used to lye in the ground together, and think how they can improve their song writing "Chris & Tim"!

Ondes Martenot wrote

I am sorry, the guy wrote, Chris Martin wanted Tim to join Coldplay, cause he knows very well that Tim is a Genius!!!!!

You are very wrong :P

It's kind of pointless to sit here and argue about who the best songwriter is. They both write different songs. You can't say that Chris is better or Tim is better because there is no way to objectively judge. It's just a matter of taste and basically whether you like Coldplay or Keane better.

On this board, most people will say Chris is a better songwriter. On a Keane website, most will side with Tim.

thats true..but i think that the question of this thread is...how d be coldplay if tim accepted it...!!not who is better!

you are right about that!

well... it is a tough comparison to make. for this reason: i think coldplay is a much more talented, complete and altogether superior band than keane just from listening to hopes and fears and say parachutes (closest in style). that may not mean chris is a better song writer... maybe tim in a band like coldplay or in the band itself would prove better. but no one can say. i still think chris>tim ;)

Erm, to be honest with you, I don't like Tim's lyrics THAT much.. Maybe it's also Tom's voice but most of them sound a bit too cheesy for me.. Although I love "Walnut Tree", that's a fantastic song!

All in all I think that Tim simply writes more "pop" melodies and lyrics and Chris' style is totally different, so who knows what would have become of the lyrics if they both would work together. It would be a nice idea of Chris and Tim working together in the future, wouldn't it? They could write a song together, I'd be curious to see what would come out!
