Eclipse

Have you ever seen one?

I think I've only seen just the one, in Toronto, Canada, when I was like 7 or something. It was a a total eclipse, not one of those shatty quarter ones which are fairly common to see. And it lasted like, all day.

It was PITCH dark for like 20mins or something, like, darker then night, really freaky shit, and then for the rest of the day it was like on/off kinda dark, like the gods were flicking a lightswitch. It never went back to being pitch dark though.

20 minutes? holy... i've never experienced an eclipseeee. boy i'd like to see one.

or maybe if i just smoke weed all day i'll be experiencing eclipses all the time :pimp2:

Sounds like a plan!

Uh, really, it does :anxious:

yes, i have, but only a part of it. It was between years 1997-2000 (not quite sure exactly when), and it occured on the area of slovenian and hungarian border. and i was on holidays on the other side of the country. :/

:P apart from the weed induced eclipses, i'd love to see a real one, one day.

how often do they occur?

any idea?

Saw one in 1999 but it was pretty crap....didnt go dark at all...could only see it through some strange glasses. I heard the best place to see eclipses is on planes.

that would be trippy :wideeyed:

would love to experience that

in my lifetime (not whole, the last 10 yeasr lets say) there have happened 2 total solar eclipses (99-06) and one(?) lunar eclipse (the moon) in Turkey but it changes from place to place..

I don't even really know what it is,...

I feel embarrassed...

eclipse occurs when moon gets between the sun and the earth. because the moon is closer to the sun, it covers it (although the sun is bigger) and because of that sun rays can't some to the earth - consequence: darkness.

but that ring of light that it's visible is not the same everythime. that depends on how the moon is close to the earth. the closer it is, less ring is seen. and vice versa; if the moon is further away from the earth and closer to the sun, more sun is visible.;)

here's a pic of it:

Ah ok..i thought about that...

I saw one in 1999 I think.....

pretty cool.......it looked like dawn although it was a summer day...

no, I haven't seen a total one either but despite of this, last year theoretically we were able to see a partial solar eclipse (about 80%)! Unfortunately, I had bad luck 'cos in those moments I was in a classroom watching a damn video about laboratory materials and precisely, it didn't have ANY windows so I missed it... I remember that everyone kept saying it was so odd, that they had a strange feeling when become dark, and all the newspaper had beautiful pics of it... but I wasn't able to see it, though. :disappointed:

A few years ago... Wasn't a big deal for me to be honest...

I think I saw the same one you did, Reilly. Though it wasn't completly total here- there was a tiny little silver of sun still showing at the height.

I was in 6th grade and the teacher decided to turn it into a whole science project. We made pinhole projectors and went out into the parkinglot to watch it with them. They never stopped lecturing us the entire time not to look up at the sun or we could hurt our eyes.

I was walking home from school right when it was at the darkest. It was like dusk- just before the sun sets. It got chilly and a wind came up. All the birds were making a racket because they were confused and getting ready to go to bed.

I glanced up at the sun a couple of times in spite of the warnings- it was a weird sight. I wasn't dumb enough to really look at it, though. I heard on the news the next day that there had been one or two dimwits who had stared at it, and burned their retinas completly. Stupid people- gotta love them.

Weird day, for sure. :sunny:

A total eclipse?NEVER......just partial ones..................
