This denotation goes back to the rainbow as a symbol of biblical promise, and the use of all the colours of the rainbow symbolises all flags in one. There are several, unrelated rainbow flags in use today, with the flag of the Rainbow family being an obvious example. The most widely known is perhaps the flag representing gay pride.
