In their native Denmark, Mew are as big as Coldplay. Which is marvellous. For them.

They like boozing and birding (probably), however we’re keen on them because they’re one of those bands that make a absolute racket, of the sort that makes your insides feel good...

They’ve recently been playing with REM, though we shouldn’t hold that against them, and taking their girlfriends on holiday (Monaco is lovely despite it being a Gucci graveyard).

I’m always scared by horses. They’re huge and terrifying.

Chocolate or cheese?

Always chocolate. I’ve never eaten cheese in my life. It’s utterly revolting. I hate it so much I can’t say. All kids hate cheese, then people start going over to the dark side! But all of us in the band hate cheese. I really respect grown up people who hate cheese. I’ve been to bed hungry a lot of times on tour because all there is to eat is cheese. I would never fall that low.

 

When did you last wish you were the opposite sex?

Every time I shag a girl I think, ‘I’m fucking good!’ I have sailed on the seven seas of the world and I’ve had praise and worship for my skills. I work with rhythm – I’m all about vibrations. I’m a bed-work sensation. I do have a small penis though. I know people with great length and 50% of the time they get turned down.
