Maybe that part: "Chemistry class/Try to do our part" means they have something important to work on and they need to be in it together, have good chemistry to get through it? I'm a regular user here but this is my first time to write a message.

 

First of all, hello to all frengers! Though I'm not a big fan of Coldplay but I enjoy reading this world music section - where we can discuss variety of music - no matter they are pop or pretentious non-pop! :laugh3:

 

Just my 2 cents - I read some discussion regarding the leak from their official forum. I've found that it's kinda funny - well, it's not really a huge surprise it would be leaked eventually (but I agree it's too early to be leaked). It happens to every artist! I just don't understand why some people are making a big fuss of it??? I mean, it's kinda BS to judge other people and label them as "immoral" because of downloading this album in advance????!!! Come on, you moral majority, don't tell me that you have never downloaded any leaked albums before! :laugh3: I suppose if artists make good albums, the real music lovers know what to do!

 

Anywayz, back to Mew, I listened to this album twice. Maybe I have such a high anticipation after hearing their EP, so the album is rather disappointing me. I can't say I do not like it, and maybe I need time to digest, but it doesn't really give me that "wow" feeling just like the time when I first listened to the "Kites" and "Frengers" - it just can't grow on me immediately. The backward sounds of "New Terrain" kinda distracting; "Beach" and "Repeaterbeater" both can be the mega hits; all of the tracks after "A Dream" are kinda Fiery-Furnaces-or-Unicorns-sound-alike (sound like 2-3 songs combined into 1 big song). The opening of "Silas the magic car" reminds me of "Eight flew over". Kind of weird that Bo played like Franz Ferdinand in the "Vaccine" track (I mean that dancy post punk guitar riff?!), but I like it!! :D

 

Overall, the album is kinda like the poppy sounds from "a triumph for man" and "half of the world" with bigger sound. For me, many of the songs don't stick into my head immediately, probably due to their complexity. BUT, Repeaterbeater, Hawaii, Vaccine are the killer tracks!

 

The above is just my first impression, maybe I'll feel different later!

Hey Simorphor.! I don't listen a lot to Franz Ferdinand or Unicorns, ect. But I agree with you about the initial feel for the album after first few listens. I think a lot of us have already said that we preferred Kites or Frengers to the new record. But as most poeple have said it's a grower. If you give it time, look into the lyrics, listen for the details you'll only appreciate the songs more.

 

The first listen compared to what must be my 10th now, I didn't care too much for a lot fo the individual songs. But now I have a ton of favorites from it and I enjoy them much more. :)

I'm sure the album'll grow on you - Mew songs tend to be growers in general I think. And I agree with you on nms sounding more like the older, poppier stuff. Plus I think lyrically Jonas has improved on Kites, the lyrics are less vague, simpler yet deeper if that makes sense.

 

Yeah, I don't see the point in the moral high ground..I've d/loaded plenty of stuff that I've paid for later. Why couldn't we try before we buy..? ;)

Hehe, that's not a stupid question!! It is a good questions cause I became a fan of Mew at that night! I knew nothing about the Mew before and I wasn't a huge fan of Kasabian (I liked some songs though). Probably the praise and hype of Mew from Pitchfork (silly me!) urged me to go! I remember that I was standing on the first row, and I was thrilled by their visuals and music. That night was magical! Oh yeah, I remember some Danish girls screaming and dancing!!! And then Kasbian came in, compared to Mew, their live sucked, period. :laugh3::laugh3:

 

Actually I went to Denmark this year for travelling (and going to Franz Ferdinand concert!!), kinda silly and I had this fan girl moment. I went to a Danish food restaurant and tried that Champagne Brus that were highly recommended by Jonas.... :rolleyes: but I did not bump into them in the city lol!!!

 

btw, I like Bo but errm... I don't know why I have so many pictures of Jonas though from that tour... :thinking:
