We can't really talk about the album at Mewsite, but my favourite song is 'New Terrain', a lot of you have liked 'Vaccine' which didn't open to me in a long time. Yes, I think you guys know that I've had this for a while. 'Sometimes' was better after I saw it live. 'Silas' is a gem. Like Mew always are, there are no absolute favourites, no bad songs, lots of space for discussions. Only thing that is certain and everyone will agree here - the first intermezzo is the worst track on the album ;)

 

Overall, I think this album is not as good as Kites, but on the same level with Frengers. Very different album with two songs ('Repeaterbeater' and 'Beach') that could and should become hit songs and boost the album sales.

 

The video for 'IPP' should be on its way, unless this leak caused a problem there. I know already that it has affected the marketing budget - good or bad, I do not know. I spoke with Sony and they are really PISSED. They had worked for so hard and now their hands are full trying to cover this leak.

 

Personally, I would appreciate it if you just talked about the album here and not on every other forum. The damage is already done, but there might be people who have not even intended to buy the album - the less people know, the better. Americans (no offence) seem to be pretty blind and def to everything. Like if they announce a show in Chicago, the following day people ask them to come to Chicago. They don't bother reading - this is a good thing now. Here.

Albums leak all the time. Sorry to say it, but this really was inevitable. Quite an early leak, though.

 

I think I prefer this to Kites. It has a better flow to it. Kites was this:

 

• Twelve songs that flow into each other, an extended suite if you will
  

 

• Two songs that, besides being left on their own (no segues), are both slow songs. Serious fucking downer to end an album on.
  

No More Stories is better. Relatively less complicated, and their most accessible album yet. :)

Yeah albums leak all the time...but a lot of people still buy them...getting the leak's not gonna stop most of us here paying for it. Personally, I want the blooming cd in my grubby little hands now, so I can admire it..;)

 

I haven't managed a proper listen all the way thru yet, but on first impressions, I think I prefer it to Kites too..altho' it's not gonna beat Frengers for me. But this has to be the most beautifully rich album they've made - it's just stunningly beautiful..so many layers..diverse yet simple.

 

My absolute, runaway favourite is Sometimes Life Isn't Easy..in fact I have a sneaky feeling it may just become my new fav song ever.fullstop. (Better than Yes even...& I bloody love that song)

 

It's just so gorgeous..the handclaps..the way it changes all the way thru (it sounds like two or 3 songs melded together)..the vocals are gorgeous, the choir and the old woman whose name escapes me...just sound incredible. It's so upbeat musically, yet the lyrics seems a little darker...plus I'm going thru some crap at the moment and the lyrics suited my mood perfectly today...(Hold my arms back/When they beat me/Leave me in ditch/When they kicked me/Sever my limbs and deceive me)

 

I find it nicely ironic that this is the song with Bo's crazy dancing, when it has lyrics like that.

 

Other highlights for me are Hawaii and Vaccine...and I think Reprise deserves a mention (the lyrics in that almost made me cry today..cos I'm such a saddo :))

And I agree about the first intermezzo. The album had a good start, I wish it had builded but it stops there and then starts again. But I love this record already. :)

I dunno ..I find it hard to rate one album higher than any other but it's definately poppier and more mainstream than Kites which is a good thing imo..

 

..I love all the percussion that they promised us..the handclaps and the crazy drumming..there's someone at mewsite making comparisions with Viva La Vida (yeah, brave I know ;)) - because it's so piano heavy, but I hear similarities in the percussion rather than the piano. The drumming was rockier on Kites, more intense. On nms it's quirkier I think, more layered.

 

But you can definately hear that Mew have pushed themselves to new heights on this record, tried new things and experimented, just like CP did with Viva, and it works. :thumbsup:

It's indeed VERY brave to compare anythign Mew to Coldplay on mewsite. I'm surprised they haven't been shunned for life by now. :stunned:

 

I can't really compare the three albums. They each have their own unique sound. Maybe I prefer Kites or Frenger ebcause I've gotten used to them. I'm sure in a few years when Mew releases something even more experimental I'll like it a lot better. It may even become one of my favorite albums in the world. I know that it's a real grower and over time I'll come to appreciate sooo much more than I already do now. I am really looking forward to it. :)

Yeah, a few tracks are already growing on me, when on first listen I thought they weren't that special...like Tricks for example. Cartoons is kind of a grower too, altho' I'm still not entirely convinced by that track.

 

But then I suddenly realised how brilliant Small Ambulance was the other week...I had listened to it loads of times without fully listening and appreciating it..so sometimes those kind of background, filler tracks suddenly jump out and hit you.

 

Are there any lyrics figured out anywhere yet..? I'm too lazy to go searching.. :(
