McDonald's forced to shut from lack of patronage in healthy town

mcdonaldsAP190906_228x270.jpgWe're not loving it: the McDonald's in Tavistock is being forced to shut for lack of business in a town characterised by its healthy, quality food

McDonald's is closing its outlet in a town known for quality food and healthy, local produce.

The fast food chain in Tavistock, Devon, simply wasn't being used enough by locals.

So after seven years struggling to make ends meet in a town that has won many accolades for the quality of its food, McDonald's will finally shut up shop on Saturday.

John Taylor, chairman of Tavistock EatWise campaign, said: "Because of the quality of our local food McDonald's has not been able to compete."

Earlier this year Tavistock won the title of Best Food Town in the South West.

Mr Taylor said: "I think McDonald's really started to suffer about 18 months ago when healthy school meals were introduced.

"Children no longer needed to go there because they were being fed properly."

A McDonald's spokesman said: "As part of an ongoing review of our restaurant sites, it has become clear that the location of McDonald's in Tavistock is no longer suitable."

i was bound to happen. there are a lot more healthier alternatives nowadays, and maccas have had a lot of damaging publicity in the past 2 years that have put loads of people off.

 Let's hope the whole chain shuts down!!

^ agreed, let's hope but it will ever happen sadly lol

I have a friend in town who's trying to get a healty but affordable restoraunt off the ground. His dream is to one day put McDoom's out of business by offering good food at a competative price...it's a long-shot, but this will make him VERY happy!!:D

So you can always go down to your local rubber/plastic seller and get your breakfast from there!! :nice:

Aha! But maybe the chavs have built up some kind of immunity, as rats do with poison!!

Maybe cheap "gold" chains carries the antidote. :laugh3:

Yeah I'd stay there!!!

If McDoom's 'food' had killed that Russian guy in England, they'd have checked the airplanes for bad food not radioactive materials...I know airplane food is bad, but even airplane food isn't as bad as McD's!!!

Thumbs up for this people... to make a difference.

I don't think McDonal's bit the dust... they still gain millions and millions selling crap to people over the world, good tasting crap for sure, still crap... I go there very once in a while. The problems come when silly people think it's a daily restaurant or someting... or that its hamburgers are a good substitute for a good lunch everyday.
