The Toronto Show Reviews - Let's Hear 'Em! [11 June 2003]

Featured Replies

wow guys. that was something else last night. i wish it had never ended. i really like the venue. it was so small, any seat was a good seat!

coldplay fans are definitely a different crowd for me. i'm use to crazy girls and parents escoting them (lol. oh boyband). when the show started and i went nuts, i realized i was the only one moving around at all. it was weird. i know coldplay really isn't a moving and shaking crowd, but i would have thought i would have seen more people at least bopping their heads. :?

two minutes before coldplay took the stage these two huge guys sat in the seats in front of me in my friend. we're not exactly the talest people so we were struggling to see. lol. then they started to smoke which really pissed me off. then the guy next to my friend started to smoke. he also kept moving over pushing into her. i was getting really angry because i couldn't concentrate on the show since my friend was not having fun. i went up to one of the security people and explained that my friend and i can't see and people around us are smoking. she was so nice. she moved us from row h 302 to row c 202! i was like "THANK YOU!!!"

so then i could finally enjoy the music. i loved it. every last note. it seemed to go by in minutes. amsterdam was definitely an unexpected surprise. that's my friends favourite song and we were both pretty sure that it wasn't going to be played, so you can imagine our eyes when it came on. my favourite was daylight. i love that song live. hell it was all good.

chris is adorable. i'm sure everyone who went enjoyed that lovely dancing he did! :D i kept hollaring for more will though. lol.

the past concerts i've been to have all had encours of one song. when coldplay had two encours of 5 songs in total. woah - that blew my mind.

fantastic. i'm so glad that i went. i took pictures, but my camera is shit, so we'll see what actually turned out.

can't wait to hear all the other reviews!

encours? wtf am i drinking today? sorry, i meant encores! (like ya'll didn't know that.)

Here will be my long detailed review because Laura requested long ones.

I got the Ontario Place with my friends at 5:00ish hoping that the park would be open but it was closed :( So we walked around and grabbed some food to eat. My two friends had lawn seats and I was sitting in 200s with Sean (he's from the other board). So I met up with Sean at 6:30 and we were just standing there talking in front of the gates when Tony Clement, our health minister walks by!

This man.

We proceeded to go to our seats and I was pleasantly surprised with how close they were. This was a much better improvement than my 28th row seats at the ACC last Septemeber. I was 17th row after the general admission area.

We waited for a bit then Eisley came on, and I liked them. My other friends thought they were annoying but I really liked them.

Then Ron Sexsmith came on and I didn't like him at all. Lots of people in the audience were really excited for him. And the last song he performed was Gold in Them Hills and I was hoping so badly that Chris would come on stage. I was thinking Ron Sexsmith is from Toronto so Chris HAS to come on, and HE DID. That was really cool.

Then I noticed that Molly and Cindy from the other board were sitting a few rows ahead of us so we chatted with them for a bit. Then Sean took me to meet Grace and Mel from the other board as well. It was lots of message board people in one night.

And sometime in the evening I bought a poster and a shirt, and now I see the shirt is too big but I'll try and shrink it.

The people sitting around us weren't so bad, I've had worse experiences with loud drunk people being rude and annoying but for this show it was good.

Then at 9:30 the boys came on stage with Politik and I started to get teary then. I was thinking oh god if I'm about to cry now and it's just Politik what am I going to do later on? I was really overwhelmed, I was so happy so see them again, and so happy that I could see well, and so happy that the people around me were real fans and really into it and just a million other things.

The boys were really into the show and the crowd was amazing and so into it and singing along. Coldplay seems to really love it when the crowd responds really well to them.

Chris was amusing as always. He said something about how they didn't cancel the show because of SARS, which I'm so glad they didn't. And Ozzy Osbourne had a show in Toronto last night at another venue and Chris made some joke about how we all thought we were going to Ozzfest but we ended up at the wrong place and now we are stuck with Coldplay  He was jumping around and doing his piano humping very well :D

One of the highlights was when they performed Moses. It was MUCH better than the mp3 that I have. They've changed some of the words and stuff and it was unbelievable. I hope somebody recorded the show that was in the audience for the songs that didn't air on the radio.'

Everything's Not Lost was another good moment because they got the audience to sing it and it was just magical.

They also performed Your World Turns Upside down which I had only heard a few times before the show so I wasn't so familiar with it but it was excellent.

When they came on with Yellow the crowd went wild. The lighting really adds to the show. Everyone in the audience was so happy and singing along and moving about.

Then The Scientist came on and I almost had a heart attack from trying to hold back my tears. This song doesn't usually make me so emotional but this evening it did. AND then he played one verse of What A Wonderful World. If I didn't have 15,000 people around me I would have been balling my eyes out.

Then they went off and came back for the first encore which was amazing because they played Amsterdam. Then they came on for a SECOND encore which I don't think they always do. He said that this is the last time they'll be playing in Canada for a few years so they'll play longer this evening.

After the first encore the boys were together hugging and that also brought tears to my eyes. I hope I'll be able to find a picture of that somewhere on the net.

Then they came on for the second encore doing a cover of Echo and The Bunnymen's Lips Like Sugar. To be honest I'm not so familiar with this song to begin with but it was very good. And then they did Life is For Living which made me SO happy because at some of the recent shows they haven't been playing it.

I'm very impressed if anyone's read all of this. I tried to call Vinita on her cell but it was off :(

Nadine and Sarah!! THANK YOU for your reviews!! The are awesome!! And Sarah, I did read ALL of yours! hahahah..

He was there to protect us all from getting SARS

i read all of it oh wow im sooo happy for you...man i wish i could meet some board members...thatd be nerve racking for me though anyhoo great review glad you had a blast!

Hi!

I usually just read messages, I hardly ever post, but I just had to this time :D

I had 305 section seats, on the very far left but Coldplay wasn't too small from were we were, tho Guy was blocked by the speakers. It was my first concert (pretty sad considering I'm 19, I know), and I am just so happy it was Coldplay. I've only been a fan since last December, when I bought "Maybe THis Christmas" and I heard the amazing version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Chrstmas" so I decided to get their CDs and been hooked since. Then I saw a broadcast of Glastonbury, when the entire crowd sang Yellow and I've been wanting to go see them live ever since and lined up for hours to get tickets to last nites show.

Well, anyway, the show was just awesome tho I think I was the only one in our section the was bursting with excitement. I didn't think it was possible for me to like them even more, but after last nite, wow. I woke up this morning and started blasting their songs, I can't get enuf.

Every song was amazing, and I thought it was so cute when during Trouble, Chris's voice cracked, everyone was just like "awww." His um, "attempt" to dance was really cute too. I think it's hilarious when he goes crazy on the piano, lol. That comment about the Ozzy concert I thought was funny, cos I wanted to go to that one too (Finger Eleven was opening!!) And also when he changed the words around for Everything's Not Lost (I think...) about the whole SARS thing. I LOVED it when they played What A Wonderful World, I usu. don't like it when ppl mess around with that song, but Coldplay's amazing. It was so cool seeing all those ppl, everyone was there, even ppl that I would never have guessed would like Coldplay.

The highlight was A Rush of Blood to the Head (my fav song by them) and Yellow for me, it's probably the main reason I went to see them. I wanted to be there when the whole crowd sings Yellow all together and well, it was amazing. ANother thing I loved was when Chris came out to sing Gold in Them Hills with Ron Sexsmith in the beginning. I didn't want to leave, I don't think anybody wanted to anyway. I slept in the Coldplay shirt I bought, lol, I know I'm a loser. I'm definitely going again when they come back.

Anyway, sorry this was long. Nobody I know likes them as much as I do, so they weren't as excited as me about this whole thing. It's just that listening to COldplay makes me happy. I know how sappy that sounds but that's all I can think of.

Thanks for reading, lol.

I think so, he seemed a little excited I guess. He was by far the oldest person in the audience. I guess he has connections to get him good seats.

hahahaha..yeah, my cousin said that if you have any notoriety whatsoever, you've got a seat. And if you don't claim them on the day of the concert, it's released to the public. hahaha
