I want to know what people think about a baby who will be mentally handicap. I want to know if they think it will be ok to abort that baby. If the baby is going to live a bad/painful life for sure then I think it should be ok to abort.. but what if it's just going to be a burden, yet still be smart?

There's no real solid foundation for my belief, but it is what it is. I think a baby is real when it either has a conscience or two people have agreed to have sex which causes a healthy egg to meet a healthy sperm. If two people agree to have sex, once the egg and sperm meet in my opinion it's as good as real and shouldn't be aborted for any reason, even if they didn't want a baby. However, If a girl did not agree to have sex, she did not agree to have the baby, so BEFORE it has a conscience (i.e. it has brain function) of any sort as an animal or a human spirit it should be aborted if the mother so decides and never agreed to have sex. And if she does agree for it to be born there is no reason she should be obligated to take care of it if she doesn't want to.

 

Half of that belief is based on biblical reasons and half of that is based on the fact that I wouldn't want a girl to get raped and have some terrible duty the rest of her life which she never agreed to.

No woman should be forced to go through a pregnancy if she doesn't want to.

but what if she wants to have sex and doesn't want to get pregnant, but she has sex anyway? The only reason I think it's wrong to abort in that case is for biblical reasons, but if someone doesn't believe in the bible I suppose it shouldn't matter.

that's a good point... that would be a bad pain for the child and the parents... it's a really delicate situation... but how soon can doctors find that too? I mean... probably they only find out one or two months before the child's birth...

I dont think its just the biblic reason. I'm a total agnostic and used to be 100% pro abortion. Then in biology class we had theses foetuses in glasses and when I got the glass in my hands I started feeling really sick because for the first time I realized how humane they already are at this time.

I'm still in favour of abortion, I'm just not sure whether I could do it.

ok, i didn't want to discuss the possible reasons behind it, cos it would be off-topic.. but i think, you may have a point there :)

i'm a bit undecided to be honest. somehow i dont think abortion should be forbidden by law. but i personally could never do it, i dont think i could live with it, i'd feel feel guilty. however, i dont wanna judge people who see this differently. i know there can be reasons why you would do it, i'm not sure if i could keep the child if i was raped either.
