what are you specifically looking for

what are you specifically looking for

Well... verbs and their tenses are probably what I need help with the most, seeing as I knew around 500. And that's probably something I just need to sit down and do one day. But I do have one question...what is the difference between...

Hay que + infinitive

and

Tener que + infinitive

I never really understood the difference from the classes I took.

Is it because there is no subject for hay que?

FUCK!!!!

I have a term paper due tomorrow on the Merchant of Venice and I never read the play. I don't know what the fuck I'm going to do.:bigcry:

Will someone whos read it BS a summary for me and I will wing it from there?

pweese

Ok, Any french students here?

My friend asked me when do we use lui and leur and I told her when you want to replace the subject in the sentence. Is that right?

Can someone give me an example?

moi moi! :D I have french final exam tomorrow, so ...

i think you told your friend correctly, but lui and leur are used when there's a verb that needs à behind. (me, te, lui, nous, vous, leur)

Je donne mon numéro à elle. - > Je lui donne mon numéro.

if à doesn't have to be behind a verb, then you use les pronoms réguliers (I believe they're called like this, correct me if I'm wrong). (me, te, le, la, nous, vous, les)

J'embrace mon ami. - > Je l'embrace.

I give him my telephone number = je lui donne mon numéro de téléphone

I give them my telephone number = je leur donne mon numéro de téléphone

Eglantine : j'embrasse mon ami ; je l'embrasse. It's correct, after "les pronoms personnels" there is no verb but a name. I give my friend a gift = je lui donne un cadeau ("lui" replaces "my friend").

If you need any information, i'll be delighted to help you.:)

thanks! :nice: And now I won't forget how to write this verb. =)

You're welcome ! Travailleur.gif Now, a small exercice to improve your French. Open this link and listen to it! ah ah !

wheeeeeee! merci!

wait... a guy looks just like the drummer of a very popular Slovene rock band!!!! *drools* :laugh3:

and they even sang "Je suis métisse" or something like that!

I just came home from school... and the listening part was awful. The first exercice was ok, but I didn't know what exactly to write in the second part, so I made up some answers. :uhoh: and translated John Locke's (from Lost, not the philosopher) words for the conclusion of an essay. *shrugs*

Sorry to hear that. It seems you need to improve the French language by working harder. I know my language is difficult for foreigners, I admit it. In the long run and also if you travel to France on vacation, you'll have the opportunity to speak. You also have English/American movies subtitled in French, it helps a lot to understand.

yeah, I do. We all do actually, because everyone said it was difficult. Yeah, going on vacation in France is a possibility, I hope I'll go there for half a year some time in next 2 years.

I do watch movies in French, but without subtitles. I do understand what they speak, but only if the speak slightly slower than usual.

By practising regularly, you'll improve it. It was the same for me with English. By means of listening to CNN everyday, my English is fluent. I've worked on it and keep on doing it. YOu can also read French comics. It would be fun too "Tintin et Milou" and others. Be careful because most of them are in slang and you would be tired of reading it because it would be hard for you to read them. (not "Tintin" though).
