Blackle

Featured Replies

Some of you probably use it already or just new to it like me who just heard of it from my sister.

This new search engine by Google helps save power by having a black background instead of the original white one. Blackle gets the same search results as Google. What's cool about using this search engine is that it has a counter underneath where they measure the Watts saved by switching to black.

Anyway, thought it was something some might find interesting. The only real downsite is it doesn't have the usual pic or video search tabs, but you can still use it for everything else.

Seriously? I'll have to check it out.

yeah, certainly give it a go. it takes some adjusting but it's not that different

Can someone please care to explain why lighting up a pixel in black saves more energy than lighting said same pixel in white?

Or green...

I thought monitors used more power displaying white...i dunno...

I think it depends on your monitor type.

And seeing as my monitor is a "Class A Energy Star" monitor, it doesn't use a lot of energy.

I was introduced to this in school, when were learning about Ecology. Quite interesting. :D

no worries Soufiane :)

i've only started using it for like a couple weeks now ^ some much longer lol but i'm glad others are giving it a look.

  • 2 weeks later...

I really like Blackle, its easier on the eyes (as is this forum). I like the idea of it. There should be more interwebby environmentally savvy things around - or maybe I haven't found them.
