I did my piano exam today (not that you care)

Featured Replies

In Australia, you can do an Piano exam under the AMEB (Australian Music Education Board), there are 8 levels, I just did my fourth level today!

I'm happy, cus I've been studying for it for about 4months!!It was fun, I got to play some pieces, play some scales etc. But listen to (or read) this; I played a piece called Cat and mouse on the piano keys, a piece that depicts what it would sound like if a cat was chasing a mouse on a piano. The lady examining me (you go into a room, there is one person and they listen to you play) told me a story about her burmese cat that decided to go kill a possum and bring it to her front door.

So here I am, sitting at a beautiful old grand piano, very nervous, heart thumping, praying to get out of there and get a good mark, and some 5foot 2" lady telling that her cat killed a possum.

YAY!!! It's over, no more stressful piano for a long time!

I know what you're talking about.. I play the cello and i've done 3 of that kind of tests. I guess the system is a bit different in finland than over there 'cause there are like 3 tests and I did the last one in february. So now i've finished the "primary level" Still long way to go though haha.

But damn it's always so nerve wrecking. But it's a great feeling to get it done :nice:

Piano.. wow... congrats :D .. I'd love to learn to play piano someday...

do you play any coldplay song?

God put a Smile and Daylight took me a while to learn, um...I had this version of Talk a long time ago and now I can't find it but I never finished learning it cus it was pretty complex!

why don't you have any coldplay song there?

Congrats on the level up!! I can empathize too. I used to do the same sort of thing as well back in the day when I took piano lessons. Completely shot my nerves every time! I distinctly remember the overbearing judges, the tiny room and the uncontroable shake in my right leg (yes, my pedal leg :(). My least favorite part of the exam was at the end when the judge gave me a piece (I'd never seen before) to sightread. Ohgod. Hated that.

Edit: And happy birthday, a day early. :nice:

Thanks Lore,

I usually do about one music exam each year, but this was my first piano exam, all the others have been on a strings, and I'm meant to study for at least 6months, but for various reasons, I had only 3 months !!

Hope to do my 5th grade next year so I can join chamber music!

wow that's sounds really interesting.. hope you'll do it great at all of those music exams. I really admire people who is talented at music...

Oh my god, sight reading..the worst thing ever..

I usually don't make any huge mistakes but still that's the thing that gets me totally nervous haha.

I was given a rather simple piece but I suppose I just can think fast enough to keep it flowing. I don't think I hit any wrong notes, it just well...didn't flow...

Happy birthday :crown: :dance: ::chef::jester::joker::daisy:
