So will Bush nuke Iran?

Featured Replies

Mmm, the title of this thread is misleading then. Although whether nukes are used are not, makes little difference. There would still be pain, suffering and serious long term consequences. :(

Not if it had been left in The Lounge, where it started, it wouldn't be.;)

It was an open question, not a news story.:smug:

Judging by the responses, it looks like I was right about this being a discussion topic, after all....................... :smug:

Yes, a discussion topic from the daily mail, a NEWS source, about Bush, and Iran, and nukes, NEWS TOPICS. Something I'm happy to discuss in the NEWS SECTION.

In the lounge however, I would prefer not to discuss these things, because I go there to relax, and trigger words like Bush, nukes, and Iran make me tense up and sometimes even grind my teeth in subconscious frustration.

p.s. I hate the daily mail's writing style in general... there's something about the way they put things that makes the ADD kick in around the second or third paragraph... and for the record there are many papers with the opposite effect- I get sucked in.

Sorry, what?

Do you mean the fictional paper in the story? Because I never watched enough of the movie to know.

Or do you mean the newspaper place they shot the movie in? Because that was the Chronicle Herald's building, and it's the local paper here in Halifax. Yes, I do quite like that one if only because of familiarity; I read it every day.

And is it full of shipping news??

I read the title and I was like "What the hell does 'nuke' mean?"....don't bother telling me, I know now...

Still delirious :thinking::P

Two things...

Using nuclear weapons against Iran has been discussed in Washington DC, very much so.

It was said that using nukes 'cannot be taken off the table'.

And secondly, if anyone thinks George W Bush is really in control of this then you need to think again.

He's the guy who gets blamed when things go 'wrong'. (while others around him get away with murder)

He's the guy who doesn't exactly know what certain members of his administration are really up to.

He's the guy who is handed bits of paper - which he then obviously struggles to read.

He's the guy who appears to be so stupid that nobody believes he could organise anything properly. (when in reality it's not him creating the laws and setting policies which are raping the freedoms from Americans)

He's the puppet leader with the most plausible deniability.

Bush signs stuff....that's it.

^ Don't normally agree with you, but in this case, exactly.

Argh... every time any international conflict comes up the first thing certain Americains say is "They should just nuke them and get it over with". Seriously. I know a few people like that. They're really smart people normally, they just get really dumb when it comes to international conflict.

And waving your hands around yelling "Pandora's Box! Pandora's Box!" Doesn't work either. I've tried. *sigh* They don't get that if the US uses nukes, every other crackpot in the galaxy will feel justified using them as well. As if one wouldn't be bad enough.

And is it full of shipping news??
No. :P Not at all.

Bush urges Cameron to back attack on Iran

By SIMON WALTERS - More by this author » Last updated at 23:28pm on 24th November 2007 commentIconSm.gif Comments

George Bush will this week challenge David Cameron to support his threat to attack Iran over its nuclear weapons building programme.

In his first major test on the international stage, the Conservative leader, accompanied by Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague, is scheduled to meet the President for low-key talks in Washington during a two-day trip to the United States.

In a carefully choreographed programme, Mr Bush is expected to 'drop in' when Mr Cameron and Mr Hague meet White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley.

A US source said: 'Mr Bush sees Mr Cameron as a potential powerful ally if the stand-off between the US and Iran reaches a climax before he steps down as President. If there is a confrontation between America and Iran, Mr Bush will need British support as much as he did over Iraq.

Gordon Brown is not likely to offer the same level of support as Tony Blair did and that is where Mr Cameron could be a valuable ally.'

Mr Cameron has criticised Mr Bush over Iraq but has called for tough action against Iran, arguing that the rest of the world must show it 'means business' by imposing trade sanctions to stop it acquiring a nuclear bomb.

Tory MPs see the visit as a major coup for Mr Cameron, but the trip is not without its pitfalls. Both Mr Cameron and Mr Hague have criticised Mr Bush's administration. Mr Cameron has said Britain should drop its 'slavish' support for America's 'unrealistic and simplistic' foreign policy.

And Mr Hague caused greater offence by claiming the torture of Iraqis by US soldiers and the Guantanamo prison camp for terror suspects in Cuba had led to 'an erosion of moral authority and loss of goodwill towards America'.

Mr Hague also has a habit of mocking the President in his lucrative part-time career as an after-dinner speaker.

One of his favourite jokes recalls his first meeting with Mr Bush eight years ago when the President introduced Mr Hague's Welsh wife Ffion, mispronouncing her name as 'Effion'.

Mr Bush is involved in Israel-Palestine peace talks this week but sources say he intends to leave the summit to meet Mr Cameron.

All this even when there is no evidence they can show that would prove Iran is "building" nuclear weapons. And even if we were told they had them - could we trust our governments on that? Considering the mammoth lies we were told last time about Iraq being able to strike us within a 45 minute warning?

Sure, I don't really want Iran to have them - just like I don't want any other country to have them!

Countries like, UK, USA, Russia etc....some with thousands of Nukes themselves can hardly complain to another country about "the possibility" of getting just one single weapon.....

......and there isn't even any evidence to support that one weapons being made.

I don't think ANY country should be allowed nuclear weapons for gods sake!

That's more like a plan.

Also, the Nukes that my county or the US or that russia have are only to be used to kill other humans and to cause massive destruction to the earth.

So why do we have them? To defend against other countries who have them and might use them.....??

SO even if Iran are thinking about having a nuclear programme for their military - they would be joining.....
