:laugh3: I read the part where it says the Album title. It says TBC (to be confirmed) and I didn't realise what it meant for about half a minute and it was like "WTF? They're calling the New Album TBC?"

i really am about to scream after reading this. i feel like running around in circles, i'm that excited. GAHHHHHHH, must...have....RELEASE DATE.

 

i'm glad to read that the words "piano riff" were used at least twice in the article--so even if it's not an album heavy on piano, they haven't completely ditched them, either, which i was kind of worried about.

i'm also really glad to read that it's not going to be heavy on "hip-hop beats." i was kind of afraid that given chris's most recent collaborations and tendancies to comment on hip-hop and rap artist's work that the album would be too much over on that side of the musical spectrum rather than coldplay's usual style of "very hard soft rock."

and i'm also thrilled to hear that the album draws on their live shows and is centered around performance. i think this means that their next tour will be their best yet (because even though i LOVE seeing them live, lots of people are critical of their stage shows), and i hope they become more of a "live band" in the process of making a kick-ass album.

this article above all else (even most of what prospekt has said, strangely enough) has gotten me more excited and even more optimistic about LP4 than i ever have been. unfortunately it's also gotten me MORE ANXIOUS. :wideeyed:

THIS IS BS Brian Eno has them changing everything i mean i want more piano on it i dont want them changing it i mean think of trouble,clocks,or SOS great songs based on the piano ,this new album seems uncoldplay i love coldplay because of what they are they dont have to change so much IF ITS NOT BROKEN DONT FIX IT whats up with the hand clap crap it sounds too pop, for me this is looking bad:embarassed:

thanks for converting it into text Ian! Ness1776 I think you must realise that Coldplay are trying to push into new territories it doesnt mean that there wont be any piano on the album, I believe Brian Eno is a great producer and wont take away the style of music that Coldplay are.

But what I mean is that Coldplay have always had raw talent, and a good producer will only craft it, not damage it.

 

I'm as glad as everyone else that they're not losing the piano though. I understand them trying to resist their typical sound, with the press making fun of it and a million new bands copying it. But I'm a sucker for the piano.:D:kiss:

He's done a million albums, actually. Roxy Music, talking Heads, Bowie...the list is endless, and they're almost all classics.

I'd be so honoured if I was Chris. I'd love to work with Eno. I consider him an influence on my own production style. (Sadly, it doesn't show in what I've produced,lol, but I've certainly learned a few tricks from him.)

 

So, my favorite producer is producing my favorite band...now if they'd just have a song on the new X-Files movie soundtrack, it would be a personal hat-trick!:D:D:D

The thing that was so great about paraschutes was that those songs could be done live with ease. The fact that they're aiming for new songs that are tour-friendly is a good sign. It may not be as stripped down as Parachutes, but it will be very raw and REAL. Who knows? Maybe if they're so comfortable doing these songs live, they'll finally becaome a jam band,lol.

 

Sorry, I keep rambling on, it's just the excitement is getting to me.:D

I guess i didn't look at Parachutes that way up till now, but you are right, you are totally right!!! I think bands need to be tour friendly because although you can get a great almost perfect studio version of the song, you have to be able to perform the song correctly live. I guess its the reason why people always ramble on about how bad some bands are live.

In my opinion, if you're good live, you will do very very well. Take a look at Muse, they are amazing live and they are one of the most highly praised bands...Coldplay too, their live shows are unpredictable and Chris keeps the audience entertained.

Muse are great live, if the band performing puts a lot of energy in their performances you are in for a great performance, i guess its what you put into a performance, is what comes out

I'll give you a personal example. This should have its own thread,imo. For years, I wrote all my songs on a guitar or piano. Then for my album a couple of years ago, I built the songs in the studio, sometimes starting them with drums or bass, or basing them around a guitar hook instead of a regular rythm guitar track. When I was done, I had to literally teach myself how to play them live on a single instrument.

 

I know that's not exactly how it works with a 4 peice band, but the basic principle is there. If you start with 4 guys playing the songs (and in Chris's case, add the keyboard tracks that he programs for live shows), it's going to translate better into a live setting than if you do alot of multi-tracking that you have to re-work for the stage.

 

Again...I ramble,lol.

Yeah, I find, if there's one guy (or gal) making all the music, it doesn't work well live because it is all playback...like Moby...
